Music echoed in the air. All faces turned toward the person whose devices were emitting the music. One of the meeting participants mockingly remarked:
“You set the administrative anthem as your ringtone?”
The lady sighed as she consulted her smart-bubble:
“Yes, to report someone particularly annoying, but to whom I must respond. Get out of here, everyone.”
Ignoring their protests, she chased the participants out of the room and then activated the security measures: door locks, security nanorobots, sensor jammers, sound and visual protection bubble... She even projected herself into weightlessness by antigravity to avoid any listening based on ground vibrations. Thus, protected by a succession of defenses worthy of the Intelligence Department or the Illegal Research Sub-Institution, the lady activated the communication. She looked both particularly annoyed and respectful, which was not an easy combination to express.
“Ah, finally, you're picking up!”
“Sir, allow me to strongly reproach you for calling me here! Do you know what would happen if these people found out who you are? Personally, I wouldn't care if I wasn't on the front lines of their reactions.”

“Well, well, so, how is the project developing?”
“Concerning the ‘V’ project, I have of course located Lhom's hiding place. I am still thinking about how to proceed...”
“Perfect... but hurry up: events are happening one after the other.”
“Yes, I heard about Domeria's elimination... A waste: her talents would have been useful to us. We would have just had to create false leads to divert her from the truth. It would not have been easy, but I can do it.”
“Her death also serves our plans. Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the best.”
“Oh, I thought you were a follower of Homtest’s philosophy? They say rather ‘Why do it simple when you can do it complicated?’.”
“But the basis of this philosophy is the use of paradox: he who controls the paradox controls the universe. And, doing the opposite of their philosophy is totally a part of their philosophy.”
The lady's features expressed total indifference: she wasn't even going to bother finding meaning in these words.
“Okay, speed up a little: this revolt must take place before the Zcarbbs have taken too much territory. Otherwise, it will be blamed on me... But when the ‘V’ project has succeeded, we will have a perfect scapegoat...”
The communication cut off, the lady remained for a moment to rest in antigravity, still isolated from the outside world by her defenses. But she relaxed by thinking intensely: she didn't know of any other methods.
“Well… I didn’t lie to him… But I guess he won’t mind me hiding that detail about Domeria from him, if everything goes well… Everything is under control…”
