CHAPTER 2: Magic?!

CHAPTER 2: Magic?!

She cannot count how many days have passed. But at least, she now knows what's going on, where she is, and who the two voices she heard before belong to.

She, Roxanne Anderson, was an orphan from Earth and a child star before quitting the entertainment circle due to some circumstances. She then worked in a bar at the age of 18 as a singer, eventually being taken in by her treacherous ex-best friend, Elara. Now, she has been reincarnated.

Yes, she's been reincarnated and is now an unborn baby inside the stomach of the woman whose voice she heard, while the god-like man is her father.

As she continued to watch the screen, she knew this wasn't the Earth she came from. The people here looked different, their features somehow sharper, more angular, and their skin tones varied in ways she'd never seen before.

The places her mother visited were equally alien. Lush forests with trees that towered over everything, shimmering rivers that flowed with an almost otherworldly luminescence, and villages built into the sides of towering mountains. It was a world of vibrant colors and breathtaking landscapes, unlike anything she had ever known.

Her mother's name is Cadence, which means rhythmic, a fitting name for a woman who moved with a grace and fluidity that seemed almost supernatural.

And her father's name is Apollo, yes, like Apollo from Greek mythology. He was tall and handsome, with long golden hair and piercing green eyes that seemed to hold the wisdom of ages.

She couldn't help but wonder if he was some kind of god, but that was impossible, wasn't it?

Suddenly, a shout from the screen caught her attention. It was an old man, or perhaps the village chief.

The village chief was wearing shabby clothes and, coupled with his old, white hair, he looked like a beggar. According to the previous screen record, his name is Wallo.

“What’s wrong, chief?” her mom’s voice asked.

The village chief breathed heavily before answering, “The tide beast is invading our village again! We need you and your husband’s help!”

Unlike the anxious chief, her mother calmly went out.

As her mother walked, many villagers breathed a sigh of relief, as if she were a powerful savior.

“Finally! The mage finally arrived!”

“Our village will be safe now!”

“I’m really thankful to that couple for always saving our village.”

“Yes! They are blessings from the Gods to us!”

Is her mother really that powerful?

As they arrived, she finally saw the beast tide they were talking about.

What the heck?!

Is this a beast tide?I n front of the village entrance, there were many wolves, vicious wolves to be exact.

Their fur was a dark, almost black, color, and their eyes glowed with a malevolent red light. They snarled and bared their teeth, their bodies tense with predatory energy.

“All of you retreat!” her mom shouted to the villagers. “I will be the one who handles this beast tide. Evacuate your families immediately.”

After the men from the village who were defending it just now disappeared, her mom waved her hand, “Ice shards!”

Suddenly, many ice shards appeared as if by magic, forming a wall and attacking the wolves from various directions at a rapid speed, targeting their eyes, their weakness.

The shards were sharp and jagged, capable of piercing flesh or shattering objects. They flew through the air with a whistling sound, leaving trails of frost in their wake.

How come? Is this magic? So she’s been reincarnated in a world of magic?

What the heck?!

Yes, she knew she had been reincarnated in another world, but she didn’t expect it to be a fantasy world where magic is real.

It was different from the Earth where magic is considered fiction and imagination.

And is that an ice spell? Her mom is really cool and powerful.

Will she become like her in the future? She hopes so.

After seeing their companions die, the wolves were filled with hatred and attacked her mom at close range.

She thought her mother would be scared, but instead, she felt her mom smiling like a devil on a battlefield, “Freeze!”

The wolves who were about to attack her mom froze in an instant, and a cold air erupted from her mother’s hands. She’s truly like a goddess of war.

Roxanne thought the battle would end there, but another tide of wolves appeared, several times larger than the earlier beast tide.

Even so, Cadence is still calm as if this other beast tide was just an ant that she is about to trample.

And then again, she moved her hands and was about to wave them when a gust of air appeared beside her and this was none other than her husband.

Roxanne’s attention was captured again by her father, who suddenly arrived.

Long golden hair and green eyes. Even the shabby clothes he wore seemed like holy items, coupled with the old flute in his hand. She wondered if her dad was some kind of god, but that was impossible.

“Leave everything to me now, Cadence.” her dad said.

Apollo took the flute to his lips and sang a song that was like an angel’s lullaby to many.

“Hoo-hoo-hoo…” the flute continued to sound.

It was like a gentle breeze whispering through the air and trees. Like a father’s embrace surrounding the whole area, calming and relaxing your minds.

And just like that, all the wolves lost consciousness and fell down one by one to the sound of the flute.

“Can you stop now?” her mom said, sounding irritated because her dad had interrupted her. “I was about to show off my power to our unborn child, but you disturbed me!”

In anger, her mom threw an ice shard at her father, but he dodged it as if it were air and came to her mother.

Apollo hugged his wife’s waist, calming her down, but she became more and more angry, and the air grew colder, like ice.

“You will sleep outside the house tonight!” her mom said and then walked away angrily.

Through the screen, she sighed and watched as her mother walked away and her father pouted and begged pitifully, like a puppy abandoned by its owner.

And yes, her father is a wife-controlled.

......................

Seconds, minutes, hours, and days passed. As her mom’s stomach grew bigger and bigger, she became more and more irritable, and Apollo suffered from this.

Roxanne sighed as she watched her father look embarrassed with many leaves and dirt on his body.

Yes, her mother asked her father to plant many flowers on their balcony just because she hated the plain balcony and wanted it to become colorful.

“Wife, is this okay?” her father asked, scratching his head.

Sometimes, Roxanne wondered. Both of her parents look like they came from wealthy families, or maybe even aristocrats, so why would they live in this remote village with a shabby house?

Did the two of them run away together?

Suddenly, a silence filled the air, so profound that even the crawling bugs could be heard.

“Wife…" her dad said. “Do you regret running away with me? Like, do you regret living in this house?”

Running away?! So it’s true, her parents really ran away together.

She felt her mother’s emotions as if it were a volcano erupting, “What the hell are you talking about?! You know that I never regret loving you, nor do I regret that I came with you here. Yes, we lived in this shabby house different from a luxurious mansion or a magnificent bedroom, but just being with you is enough."

The hesitation on his father’s face disappeared, and it now brightened like the sun, making his handsome face even more handsome.

Like a thorn in his heart that was finally erased, “I love you, my wife.”

The cheerful father is back again.

Her mom rolled her eyes and slapped her father’s shoulder, “Go back to the field now! Plant many flowers there!”

Her father’s brightened face changed in an instant. The slave father is back again.

So this is the feeling of having a real family, a family filled with care and love without any material things.

And Roxanne hopes that this will last forever.

She watched as her parents continued their daily routine, a dance of love and frustration, of power and submission. She saw the strength in her mother's magic, the gentleness in her father's music, and the deep, unwavering love that bound them together. She saw a world where magic was real. And she knew, in her heart, that she had come home.

.....................

"Aghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!" a scream echoed through the room.

Yes, that was her mom's voice.

The midwife looked anxiously at the door where her father stood, her face grim as she listened to her mom's screams. "Inhale, exhale. Just take a few more breaths, and the baby will finally be out!"

"Aghhhhh!!!!!" her mom continued to scream.

It was as if her mom was being tortured, not giving birth.

"If anything happens to my wife, I swear, you old woman, I will torture you to death, as well as your drunkard husband!" her dad shouted.

Her mom heard this and became irritated again, "You bastard! I will never give birth to a child for you again! It's all your fault! Aghhhh! It hurts!"

The middle-aged midwife finally saw the head of the child. She could finally breathe a sigh of relief because she would not be executed by the tyrant husband of this woman.

"Push!" the midwife shouted.

The screen from Roxanne's eyes suddenly became more and more blurred and the void in front of her started to shake as if an earthquake occurred.

Unlike before, she heard their screams and voices by the screen. Now, she could finally hear the shout of the midwife by her real ear.

"Is my baby finally out?" she heard her father's excitement as he was trying to open the door to see her head coming out.

"Don't come in! You will just disturb your wife!" the midwife said.

Apollo looked angrily at the midwife. He swear, after his child came out, he will find many ways to torture this old woman!

He really wanted to see his child now, to see its gender and angelic face.

Her mom continued to push her out even if her strength was at the limit, "Just a few more, huff, my huff, I can finally see my child!"

So this is the feeling of the parents when they can finally see their child for the first time, their excitement makes Roxanne feel more like she belongs.

After a few more breaths, loud screams, the midwife's reminders, and her father's anxious voice from the door, finally...

After watching the screen for so long, she could finally feel the outside world!
