|Official Announcement:
To all players of Euclex, first of all, we, the dev team, wish you a pleasant journey filled with excitement and wonders. May you all be witty enough, play to your strengths, and not be bound by your greed or misconceptions.
Many players have expressed dissatisfaction regarding our mysterious policy. Therefore, we generously decided to cast light upon some of your questions.
The core laws of Euclex are fairness, logic, and realism. To honor this aspiration of ours, we developed the Origin System.
Don't you find it unfair to disregard your life until now when starting a game? Before gamers all of you are human beings with years of history and experience under your belts.
You have gained knowledge and trained certain abilities, worked hard to earn money, formed connections with others, made mistakes, procrastinated your youth, groomed or forgo your appearance, and coursed a unique path.
With the Origin System, all of your efforts and debility won't be forgotten. They will turn into a base to build upon your future inside of Euclex. This base may be sturdy or frail. It may push you a few steps before others, or crumble under your feet like a castle of sand. But this is your life. If you want to blame someone, look in the mirror. The culprit will be revealed.
Enough with the poetic descriptions. Now, let us explain.
The Origin System judges the past you, and gives birth to your Individual Title and Skills. These are all visible in your status and self-explanatory when seen.
Besides those, you can Acquire more Titles and Skills, now and in the future as well.
To connect both worlds profoundly, the AI doesn't discriminate between gains in and outside of Euclex. Your actions are constantly observed and recorded. Be it in your home, in your school, while working your job, hanging with friends, or playing the game...
All of your actions and behavior will create invisible stirrings and lead to a change. As the saying goes, it is never too late to improve or weaken yourself.
The majority of skills and stats won't be displayed in numbers and letters. You all should be able to vaguely grasp them in time. As for the rare exceptions, those depend on your luck. All we can say is strive hard, search for the eastern eggs in Euclex, and don't miss on your opportunities.
Last but not least, always think carefully when making a choice.
A simple example is your race and its benefits. Although they are not obvious now, you will soon understand that this first choice may hinder or strengthen you. Please keep it in mind when forging your path.
And don't forget that resetting everything comes with a price. To discourage all of you from abusing this option and casually deleting your character, we decided to enforce the Nil Penalty.
If you choose to reset, you will be prohibited from the game for 6 months in real-life time, while losing all of your items, specially gained skills and properties in the game.
Future functions will be slowly unlocked after you enter a city. This includes....|
Midnight carefully read through the statement twice and grumbled under his breath, "That's pretty much saying that there are no shortcuts to success. We should ultimately rely on ourselves, and work our asses off to gain anything!"
He adjusted his position on the crate, his butt a bit sore, while thinking, But it is fair indeed. Unlike past games where the rich could always use their wealth to trample over the poor hardworking lot, Euclex takes everything into consideration.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
Looks, knowledge, physics, connections, and money. No matter where your strength lies, there is a way to make use of it and gain something. Of course, this is all based on understanding yourself and diligently planning your future.
An example of a stupid mistake is aspiring to be a warrior despite having a naturally weak constitution. Yes, if I had chosen a race and tried to force my way against monsters, I'd have to consider resetting my character and bearing the penalty. If it is unavoidable, then sooner is better than later. Heh, 6 months on the outside equals a whole year into the game. Undoubtedly this will make it much difficult to climb up and compete with the others.
Midnight heaved a sigh of relief for not overestimating himself and betting on a pathway that suited him. It was still early to judge his talents and practical skills, but at least he had spent years brushing his knowledge about crafts. This included biology, chemistry, geology, botany, anatomy, craftsmanship techniques and tools, material science, and so on and so forth. It was his sole hobby to relieve his loneliness, stress, and boredom through the long nights.
This must be what they meant right in the beginning, when 'blessing' us...
With his mood elevated, he stretched up lazily and analyzed the clues hidden inside the announcement. He was already aware of the Origin System and its implications. This didn't lead to any emotional upheavals at all.
What he paid close attention to were a few particular words: choices, hard work, eastern eggs, profound connection between worlds, and most important of all the 'improving or weakening of yourself'.
Weakening myself...This indirectly points out the possibility of losing stats and skills gained from prior hard work. If I don't pay attention and neglect a certain ability, it will slowly or quickly degrade until I can't perform the said action or forget the knowledge I had? With this, it's very easy to become a jack of all trades but a master of none!
Yes, it can also mean that the wrong choices can lead to gaining skills with unfavorable effects. Like the Clumsy I have. Sloth, Pride, and Greed are primordial sins. Heh, I can add Naivity and Thoughlessness too. I should always keep in mind what my actions or the lack of them lead to.
As for the eastern eggs mentioned, Midnight didn't even bother to think. He could only guess that the game held many secrets and fateful encounters, but he couldn't make further deductions. After all, he was barely starting and lacked enough information.
With the bare minimum of analysis done, Midnight sipped on a few mouthfuls of water and stood up.
Cluck? Cluck.
The chicken had already finished the apple and expressed its desire for more.
"Sorry, I can't give my last apple to you. With the existence of hunger and my lack of resources and cash, I need to ration myself. Who knows, maybe in a day or two more, I will have to join you in searching for leftovers. No hard feelings if we become enemies in the future!"
Midnight bid it goodbye, conveying himself in a rare instance of speaking a lot. This chicken couldn't be described as a friend, but it was the first creature he interacted with after joining Euclex. Naturally, he felt a certain sense of comradeship.
Cluck?! Cluck Cluckery Cluck!
The bird squawked in honest anger and stretched out its wings as if to say that it wasn't going to lose in a fight.
"You seem confident. We will see about that!" Midnight teased it and turned to make his way out of the alley. The sun was already near the zenith indicating the time. The whole of Lesotte was overflowing with people.
I have quite a few things to do. Boring, time-consuming, or both. The future seems bleak.
Walking slowly, he organized and planned the next couple of days.
First, check on Lessotte and fill in the map. The function is unlocked, but blank by default. I will need to go around, explore, and adventure to slowly update it.
Then, I have to find an inn or crash in a bookstore. My plan is to read... Will ten copper coins be enough? Yes, I need to consider all of the expenses for food and water as well. I may need to find a job and earn money in a non-dangerous way. Like a waiter or guarding the border at night? Can players even apply for such trivial work?
For now, grasping magic should be brought up in the priority list. To craft I need materials. To forage, harvest, and mine for resources, I need to have the tools and go out. And to go out means to face monsters. Which ultimately brings me to magic. I hope self-studies will be enough. If it isn't I can only find a NPC to teach me the basics. That will cost money again!
Damn, this world is still the same as the one in reality. It's all about the vicious cycle of the omnipotent power of cash. At least we all face the same restrictions and problems. Only after one enters a city can the wealth from the world outside be brought into Euclex. Hehe, this is another type of fairness for the players...
With his thoughts scattered, he could only brace himself for the nearby future.
Euclex was a true world in the purest sense of the word. One that wasn't to be taken lightly just because it was reached through a gaming console.
Just like a different planet, it had its ecosystem, economics, resources, land, facilities, and possibilities. It was just a matter of time before it evolved into a new frontier for humanity to exploit and expand into.
And now as one of the first settlers, I need to work hard. Time is waiting for no man.
