Chapter 15: Array Success

The next morning, Jett went back to Jong’s house. When he arrived, Jong was surprised to see him already, since he had just given the books to him two days ago.

“Why are you here? Did you already finish reading all the books and understand them?” Jong asked.

“Indeed, I even studied the arrays in the tower for better understanding. I would like to ask for blueprints for higher tier arrays if you have them,” Jett replied

“I see, follow me,” Jong said, leading Jett back to his personal library. “Since I knew you would be coming back, though I didn’t think you would be back so soon, so I don’t have everything I asked for from some people. I have blueprints that will help you, at least for now,” Jong said while handing Jett a small box.

Opening the box, Jett saw blueprints rolled up on one side and a stack of books on the other. “Thank you very much. I’ll repay you somehow. Maybe if you guys can find a space for it, I could create higher-tier arrays for students.”

“You don’t need to do that, for now. If we do request you to do that, we will pay you for your troubles,” Jong said, escorting Jett to the door. “When I get the rest, I’ll get Jack to bring them over to you.”

“Thanks again, see you later,” Jett replied, running back to the house.

Upon arriving back, Jett quickly brought everything to an empty spare room. Jett wanted to use it for the arrays, though he planned to go into the forest to test the arrays so they wouldn’t blow up the house if he created them incorrectly.

He started going over the blueprints. They included a Qi array, a lightning array, a wind array, a Protection Array, and lastly, a killing array. However, the last two were weaker compared to the first three.

Jett quickly comprehends them and creates his own blueprint in his mind. He then starts to read the books he was given. However, it seems like they were just ingredient books, detailing what ingredients can be used in arrays and their effects.

After reading them all, Jett went to the market and bought some supplies. He purchased a grindstone and some chalk, then headed to the forest. Upon arrival, he searched for an open, flat, rocky area. He knew where some could be found since he had already explored the forest. He quickly headed to one.

Upon arrival, it was just as Jett wanted. Quickly setting up, Jett started by using the chalk to draw a basic Qi array from memory. However, he immediately encountered a problem. He couldn’t draw a circle correctly. He had never had good handwriting, and it seemed that this transferred over as well.

He redrew it multiple times, over and over again. Finally, he achieved one circle that looked good. He decided to practice with it and improve his circle drawing skills later. He drew the symbols with ease, as well as the lines. Then, he took out the grindstone and started grinding up some spirit stones, turning them into a fine powder. He added a little bit of water and mixed it, creating a thick paste-like substance.

Pouring the spirit stone paste onto the array, following the chalk layout, he created the array. Placing a few spirit stones around it, he poured his Qi into the array to activate it. It started up and began gathering Qi. It was a success, though this was a low-tier array, similar to the ones found on the first floor of the tower.

In the process of making the low-level array, it still took him 10 spirit stones in total to create. The higher-tier ones will cost even more. Jett erased the array and packed up. While he did want to practice higher-tier arrays, he felt it was essential to first learn how to draw a circle in one smooth stroke.

Before heading home, Jett took out his sword and cut a piece of stone to use for practice with chalk. Then he started heading home he first went back to the market to buy a lot more chalk. Upon arriving home, he went back to the empty spare room and began practicing drawing.

Jett kept drawing circles over and over again. After a few hours, Jang-mi told Jett that dinner was ready. He went downstairs to eat.

“How are the arrays going for you?” Jang-mi asked.

“The first array was a success, but I do have a problem that I am trying to solve,” Jett replied. Then he added, “I can’t draw circles correctly and I am trying to learn how to.”

“I can help you with that. I like to draw,” Jang-mi replied.

“That would be super helpful if you could,” Jett said.

After dinner, they went to the room and Jang-mi started teaching Jett how to draw. Jett did get better, but it wasn’t good enough yet. Now it was late and it was time for bed.

“Let's go to sleep. I don’t have anything to do tomorrow, so I can teach you to draw the whole day tomorrow,” Jang-mi said.

“Alright, have a good night Jang-mi,” Jett said, causing Jang-mi to blush and go to her room. Jett also went to his room and fell asleep.

The next day, they woke up and had breakfast. Then, Jang-mi started teaching Jett again. Around noon, they took a break, made lunch, and then got right back to it.

“You're getting better. You should be able to draw circles perfectly each time soon. Of course, right now you can draw a circle 75% of the time,” Jang-mi said.

“It was all because of you. If I didn’t have a great teacher like you, I wouldn’t be progressing this fast,” Jett replied.

“It’s fine. I love spending time with you. I had more fun today than I have had in a long while,” Jang-mi replied.

Jett smiled and nodded. After a few more hours, they decided to end the session for the day. They planned to make some dinner, then relax, and finally go to sleep. Jett also decided to go practice arrays tomorrow, since he was now proficient at creating circles. Additionally, Jang-mi wouldn’t be available to teach him the next day.

The next day, Jett left for the stone area in the forest once more. Upon arrival, he quickly set up everything he needed and started drawing a Qi array that was on the final floor of the tower. He wanted to practice creating lower-tier ones before attempting the final one. Since he hadn't seen a real one yet and had only seen blueprints, there was a chance that something could go wrong later.

Quickly finishing the drawing of the array with chalk, he prepared more of the paste from Spirit stones. He poured it following the chalk lines. Placing spirit stones around the array, he activated it. It quickly started up and was a success. Jett was happy again. He then moved over and started drawing the tier 3 Qi array based on the blueprint Jong had given him.

Jett quickly drew it based on the blueprint, then once again created the paste and poured it following the chalk lines. Placing spirit stones around it, he tried to activate the array. It didn’t start. Jett was confused and looked over the array to check for any mistakes. However, he couldn’t notice any.

Looking at the other Qi array he had made, Jett started to calculate to see what the problem was. He realized that there shouldn't be anything wrong with the array. The only thing he could think of was that maybe the amount of paste wasn't enough. Jett created some more and poured it on.

Jett tried to activate it again. This time it did start, but stopped before it could fully activate. Jett realized that, this time it was the spirit stones around the array that weren’t enough. He placed double the amount and activated it. The array started and then began gathering Qi from the surroundings. It was a success.

Jett quickly sat down and started cultivating. After an hour, he knew that this was a massive success. The Qi he was absorbing with the array was far more than the ones in the tower. He was happy. He decided to practice here for the day so that he didn’t waste too many spirit stones.

After a few hours of cultivating, he finally broke through to the second level of the Core Formation Stage. He got up and erased the array, then headed home. He was happy that today was a massive success. Now, he could create arrays at the house that he could use.

Jett started heading home and, along the way, he got some alcohol to celebrate. Upon arriving, Jett found that Shen Wei was waiting for him. He quickly went over and bowed to Shen Wei, saying, “Greetings to Clan Leader.”

“Hello, I am here today to let you know that the lockdown has been lifted. So you can go into the forest now,” Shen Wei said.
