He awoke with the memory of intense pain still lingering inside him. He kicked his arms and legs about. He wanted to scream too. Every cell inside his body still echoed from the excruciating agony the injection had caused him. His veins were throbbing. His muscles were spasming. He wanted to scream, but couldn’t. He was stuck inside a stasis chamber. His lungs were filled with fluid. Several tubes ran into his nose and mouth. He saw that a yellowish liquid was being replaced by a greenish one. The pain started to dissipate as soon as the green liquid began to enter his body. It helped him calm his senses and observe his surroundings. He noticed he was inside a Misori industries model 800, S series. He had repaired a few of them a couple of years back. The way the tubes and valves fed into the system was unmistakable. Recognizing the type of stasis chamber he was in helped him calm down further. It helped give him a sense of understanding of his surroundings, even though he had no idea where they had taken him.
He remembered how, during the repairs, he had wondered about what it would feel like to be stuck inside one. Guess now he knew. He noticed he wasn’t alone. The woman in black was observing him from behind a glass window. Next to her stood two men. One dressed in a white lab coat; the other was wearing the same black uniform that she had. On his left and right were more stasis chambers. They were filled with other men. Voss wondered if these men were in a similar predicament to his own, or if he had been brought to a general medical institution. Seeing the naked men in the stasis chambers next to him, made him feel aware of his own nakedness. Suddenly the lieutenant’s presence felt most unwelcome.

‘The plan has worked’. Her voice sounded muffled from behind the glass. ‘Give us a thumb up if you can hear us’.
He showed them a different finger. The men didn’t seem to appreciate the gesture. The man in black spoke: ‘Put him back under. We’ll get him to fall in line when he’s ready.’ The man in the white coat spoke something into his wristwatch. The fluid inside the tubes turned yellowish again. His eyelids became increasingly heavy.
The man in black spun round and walked off, the others followed. He enjoyed watching her walk away. He wished he could have watched her a little longer, but his eyes became too heavy and before he knew it, he was under again.
