Mothers hugged their children warning them of the dangers, fathers were gathering food supplies, beggars knocked to the church's doors and rich locked themsleves in their mansions.
Each village, small or big, was in chaos filled with people full of fear for their lives. The night's darkness was terrifying, but what was worse was lack of it, or to be more precise - creatures that seemed to ignore natural laws, visible at night and black as shadows durning the day.
Some people called them demons, some said they were a calamity send from heavens as a divine punishment, feral beasts created from failed experiment, dark soldiers of a neighboring kingdom, or simply called these creatures it, followed with a number of curses.
It didn't need a name, all that was needed to be said was that there was a lot of it and it was dangerous.
Since the it first appeared it burned, ate and tore apart every human it encountered. In this just a few days ago peacful land scent of blood and bodies tore to shreds now became a norm.
For over a week most villages in the country were destroyed by the dark creatures. No prayers helped, it even seemed that every person who dared to ask Gods of help suffered fate even worse.
"The Gods abbonded us, I heard from the errand boy that his older brother prayed for survival of his children, mid prayer they were all crushed under the roof when it appeared in the village."
"Oh Gods...How can this be, such a young soul...the lady from the fruit store had it bad as well, a burning cart fell right on top of her, I saw it with my own eyes, she was so young, not even married. What did she ever do to deserve such fate. The woman's face was terrified and her eyes swollen from tears, she looked so pitiful you could think it's her own sister that died.
"That's what she deserves after all she's done. Just how many man has she seduced just to sell an apple?" Said the man who just entered the room carrying a bucket full of fresh milk.
"Honey! How can you say that? She was-" Before she could finish the sentece her voice cracked and tears drained on her cheeks.
"She was what?" The bucket splashed some of its content as it hit the table. "No one would buy all these terrible fruits if not for how she waved at men! Did you at least pick up something from her stall?"
"You-! How can you be so cruel, only carrying about your own butt!" The woman scolded her husband who didn't seem to care too much about it, he's long used to his wife's words.
"Of course I care for myself, we have to survive somehow! If only they didn't lock the borders-! I would take you both out of the country right now even if it meant killing everyone on our way!" His fist clenched making a noise of cracking bones.

"..." The young girl sighed "Dad's right, we don't have the time to worry about others." She looked her mother deep in the eyes with a hurtful expression.
Crack.
The sound of crackling bones was heard once again.
"But...they were all innocent people, they didn't deserve such fate." Both family members knew what a good person the woman was, she would rather starve herself to death than ignore a beggar on the street if she saw one. It was troublesome at times but neither her daughter or her husband could complain about it, what bad was a little good deed now and them after all. They had money and animals to take care of, it wasn't uncommon for them to hire people the woman felt bad for to take care of their household. But this time...this time it was different.
The girl pulled her mother to a hug and brushed through her hair gently."We don't deserve it either...please...did we ever forbid you from helping others? Listen to us just this once, we don't want to loose you." She slowed when saying the last sentece, making sure to emphasize each word.
Crack.
She wanted to ask her father to join the hug and say something too, but when she turned around to look at where he should be standing cold sweat ran all over her body. It took her a moment to process the scene in front of her, before her sigh blurred and her lips trembled. It was the end, she was sure of it.
Her father high in the air, his legs hanging from the mouth of a black figure tall for over 2 meters, his upper body long gone. The sound of slowly cracking bones and drops of blood falling to the floor echoed in the girl's ears.
When the older woman in her arms felt her daughter's hands trembling she wanted to pull away and ask what's wrong, but the girl only hugged her tighter. She was scared, she wanted to cry and scream, but nothing came out of her mouth.
Maybe it was better, maybe she could at least let her mother die without witnessing the scene, maybe she didn't have to be worried, maybe the death would be painless or maybe someone could save them right now, some kind of hero...as if. There was no running away now for either of them and there was no peaceful death in this land. The Gods really did abbond humanity, what grave sin have they committed to deserve such fate, it didn't matter, nothing mattered now. Tears fell down her cheeks.

Since that day more than 200 years passed, the country in the middle of the continent was empty ever since then and whoever dared to set foot in the abbonded land was never to be seen again.
Although it was patrolling the border, it never left the country, similar creatures started to appear in the surrounding countries only years later.
The only runaway from the catastrophe kept repeating "homo solis" in between begging for help with a voice shaking so much the border guard couldn't understand anything and thought the runaway was spouting nonsense after going crazy due to severe trauma. When the guard later filled report to his superior, he mencioned the runaway kept repeating something like "homslis" and thus the creaturer were names Homslis. Until long later no one knew what the runaway wanted to say, and when they did no one understood the meaning of these words until they saw the creatures with their own eyes.
The runaway lived for few more weeks until he died from shock after post trauma hallucinations, he was the last noted death from the great kingdom of Sanva.
Years later ignorant people considered the man to be the one to bring these demons to other countries as a punishment for escaping his fate for so long. If only the man's name was known, it would be currently used as a curse.
