Chapter 2: Albatross

Chapter 2: Albatross

The faint crackle of burnt trees is the only sound in the air. A mushroom is face down, planted horizontal in the dirt, their body battered with a patch of blacken spots.

Up her got, weak and wobbling on their stumps, all around is burned, ash and debris. Life is gone from here and Albatross, weighted with reality, stumbles in the direction of home.

“Aika… Where did you go?” Their breath seeps.

Their home, there was a fog of ashes around it. The closer he got they could see the destruction of the outside boundaries, everything from the berry bushes, sitting logs, chopped wood. Nearing over a humped hill, there remains part of their cabin. Not everything was destroy, but it was badly damaged. Albatross made their way to the fridge, still intact, the items inside remained and he took out the bottle of Juja juice.

Juja Juice held the properties of vitality, applying it to his body there was a small sting, a sting that ran over the body like alcohol to a wound. The pain subsides soon, the pepped step of them standing on still legs is testament.

“I am I ever thankful for the hording ways of that girl.” His strength returns, all is left is the scars of the burned, but they too soon fade like ashes from a grill top. The rejuvenated mushroom makes way into what’s left of the cabin, perhaps Aika was there. A portion of the cabin was burned away, leaving only the remains, some of it, tables, cabinets, assortment of berry makeups, additional portions, ingredients and the television.

“Wait a minute, the, television, why is there a barrier of magic around it?..” He asks himself, realizing. “You brain rotting girl! Putting magic around the television and not the cabin!” The entirety of the living room is gone besides the lone television and router giving it cable.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

A sigh later, there is the second realization that there is nobody here, or any signs of magic lingering on the floorboards. Beings associated with it are known to leave trails of invisible magic bits, there is zero here indicating the while of an empty space.

“You troublesome girl, you better still be alive.” There was one thing to do, he seeks out in a pile of books, burned and new, finding a tome. The tome of coordinates, a map of the world. Upon searching a person, place, or thing the tome would open to a page of information about that specific subject. “Tome, oh tome, seek out the one who lives in this home!” He speaks making the tome light a green hue before opening to a page. There she was, in, “Surbrianna? Oh for Heavens sake! Of all the places for you to end up!” he plants his head on the tome.

Surbrianna was located over a 100 miles from his current location, he held no broom, magical teleporting point, realm manipulator or a car. On foot, it would take days to get there, weeks, months with his stubby little legs and it annoyed him.

“Not to mention the corruption that will be done to you and your feeble, moldable mind, I have no choice.” Albatross gathered together a magical bag, in it, more can be held making it weightless and fitting to the size of the satchel. He packed everything he would need, water, cheese bites, potions that’ll come in handy, ingredients of the same nature and four books needed for enchantments.

Outside the cabin, he looks back. The journey is going to be a perilous one, Albatross never backed down from a difficult task. Aika, she was a girl who could handle herself as well, but even people who can handle themselves at times need help. It’s one of the reasons he was brought into this world after all, he plans to keep that duty, whole or apart. He lifts the satchel more fit for a human then a mushroom. “Darn it!” Frustrated he rushes back inside bringing out a personal, smaller satchel, opening it and stuffing that satchel inside his smaller mushroom sized satchel. “This is just like that dumb movie she’s always watching, interception!” He huffs it in starting his way up the hills. Aika taught him wrong movie names.
