Part one

So....dark.

I opened my eyes to see only dark, moving my head from side to side to find even the smallest glimmer of light. But I only managed feel an intense pain in my head, akin that to a sensation of it about to explode. using my hands that I couldn’t even see to touch my head. Very...very carefully I followed the pain to where it seemed to originate from..,..There was a lump.

“That hurts...”

Even though I only put a little bit of pressure on it, my whole head felt the toll.

Where am I?... and From the looks of it....

I look up at the sky only to see a endless void filled with black darkness. It might have reminded someone of hell. Of course there were no fires.

Did i fall from up there? Then again it’s so dark here I may have just tripped over something and banged my head hard. Now that I think about it....how did I get here?

I tried to comb through my memories, but just like the black void around me....I found nothing.

To think I can’t even remember my name...this is looking pretty bad for me. With no memories, an injured head, and no sight....where should I even start? Well, the first step to anything is to get up.

I tried getting up, luckily neither of my legs were injured so it seemed I could walk just fine. Of course I would have to tread carefully as to not agitate my already excruciating head. This was how this journey of mine started.

*****

Step....step....step....

How long had I walked? I’m cold.....hungry.....thirsty.....scared. Im alone, there is no one to save me, no matter how much I wish for someone to take me out of here, no one came. My legs started shaking from all of the walking.

I need to rest.

Even though it was pitch black I dropped to my hands and knees shuffling around to find a comfortable spot. When successful I thought about all of my current choices.

The first thing I need to do is secure food and water....though, how could I do that? And even then I won’t be able to see anything. Plus....

I once again try to remember anything. Only to hurt my head.

“That hurts...”

In any case there is no way I can survive in this place without even gaining an understanding of my surroundings....I’ve rested long enough, I need to keep moving.

I Once again got up, my weak legs started shaking again as well. Though....it was less than before.

****

Water....water, I....need....water.

My throat felt like sand paper, and my stomach like it was eating itself. My breath was starting to become ragged. I had long since closed my eyes, using them in a place like this was a waste of energy..... or maybe i just that I didn’t even have enough energy to do so. My arms had started to hang lazily on both sides of my body, and my legs felt like they were about to give out.

Damn, it’s so cold.

My left leg gave out and I was now in a knee position.

I just....need sleep....yeah I’ll continue when I wake up.

I submitted to my desire for sleep, I had  begun to slowly bring my body against the ground. The ground, so much more colder than the rest of the space. But it was so comfortable....too comfortable. I could feel my breathing start to slow as I laid on the cold ground.

Drip

My breathing had turned to be faint, the huffing and puffing I had preformed when walking for all of the what....minutes? Hours? Days? Well....it didn’t matter.

Drip

The sense of fear and the feeling of me being alone, just like my breath, was growing faint. It was all starting to disappear.

Drip

“W-what....is that?”

The continuance of this noise in my ears had gained my attention. It helped me realize what was about to happen to me. What I was about to allow myself to do.

Drip

I need to get to that sound, even if it was the last thing I do....I need to reach that sound.

It had probably only took a few moments to get my body to walk, but in my perception it felt like hours. I was tempted to start crawling, but if I had stopped i knew wouldn't be able to continue.

Drip

So close...I’m almost there. Just a little further and I can have some water!

A pungent smell entered my nose, the smell became stronger and stronger as I approached the sound. But why should I care, just the thought of getting water was enough to make me forget any and everything else.

Drip

I’m here! Where?! Where is it?! Where’s the water?!

Like a ravenous animal I got on all fours in search of this water. The smell strongest it has been was stinging my nose. But it would be worth it for the water.

Th-there it is!

I could feel the warm puddle of water right under my hand! I quickly used my two hands to make a cup and gathered the water in my mouth....

“Pppffffpt!”

Only to spit it right back out.

Wh-what did I just drink?! It was so bitter....but salty?

Then I realized, in this cold place why would just a puddle of water be so warm?

N-no....please no...

I started feeling around once again, If my hunch was correct then I wasn’t alone down here. I put my hands on the place where the dripping liquid was coming from.

“A-a b-body?!”

I quickly throw the object in my hand away.

Furthermore it felt like a human head! D-did I just drink someone else’s blood?!

I had no way to see but there was no way, that I could be mistaken. This shape....something was missing, well a lot of things were it was just the head! Just thinking about such a sight made me want to vomit, though I don't know if I could even if I wanted to.

Shuffle

What was that?

The pieces in my head finally started to form, warm blood, a body less head, and now I could hear something behind me. My once lifeless body got on its feet.

I need to get out of here fast!

Thump bump shuffle

I start running with all of my might. I who hadn’t eaten in so long was only able to run due to the fear of whatever was chasing me. As I ran I could I heard it’s steps gaining on me.

Faster, faster! I need to go faster or I will die!

But my pained body felt like an old floor board, it creaked as if it would give out at any moment. I couldn't let myself break down like this! I must not fall, I must run!

But why? What’s the point?

To survive! If I stop now I will die!

No food, you die. no water, you die. Too cold, you die. Too hot, you die. Have nothing, you die. Run, you die.....Have everything, you live. Kill, you live.

Yes....if I just kill this thing....I can live, right?.... Th-that sounds s-simple enough.

I eventually turn my run into a jog, and my jog into a slow walk, until I completely stop. My breathing was uneasy and heavy. No sense of sight, the void is the only thing I can see.

This thing....it will kill me if I am caught. Even if I could run, the next time I come across it I might not notice in time, or I might be weak at the time. The only way to get rid of this threat is to dispose of it.

Shuffle

My body is crying in pain but I don’t have time to think about it. The real problem is that it was approaching me, and there was no way for me to determine the exact location of it since I can only rely on my sense of hearing.

I’m at a major disadvantage, I know nothing of this thing nor do I know when it will attack. I don’t even have any weapons, and it killed that human easily. Damn, I can’t have second thoughts now!

I close my eyes, waiting for any responses, anything at all to tell me where this thing is at. Ignoring everything else, my sole reason for survival depended on my ears.

Step...step...step

My left!

I run to my left with my eyes closed, there was no point for them here.

“Groar?”

I heard this sound come through the creatures mouth. I had yet to know what it was but that confirmed it knew I was coming. But I didn't let that slow me down, no I needed to go faster! One of us was gonna die right here right now!

“ROOOAAAR!”

Fire?! Was that a bear? A bear is breathing fire?.....well it doesn’t matter, anything will die if it can’t breath....right? But.....what is this feeling?

Through my eyelids I was able to perceive light. as such I, who hadn’t seen such a sight in a long time opened them to find a fire breathing bear. But that wasn't the problem, because It was then the bear too, started running at me! The constant thumps from its steps became louder and louder.

I need to dodge.....now!

When it was only about three feat away from me I thought it would be best to dodge, using just a simple side step to the right.

Slide

The bears body was unable to stop in response to my sharp movement.

I knew there was no way that guys big body would stop immediately! Yes, even for me who lost all memories this is common sense!

I attempt to grab onto its front left leg, upon grabbing it I could feel it’s fur. Long and thick, it was perfect for climbing. Even so this guy is at least five meters tall, am I even going to be able to make it to its head.

“Groaar!”

Not only is this thing insanely fast and big, but it just had to be loud. That roar it preformed ripped through the air and into my ears. I could hear a slight ringing in them, but I had no time to think about it.

Shit! It’s attacking!

The bear using its hind legs to balance, now had a free right paw. It freely attacked me who was on its left. I only barely managed to keep from fatal injury, I was able to shift my body enough to where it only gouged my left shoulder. Luckily my whole arm wasn’t gone with that one.

“That hurts!”

I almost got swatted like a mosquito.... no that doesn’t matter I’m alive! I need to get to it’s back, it can’t attack me there!

Using all the energy my hungry body could come up with I climbed to its back. The bear as a result started thrashing its body out wildly. it was making me lose my grip.

Dammit! No, no, no! Please don’t fall off, common!

There was nothing I could do but grip with all my might, I hung onto it like my life depended on it. Gritting my teeth, I was able to succeed in staying on the beast until it got tired and stopped.

To the neck! I need to hurry!

I climbed as fast as I could to it’s neck, I didn’t care about anything else. This insanely strong bear who was looking down on me, needed to die, or I was! My breath was getting heavy as I felt blood dripping from my shoulder and down to my hand.

“Roaaar!!”

“Rrrraaahh!”

This scream was my desire to live, my desire to kill this thing! I had finally arrived at this things neck. as such I used my legs to mount myself around it’s shoulders, my hands to gouge it’s eyes out.

“Groaaar!”

“Hahaha! How do you like that you damned bear!”

It once again started thrashing out under the unbearable pain of losing both its eyes. It tried its best to hit me while I was on its shoulders, only to ultimately fail. Maybe the pain was too unbearable and it couldn’t focus correctly, It probably had no clue that something as insignificant as me would injure it this much.

The original plan was for me to just strangle it to death but.....this....this is so much more better!

“Ahahaha! Why don't you just drop dead already?!”

Deeper! Just a little more!

I continued to dig my hand into its eyes, past the sockets and into its head. I didn’t allow myself to stop. No! I couldn't stop, not when I was this close! The deeper I went the less the bear moved.

“GROAAR!”

Shit!....

As a last resort it used a breath attack, aimed straight at my face. The stream of fire just barely grazed my nose as I dodged. Though it was nothing more than a small burn.

That....was close. Damn that was hot! This bear....no, just a little more!

I could feel it in my bones, all I had to do was push just a bit more and it would be dead!

“Haaaaaaaah!!”

“GROOAA—”

Shik.....thump!

I fell with the bear, my teeth still gritted. Only after I pulled my arms out of its head did I realize the fact I won.

“I-m alive....”

A smile broke out onto my face since I could finally relax. But it quickly disappeared as the feeling in my body returned after the adrenaline rush.

S-so....hungry....

Eat it....

N-no I can’t, that thing....is a monster. What will happen to me?!

Eat....or you will die.

Yes....I will die. I will die if I don’t eat it...this hunger, I want to eat! I want to eat! Eat!...Eat!...Eat! It’s only natural to eat what I kill!

I walked to the body, I was unable to control the saliva in my mouth from dripping at just the thought from eating. The steps I was taking were a complete contrasted to when I was running away from the bear or trying to kill it. My body was heavy, every step I took was completely automated, it felt like I would collapse any minute.

I need to cut it....

I use my hands to feel around for one of the bears paws. The wound in my shoulder still and bleeding out, probably dripping everywhere.

Found it....

I rip a claw from the bear and use it to cut into its flesh, no care for what part of it I cut.

"such thick skin. Dammit just cut already! I want to eat!"

Indeed the bears claw was incredibly sharp, but the pelt was just as good if not better. And so the anger of wanting to eat and it being so hard to do so began to surface. I clenched the claw as I impatiently cut through the bear. Until I was finally successful in getting a slab of meat from it.

Finally some food!

Gulp

The anticipation of finally being able to eat after all of this time felt as if it was killing me. I unintentionally swallowed the saliva that gathered in my mouth as I put the meat to my lips, and ate it....

Disgusting! Truly disgusting!

The meat was still warm, and I started to realize what I had just done. It was like I was turning into an animal. To think I, a human would eat the raw meat of a monster I had never seen before. Even though the blood of the meat started dripping from the corner of my mouth I didn’t stop. Even if I wanted to I couldn’t. It was the only thing I had in what felt like forever, and I had no way of even cooking it, or preservation.

“Damn....maybe I’m the monster—?!”

It was then a pain so intense I couldn’t even say anything ruptured all over my body.

Just w-what the hell is this! It burns! Dammit it burns!

Just as the bear was when I gouged it’s eyes out I started thrashing around the floor indiscriminately. It was like my body was smoldering, and I was turning inside out. If the hunger wasn’t going to kill me than this surly would.

D-dammit where’s the claw?!

I had experienced enough, this pain was unbearable, if I was going to die anyways....I might as well make it a quick death. I had managed to bring my pained arm to the claw that was on my right. After receiving it I fully extended my convulsing arms up above my chest ready to stab my self in the heart. Gritting my teeth and squeezing my eyes close I brung the claw down....

“?? What is this?”

Just when I was resolved to finally end it all the pain stopped. To think a pain intense enough to make me want to kill myself would just stop like that. It wasn’t only that though....

What....is this? I feel....good?

My body felt so much more lighter....my head became clearer. It was like the starving boy from just a moment ago was a lie. I blinked my eyes a few times in shock. Was it due to the meat?

Whatever, it doesn’t matter. I still need water to survive....

I again got up to start my search for water. Until something struck me

?! What’s this? I can see?!

Of course I couldn’t physically ‘see’ anything, but it felt as if I could just sense my surroundings. In this dark foreboding place, it was an indispensable ability.

It seems to be a passive ability....I’m able to sense things around me within a fifteen meter radius! Not only that but as things get closer to me the clearer my sense on it becomes.

It was amazing, it was just what I needed! I wouldn’t be traveling blind now. With this ability I would be able to survive. And thus with this new 'sight' my journey in the void continued.
