Chapter 047 - Aftermath

Chapter 047 - Aftermath

AN: Yo, your lazy author presents you (slightly modified) chapter 47.

I wanted to change around half of the chapter before, but after thinking for a bit, I decided it didn't need a lot of changes.

I just made minor adjustments, it won't be necessary to read it again and you can skip to the next chapter (or you can just focus on the first 3 paragraphes and the last 3 ones)...

Aenthar: “... … … I can't believe it... … I'm so ashamed... …”

Aenthar was sitting on the ground, at the edge of the training field, next to Natasha. His legs were crossed and his face was in his hands.

-------

When Aenthar was about to take back his staff, Muriem had regained conciousness with a jerk. Admist her blurry vision, she saw Aenthar bend to grab his staff while Kerrina was sitting on the ground trying to get up. It all clicked in her head. As fast and silently as she could, she grabbed her halberd and launched a desperate attack. Because she was still weak, she couldn't muster much strength in her legs and arms, and faltered. The strike aimed at his back went a lot lower than expected, going between his legs and striking his balls from behind.

In a normal situation, Aenthar would have easily avoided that attack. However, once he got her down, he deemed her to no longer be a threat and stopped paying attention to her altogether to deal with Kerrina. Fighting against the 2 while using his makeshift seikuken had mentally drained him considerably. With one of them out of the picture he relaxed and stopped using mana sense, and only got concerned with Kerrina.

He expected his double strike to put Muriem out of the way for a while, just like he would be after a spar with Zelfron. However, he underestimated Muriem's recovery speed. Everybody did. Since he had put her out of his awareness, he didn't notice her weakly attacking in his back, and thus, received this mortifying attack. His mental weariness made him drop his guard.

-------

Aenthar: 'How could I make such a cliché mistake? How many animes, manga and novels did I see where people made that basic mistake? Damn it, I want to hide right now... The mighty seven element user whose martial arts prowess was on par with 2 fighters got defeated by a strike to the balls from an opponent he though he had defeated.' … “I have become too smug, haven't I? Young overconfident me just received a good lesson...”

Natasha: “Yes, you did. The beginning was great, the battle against those 2 friends of yours was quite impressive. But the conclusion was sloppy, disappointing. Things would have been different if you had used magic attacks. Alas, you were hell bent on defeating them without it.”

Aenthar: “Well, it was too much of a good occasion to fight them to pass...”

Natasha: “If we consider only your battle against those 2, aside from the end you did a great job! But considering it was a team battle, and that you gave priority to your desires instead of the team needs, and barely used magic, you will get low grades this time.”

Aenthar: “It's fine. It's just the first month after all. Better make mistakes now rather than later when it counts more.”

Natasha: “Indeed.”

Just then, Eliane Shane came next to us while wildly grinning.

Eliane: “The way you got taken out was quite funny! I guess it was divine retribution for punching pretty ladies in the face!”

Natasha: “... Indeed. Skewering them with pikes, punching beautiful faces. That's not nice you know? You should be more gentle with girls!”

Aenthar: “... Ok, I'm sorry, I'll be carefull when my opponents are women from now on. Happy?”

Natasha and Eliane: “Very” they said while laughing.

Aenthar: 'Still... That damn Muriem... How come she damage her lover's precious jewels? I'll spank her later for that... Yeah, a fitting punishment for her, hehehe... Ahahahaha, Seung Mina would probably give her a thumb up for that... (See AN**) I should train on those moves... And “sennen goroshi” as well, that would also be a good revenge on Muriem, kekeke...'

-------

When the battle started, Aenthar had used speed enhancement on both him and the swordsman of his team before dashing off towards his targets.

Swordsman: “... Well, at least he gave me a parting present...”

Francisco: 'The warriors and mages are separating? It looks like he won't need my help...'

As Aenthar and Muriem were running towards each other at high speed, the 2 mages from the opposing team were advancing as well. The swordsman was already on his way toward them, and Francisco and Aenthar's other mage teammate followed after him.

Before they could engage with their opponents, everyone's eyes couldn't help but be drawn towards 3 people. Both the students and the teachers couldn't help but be amazed by the skills those young ones displayed.

The lycan girl shooting arrows so accurately from behind her teammate without hurting her, and at a fast pace. The charging boy who casually deflected those shots even though he shouldn't be able to notice when they were fired. The composure of the blond girl, who remained focused on her opponent as arrows were flying just above or next to her head from behind.

-------

Only when the boy and the girl clashed did the others remember where they were and resumed their battle. The mages from the girls' team had to deal with an enhanced swordsman and 2 mages. They used earth magic to make a serie of fortifications around them in a maze like manner and hid inside. Even if the mages could feel each other's presence, they couldn't see the obstacles between them. Since the mages in the mazes were protected, they unleashed an artillery barrage towards the enemy mages that were unprotected.

Within their mazes, they also placed hidden pitfalls, but the swordsman was barely hindered by them thanks to his speed. The other 2 mages outside also unleashed a barrage of spells towards the enemy within the maze, slowly breaking the walls of the maze and redering some traps useless. The swordsman could guess the position of the mages by looking where the spells were aimed. When he got close enough, he made use of his speed to run on the wall and get on top of it, and went straight for them. Seeing him, Francisco and his teammate made a last heavy strike toward their opponents, and the swordsman struck them both shortly after.

-------

As they were done with their opponents, they looked to the side and saw Aenthar handling the 2 girls on close combat on his own.

Swordsman: “The heck? That guy is stronger than me? He should have his hands full with his 7 affinities. Yet he got the time to get that strong in martial arts? Kerrina won't notice me with him around...”

Francsico: “That guy received training from a troll, or so he said... I guess that really was the case...”

Swordman: “You've got to be kidding me!! An elf receiving training from a barbarian? Those guys hate each other!!!”

Francsico: “Who knows? It's not that important anyway. The only thing that matters now is that he is good! And he is giving us a good show.”

-------

Victoria Hallaween: “So he is the one who taught little Muriem how to fight. He is sorely lacking in proper techniques just like her, but he made up for it with his high familiarity with the weapon in his hands. His attacks are wild but effective, making up for his lack of skills with great flexibility. He is well aware that a staff can be used in numerous ways, that's good!”

Brad Crowford: “Forget about his staff mastery, the thing that should catch your attention the most is how the young lad is easily dodging the arrows while keeping his eyes on the opponent in front of him. Not once did he glance toward the lycan girl, yet it's as if he knows what she is doing.”

Victoria: “You're here sir? Why? Bored?”

Brad: “I wanted to see how the rumored 7 elements user would fare against the students of my department... And there he goes against 2 of them in close combat. This is quite the blow dealt to the pride of my department.”

Then Kerrina engaged Aenthar in close range alongside Muriem.

Victoria: “... Wow, he is keeping up... Huhu, look at the way he is defending against the lycan girl. Ganshi would love to see that!!”

Brad: “His movements are still rough, but yes, he would like to see that. I heard he has been trying to get some time with him... That brat is mixing his staff mastery with hand-to-hand combat quite well. He certainly did train a lot.”

Aenthar used shiraha nagashi. (AN: It's very effective!)

Victoria: “THE FUCK??”

Brad: “What in Widarr's name was that? I've never seen that technique before!!”

Victoria: “I've seen Ganshi use it once in a spar against Ulfrick 2 or 3 years ago. A technique to deflect a weapon strike and attack at the same time while barehanded. Ganshi had said that it was a high level technique few people knew about...”

Brad: “Yet he performed it admirably...”

Victoria: “I want to train him.”

Shortly after, Muriem disarmed Aenthar

Victoria: “Not bad... What is she doing? Eh?”

Brad: “Oh! Nicely done! He completely turned the situation around!”

Victoria: “That idiot!! I'll punish her later...”

As Aenthar was about to deal the finishing blow.

Brad: “Why isn' t he react- UGH!!!”

All the guys watching the match were cringing. Even those who didn't like Aenthar.

Victoria: “Ow, that was nasty... Ah, she defeated him. I guess I won't punish her. She is wasted though.”

As Muriem defeated Aenthar, his 2 mages teammates who were spectating froze for a a few seconds. Shuddering, they silently shook their heads as they launched a small barrage of spells on the 2 dazzed girls, knocking them out. The swordman face-palmed with one hand while holding his crotch with the other.

Guys: '...I can't believe it it ended like that...'

Natasha: “STOP! It's Francisco's team victory!!”

Victoria: “... ...”

Brad: “... They avenged him... I guess he got overconfident in the end and dropped his guard too early. He is still young.”

Victoria: “Well, he got a good one on the girl. I should praise her for recovering so fast and saving her companion. Even if it was useless in the end...”

Brad: “Still, I wanted to see him use magic... I guess that will be for another time. Though it was luck, I'm happy he was defeated by my students. It reduce the strength of the blow to our pride.”

Victoria: “Not really, no.”

Brad: “... sigh...”

-------

Later, on Aenthar's side...

The results of the battle weren't that great for me, especially magic-wise. However, I left a big impression on everyone thanks to my close combat skills. Muriem was given the nickname “treasure hunter” by the guys, while Kerrina was called “the sapphire huntress” thanks to her pretty eyes and awesome bow skills. However, as I left the academy, I noticed some people glaring at me with a different glint in their eyes than before, and it made me unconfortable. I decided to be more careful in the future.

The night after the battle I had already calmed down a lot. It no longer bothered me much that Muriem struck my nuts, as it wasn't intentional. She had apologised enough on the way, and she said she would help me make sure it still worked well. I happily took her on that offer that night, and the 3 of us confimed everything was working just fine. Well, in the end I did spank her a bit for fun, and she didn't seem to hate it at all. We didn't have to hold back since for 2 days after the team battle it would be free time.

With everything that happened this past month, I got quite used to the life in the capital and the academy, and I was able to alter my personal schedule to work on alchemy and smithing. After all, I did take a craftman's house for this very reason. I wanted to make products that would catch the attention of those 2 females aquitances of mine. If they liked it, considering their families I had no doubt I would rip a nice profit. I should also make something else for my father. He already has my stinky products, but he doesn't like to produce them.

-To cast a spell you have to draw 1 (or more) element(s) from your mana pool and weave it into the right patern. People can only draw elements for hich they have an affinity. Casting a spell mixing 2 elements or more is a lot more difficult than casting a spell with a single element. Some elements have bad chemistry, making it even harder to mix them.
