Prologue 2: All of The Sinners

Chapter Two: The Sinners

The white soul hit the dirt.

My fist throbbed at my side with a white streak across the flesh. Tom slammed his shoulder into the back of another white soul. Poppy drove her teeth into the scalp of one that had pinned down a grey.

By the time Anthony reached the group, the white souls were running away.

They knew we won the moment that three greys turned to seven. I rushed after them as if I was going to chase. They scuttled across the plains back to where they had come. A crack of lightning arched in the distance.

“Sorry, we tried to come sooner,” I told the Greys.

All three stood and dusted themselves off. They looked shaken, and the one who had been punched had a swell on the side of his face. But all in all, they weren’t badly wounded.

“We owe you.” One of the grey’s held out a hand.

I took it and shook. “I could have killed them all. Scumbags.”

The grey’s eyes hovered on my fingers. “Your skin.”

I pulled back my hand. It had turned white where my knuckles had struck the soul's face.

"It's nothing," I said.

They shared a look. I knew what they were thinking. If we were so easily provoked into violence, then we could turn on them at any moment. Anthony was the only one whose skin hadn't been burned white.

“Maybe it’s best if we go our separate ways then,” I said, walking on.

Tom, Anthony, and Poppy followed. The greys stood where they were, relief showing on their leader’s face.

“If we meet again, we owe you,” he said.

Judging by how things were going for them, that day would never come.
