Ok so,
I never wanted it to come to this, but after having massive issues with getting Godslayer released, I kind of have no choice.
I love serialising. It keeps me honest in my writing and helps me keep up a prodigious pace. Amazon though, Amazon hates it. See, when it comes time to publish, I take down the book, edit it, and then put it up for sale on Amazon.
Now to use kindle unlimited, a huge source of income, you have to have the story be exclusive to Amazon. Now here's the rub, Amazon struggles with the concept of serialisation. It will pick up that the book was serialised once, even if it's been removed (and I suspect the fact that RR never actually really deletes a chapter plays into this). It takes a lot of emails, calls, pleading and cajoling to get them to finally understand.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
And I just can't do it. I don't have this issue with the books I don't serialise, and whilst I love doing it, at this point, it's actively hurting my author career. Godslayer was supposed to out days ago, and I'm still battling to get Amazon to understand I own it. That's days of lost revenue considering I had promotions lined up for the series. If I ever intend to live off my writing (and I'm pretty close to doing that) I can't keep doing something that costs me time and money, even if I do love it. The conversion of serial readers to book purchasers is, honestly, terrible.
So. No more Aether Knight serial. It will still be coming out on Amazon, with a ton more books on the way, but that's it for the free version. It sucks, but it is what it is, I have to put my career first. You might occasionally see serials from me for books that are intended to be free, short stories and the like, but that's it.
I hope everyone understands, and I'm sorry if you were looking forward to more updates, but I have to do what's best for myself in the long run.
