Prologue

I am 7 years old, have no name, and have no home. My parents died in a car accident the year before, and I had nowhere to go, so I ran away from the foster home. I ran and ran till I got tired of running. I can still remember the day everything changed. A black station wagon. A man. A knife. Blood, blood, blood everywhere. A crimson fury. The traces of red veins as my bloodshot eyes surveyed the scene. A man attacked me. Pulled a knife at my back. Predatory instinct kicked in and the months I had spent living on the streets. I quickly dodged to the right and grabbed his wrist and disarmed him. I used his own body as a weapon and threw him to the ground, breaking his arm in the process. I straddle him, the crazed look I gave him showing all the stress I had built up from the months on the run. I was DONE being the mouse, I was gonna be the cat for once. Something on my arm burned with a fiery heat. It started at my shoulder and shot like a bullet to my fingertips. As  I screamed in agony I looked at my arm to see it crimson. At first glance, I thought it was blood. But it was solid plates closely knitted resembling knights' armor of the ancient days. But the metal wasn’t metal, it smelled of the blood I knew well, the coppery scent penetrating the air as I looked in shock at what made the blood armor on my left arm. The man I was on was dead, his body was completely drained of blood and all the fat on his body was gone. Another wave flowed through my arm, this time it was like pouring water in the summer, cold and chilling to the bone, but quickly fading. When the feeling got to my shoulder it was gone. Once again I looked at my arm and there were three things there, all written in blood. Demi-Human, tier I, Demon. I rolled up my sleeve that had reformed over my arm and found words banded around my arm like an ancient manuscript, but they were all smudged except for one, Artemis. As I took in the scene something hit me and I realized what I had done. I got up and ran, noticing as everything began to speed back up and my hearing was coming back to me. I ran three blocks and hid, making sure no one saw me. As I was thinking about what had happened, a single word kept popping up in my head like it had a mind of its own. ‘What, what does that mean? Artemis?’ As I spoke the name the fiery sensation spread through my arm once more and I watched as the black marks of my arm blurred and turned to patterns, morphing together to form a whole into nothingness, and out of came blood, it flowed but not up, nor down, but instead, it flowed like a living creature, encompassing my arm and solidifying into plate armor. A wave of nausea hit me as I was instantly exhausted from the strenuous task of summoning the armor from the void that existed in my arm. As I thought of this new thing that I have discovered, I started to flip. ‘What the heck is this? What is a Demi-human and why do I have a hole in my arm? I just murdered someone and now I have his blood in my body?.’ I slid down the wall I was leaning against till I was sitting on the ground. I was confused and stressed about my current predicament. I fell asleep there and slept for an indeterminate amount of time.

I woke up to the sound of a car door slamming. I stood up and noticed that my arm was back to normal, just the words left. I looked at the commotion and noticed 2 strangers walking toward me. Everything about them screamed danger, their perfect gait as they walked towards me. They never stumbled or fell. When they were 50 feet away from me when they stopped. Staring at me. I turned to run but couldn’t, something in me screamed Arch enemy, I didn’t summon my blood with its name, but it came on its own as a reaction to my elevated heart rate. It crystallized into the armor as I got prepared to fight them if I needed to, but there was no need, the one on the left was a male and he held up his left hand as the lady on the right did the same with her right. A flash of white light lit up the alley. As the remnants of the light faded, I could see them clearly for what they truly were, the Male had a huge greatsword with flames going down the perfect blade, the lady holding a whip and wearing a golden white cloak, wings extending high above their forms. Angels I realized as something happened and I almost blacked out. In an instant, the male was beside me swinging his greatsword in a downward arc. I raised my arm and blocked it, collapsing to my knees as the concrete around me cracked and shattered, creating a miniature impact crater. Again he hit me, and my armor started to crack, I raised my other arm to support my shield arm. The swings kept on coming, relentless in the effort. ‘This is the end, I have these powers for what? To die within the day I got them?’ The final attack came, crashing down and shattering the blood armor. A nebula of blackness exploded outward, imploding and casting impenetrable darkness upon everything, the darkness cleared and the angel was on the ground near death. I collapsed, was paralyzed, and passed out.

Chains. The smell of perfection and rust. The damp wall against my back. Light attacked my eyes as a migraine set in that attacked me with the force of a bus. As I tried to stand, I noticed that my chains highly restricted me. Trying to summon my blood armor, a sharp pain shot through my arm as I noticed that my arm was in a lead mold, encompassing my whole arm and not allowing me to use my powers. I slid back to the ground as I realized that there were chains that glowed yellow with the light of divinity that was clasped to my ankles and neck. A man faced through the wall, an angel I noticed as he came closer and raised a needle. I tried to get away from him, squirming on the ground, but it was futile as the needle went into my neck and the white, glowing liquid was injected into my neck.

Blackness fades to grayness. Grayness fades to fog. I am floating in an endless sea of blackness. I feel nothing, I see nothing, I. AM. NOTHING. A cacophony of colors disturbs the peaceful void as they swept over me and encased me.

I am in a hallway. I am being chased by a man, a man of unknown origin as he tries to kill me. I turn and test the first door; locked. The man gets closer; his gait is slow and precise. I try the next, locked. The lights flicker and go out for a split second. The man is closer. 20 yards away. I run to the next, but moving waste is hard, tiring like fighting against waves in an ocean as the tide pulls you out to sea. Locked. The man gets closer, 15 yards. It is harder to move as I continue to search the doors for an exit. I pass three more doors before I get to a door with a nameplate, Artemis. I don’t know the name, for I don’t even have anything. The door is unlocked, but the hinges are rusted and hard to open. I push and push with all my might but it doesn’t budge. The lights flicker and the man is behind me, his knife poised high above his head. In a flash of memories, I see murder. I am murder. In an angry rage, I channel my whole being into the door. The man freezes as red lines creep up the door, pulsating like the blood veins of a malevolent creature. The door opens to show a burning inferno, with a great ocean of blood. I step in, feeling an unnatural calmness settle over me as I see a man, but strangely Deja vu hits me as I see the man’s face. Calmness, the reckoning has come. I see him, but I know that this man’s skin is just that, skin deep. The man spoke in a booming voice that comes from all directions

‘Son, come, for the time of the fall of men has come, you are one of many of my children, but you are my closest, for you come from the Diablos demon line. Embrace wrath and anger and you shall gain power like none other.’

I was drawn to him, his voice like honey. My left arm started to bleed, coating my arm and dripping. But the drops were falling up. The blood spread to my chest as a burning sensation began to spread out. I fell to my knees as my right arm had an icy spike of pain. A jagged voice shouted out in my head.

‘Remember and see who you are. You are the moon that brings the tide. You are the controller of gravity and law, for you have the blood of the angel of Ancient Law and the human ancestry of a Great Summoner. Fight the malevolence that courses through your veins, don’t let it consume you, for your time in this world has just begun. Some will seek to do you harm. But you must guard creation against the evil forces that are coming to destroy everything the man holds dear.’

A white light bled out of my arm, centuries of cross-breeding from magic coming out and forming into a white armor across my arm. It spread to a battle at my chest, where it met and flooded. It pooled and twisted, and with nowhere for the energy to go, it shot up, forming a helmet and curving down my back, forming a tattered cloak. The man looked at me with disappointment.

‘You couldn’t just sit there as I made you immortal?’

I stood up, feeling a surge of power as I lifted my right arm. I called a name that filled my head. ‘Reigis’ the armor morphed to form a great shield. I called upon my other arm, Artemis, and a greatsword formed in my left hand. The man smiled as his form began to blur. His head exploded and blood flowed out of his body, flooding everything. My vision went dark.

I woke up back in the jail cell. My memory of the dream faded except for the name Reigis. I looked around and noticed that the jail I was in was destroyed, and the Lead case on my arm was imploded. I stood up and checked around the corner of the hallway. A man was running in my direction and there was no way to go except towards him. I called upon Reigis and let the bioluminescent white blood flow from my arm, creating armor. I stepped around the corner just in time to see a flash of light as the man transformed into the angel, the same angel that attacked me in the alley. As  I had my armor out, I realized that my divine armor didn’t have a draw on me because it was drawing from the environment. The man raised his greatsword to attack me as I called out the summoning name. ‘Aigis!’ The shield formed right as the man attacked, the unexpected barrier knocking him off balance, giving me enough time to call upon my other arms' sword and drive it through his chest. The white blood flowed freely up my shield arm, being absorbed into my arm. My left arm fell limply to my side as the draw of using my demonic summon in this area hit me.  I stored the weapon and shield and continued on my way. With my angelic shield, no one bothered to stop me from mistaking me for one of them. I walked for a long time down what seemed to be an endless hallway before I finally reached the front door. The front door was a white gate with water flowing in it. I touched it and was instantly in a bright white tunnel, moving at a speed unimaginable.

I was spitting out in an alley that  I had never seen, my armor was hidden and I was safe for now. Looking at my left arm there were more words. Arch demi demon, rank II; Arch demi Angel, rank II; Human summoner. Rolling up my sleeve there were two words now. Reigis and Artemis, along with a new name, Meirui. Interested, I rolled down my sleeve and yelled out the new name ‘Meirui!’ blood collected in both arms, and when it was at the pinnacle amount of blood, it shot back at an upward angle. After a couple of moments, it solidified into wings. A Raven and Dove Whitewing. Feeling the liquid go into my back it created fibers of the muscle that connected to my spine, allowing full control of the wings.
