When Davin woke he felt confused, only remembering bits and pieces of all of the events over the last few days, the arm that was draped over his stomach reminded him that he wasn’t alone, with how small Jes's bed was they had to be snuggled close, he didn’t mind the closeness of the situation. The bed had just enough space for them to lay side by side, but she had quickly taken every inch of available space and moved into such a position that Davin had found himself pinned in place after waking up, to think that her small frame would be able to exert such force to be able to hold him in place now that he was awake baffled him. Opening his status gave him something to do while she snored into his back.

There were a few new pieces of information on his character sheet, one of the biggest being he now had an experience total, the buff from being well-rested was new too. So now that he had his class unlocked he was available to gain experience points, which seemed weird that he had to have the class in order to gain the experience, but it wasn’t his system to critique. Knowing that the graduation got him some starting experience took the edge off the whole event, he was still annoyed, but far less angry now, having enjoyed a decent night's sleep. Since there wasn't any form of notification system, he wasn’t sure where all his experience came from, easiest to assume that it was a mixture of the trials that he went through, then his mind drifted to his days back playing tabletop games and MMO's, wondering if party experience was split or if it was awarded separately. How did quests work now that he had his class? Would he get a log book in order to track them? He had stormed out so fast, so he felt that he was missing large chunks of information, he'd need to make sure that he remembered to ask once he had a chance to make it to The Hall.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Closing his character sheet, he felt a bit calmer, and with Jes still holding him he took the chance and fell back to sleep. When Jes woke, she was far less polite about, climbing over him in a rush to get to the bathroom, kissing him on the cheek as she rushed out of the bed. Stretching as he now was untangled from Jes, checking his status and seeing that he was still well rested, but hadn't gained any larger amount to the buff. Taking the opportunity, got up, moving over to the kitchen to start making breakfast, since he had inadvertently forever volunteered himself to cooking duty. He was lucky, Jes seemed to keep a selection of basic ingredients, and he got to work. The smell of bacon filled the apartment, the dried meat cooking in a dollop of butter, the pancakes were a little more difficult, the lack of baking powder would mean that they wouldn’t be as fluffy as he was used to, but the chocolate that he had made would make for a fantastic syrup. Jes wasn't what Davin would call a morning person, when she entered back into the main room, she breathed deeply through her nose and then let out a loud moan of pleasure as she crossed the room back over to her bed.
"That smells amazing, makes me really glad that I bought that on a whim, what else are you making? Bread?" She flopped loudly onto her bed, pulling her excessive pile of pillows into a pile to lean against so that she could watch him cook.
"Pancakes with chocolate syrup, do you know if there are any maple trees out in the wilds?" Setting down his batter to let it rest while the bacon cooked.
Pulling out a small pot, he started his syrup, having only flower as a thickener wouldn’t work for this part, so started a milk and sugar sauce, letting it caramelize into a thick sauce before adding the chocolate and a touch of salt. The sauce cooled as he started his pancakes, he may need to check with an alchemist for baking powder, otherwise, he may need to get his hands on some yeast. Jes eventually drifted over, snagging a piece of bacon off of the plate that Davin had cooling.
"What have I told you about eating the props?" His scowl was a mix of threat and endearment.
"I had to, no one can resist bacon that long and survive, I did it for my own livelihood." She bit into the piece of bacon, letting out another moan of pleasure.
"No one has died from not eating bacon, but I'm sure that the opposite can't be said." He shooed her away, flipping his cakes, the smell filling the air.
She feigned hurt as she wandered back over to the bed. "What else do you know how to cook?"
"Most things, I did it as a hobby in my previous life, and it just came with me, are food buffs a thing?" platting some of his pancakes and adding some more bacon for Jes. "Now you may eat." Setting the small cup of chocolate next to her plate.
"But I already sat down, bring it to me?" She moved her hands in a grabbing motion.
Letting out a sigh that was far more exaggerated than it needed to be, he carried the plate and sauce over, drizzling a star over the cakes before handing it to her with a fork. "Don't forget to chew." Bowing deeply, he chuckled as he walked back to the kitchenette.
They sat and ate, Jes continuing to let out small moans of pleasure with every bite, clearly enjoying the breakfast, he had to admit, it all turned out far better than he'd anticipated. The two flavors played well off of one another, making him think about candied bacon and a few
other fun treats that he could make. He started building a mental list of things to shop for the next time that he was near one of the stores.
The two of them made their way into the Rogues training hall, Davin still wearing the loaned kilt, feeling as though it was the strangest walk of shame in his life. Seeing Gale's wide eyes as they crossed the common area towards Davin's small room. Gathering his things felt weird, less from the actions and more from the fact that he'd only been in the room a few weeks by homes standards, a part of him felt like things were moving too quickly for what he was ready for, but another part of him being as happy as a clam. Luckily he didn't have all that much to collect, since most of the things that he'd owned were recognized adventuring gear, there wasn't all that much to gather, but the feeling of leaving what he knew as a home still stung a little. Dropping his bag back in Jes's apartment, on the other hand, felt calming, knowing that he now had somewhere that was home and not just a place where he'd sleep at night. While clean, he didn't appreciate the kilt as much as Jes seemed to, flipping up the edges every time she'd gotten close to him. Having pants seemed like such a small comfort before the kilt, but he was glad to have his pants back, for the pockets as much as the security.
Making his way to The Hall after dropping his few things off at Jes's felt good, similar to what he could remember about his first home, that it was his, to a certain extent. He limitedly knew which direction it was at all times, similar to knowing which way was north, but as he got further from it the pull lessened. The shame showed on Big Green's face as the two of them locked eyes, motioning to the kitchen, Davin followed, his mood dimming as he walked.
"Now, I know that you're upset, hell, I'd be more surprised if you weren’t, but you also weren't the first to go through with the right." Wringing his hands as he averted his gaze.
Davin held up his hands, in a calming motion. "I know, Jes told me, doesn't make me any less mad at you all." dropping his hands to his sides and clenching them.
"I knew you didn't come from an adventurer base world, I could have stopped it. Hell, Gale knew too, but the two of us got too worked up." Dropping his head.
"One of you will likely be punched in the face at some point in the future." Letting out a small hmph with his threat.
"Fair enough, I think that we both deserve it to some extent." Grabbing a bag from the wall. "You should have gotten these yesterday, sorry about the late gift." Passing over the burlap bag. "Nothing too exciting in there, just some extras that some of us have found useful over the years, a cooking set from me, some tools from Jes, she said you'd know how to use them, Gale tossed in a new set of picks as well as some other roguish extras, Grim tossed in a set of gloves and a patch, and the guild as a whole tossed in a log book, that last one will be handy, helps you track your quests."
Davin pulled out the 'book' looking it over, the stone cover seemed weathered and old, Davin tried to open it, and the book seemed almost solid. "How do I open it?"
"Once you're attuned you'll be able to open it, they're practically indestructible, and you can add notes and maps to it, you'll figure it out. The gloves can be attuned too, and the patch is one for hand-to-hand combat."
"Hand to hand? Hmm, handy." Davin chuckled at his joke.
"Heh, that’s what Grim said too. That takes care of your first few attunement slots. You'll unlock a few more as you level."
"I'll get more? Cool."
"Yup, you'll get different types as well, it's been a while, but I think that you'll get one when you hit level two." Looking off into the distance in thought.
"Thanks! I really do apricate all of this." Holding the new items to his chest.
"Anytime, when you get that log bound, come on back, I'll get you a quest." He smiled wide, his tusks making the smile feel more threatening than endearing.
"Sounds like a plan, I need to talk with Hugh before any of that gets kicked off, need to see what else we need before we go."
"Hugh was planning to come in tonight and wait for you, so I'm guessing somewhere around the dinner rush." Tapping his chin in thought.
"Oh, sounds like a plan, I'll be back then, have some errands to run." Scooping up hew new items into the bag. "You want this bag back?"
"Nah, all yours. Nothing special about it though."
"I left mine at Jes's" Turning and walking out to the common room before Big Green could fully process what he said.
Jes eyed the bag. "Is that all the gifts?"
"Yup, although, he called what you got me 'some tools'."
She guffawed. "That is far more than just any tool kit, it is a trap kit, I made it myself, for the building and disassembling of traps, puzzles, and other contraptions that you may come across along your way." She smiled wide with pride, holding her hands on her hips like she was a superhero.
"That is so much better than he made it sound, that should be handy, honestly it's not as heavy as I would have expected honestly." Giving the whole bag a shake on his back.
"Want to drop that back home? Or keep it with us?"
"It's not that heavy, we can keep it with us, plus, I don’t think I would be able to just carry a cupboard back to your place on a whim."
"Fair point."
The two of them walked into the center of the city, making their way into the market proper. The market district in the center of The Rainbow Bastion was a sight to see, closer to a flea market than anything else he could imagine, the din of voices, as they entered, hit like a wave, it was the largest gathering he'd seen in the city, and it even dwarfed the full swing over at Long Dock. One of the biggest things missing was the strong smell of the ocean and fish, so Davin was feeling in higher spirits than he had before. Jes grabbed his wrist and pulled him deeper into the market, passing all kinds of shops, some of the ones that caught his attention were dedicated to spices that he'd never seen, alchemy vendors selling potions, and a few that seemed to only sell patches. The furniture store that they'd ended up at was giant, well mostly in comparison to the other shops that he'd seen, still not as big as the ones that he'd been used to, and every single piece was handcrafted, and it all looked amazing.
With how amazing everything looked, it also reminded him of how much he absolutely hated furniture shopping.
