Tears streamed down Aveline's face, and only then did she seem to notice them. She wiped them away with her hand, then clenched her fist.

"What's there to cry about?" she muttered.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.

But the more she tried to suppress them, the more the tears flowed.

Selena quickly hugged her. "Ave, don't cry. It's not worth it for a man like him."

Aveline suddenly grabbed Selena's arm, her fingers turning white from the grip. "He doesn't believe me... How could he not believe me? When I took him in, he wasn't like this."

He wasn't like this at all.

He had lost all his memories, like a blank slate, curious about her but also wary.

But he had never looked at her with such cold, suspicious eyes.

Never!

The present Lucas was a stranger who terrified her.

It was as if someone else had taken over Lu's body, causing her immense pain.

Selena patted her back. "People change. Men with or without money are different, too. Ave, you decided to divorce, right? It's time to let go."

Aveline cried, her voice hoarse, "But... but I really loved him. How could he treat me like this?"

How could he?

His words and his eyes felt like knives stabbing into her heart, making it hard to breathe.

Selena's tears fell as well. In her heart, she cursed Lucas a thousand times, while trying to comfort and calm Aveline.

The taxi driver glanced at them and opened his mouth as if to say something, but realizing it would be futile, he silently handed them tissues. Soon, they arrived at Maple Garden.

Selena helped Aveline out of the car. She was crying so much she was out of breath and looked even worse.

Once inside, Aveline sat on the sofa, quietly sobbing, trying to calm down.

She needed to vent.

If she didn't, she wasn't sure what terrible thing she might do.

Selena poured her a cup of honey water. "Ave, stop crying. Drink some sweet honey water and try to forget those unhappy things."

"Thank you, Selena. I'm so grateful to have you by my side," Aveline said, looking at her with appreciation.

If Selena hadn't been there, Aveline really didn't know what she would have done.

Selena replied, "I told you I'd be useful if I stayed. But you kept trying to push me away."

"I was wrong," Aveline said, blinking her swollen eyes, looking pitifully at her.

Selena sighed. "Alright, alright, I forgive you. Now drink the honey water and get a good night's sleep. When you wake up, you'll still look beautiful!"

Aveline nodded. She needed to pull herself together. Wasting so much energy on him really wasn't worth it.

Every time she thought of his eyes, her heart ached, so she tried not to think about it.

She put down the cup and went into the bedroom. After taking a shower to wash away her exhaustion and pain, she climbed into bed. She thought she would have trouble sleeping, but she fell asleep within five Selena stood at the door, looking at her with a heart full of sorrow.

Just then, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was Aaron calling.

"What is it?" Selena answered, her tone icy.

Aaron replied, "You're my caregiver, and you ran off. When I call you, you ask me what it's about? Miss Quin, have you forgotten what you're supposed to be doing?"
