My name is Matsuo Mamoru, I was unemployed, uneducated… well i did finish school,... unloved blight on this world, or so I thought. Shortly after the passing of my parents i became obsessed with a new MMOrpg developed in the west called Aegis of Eternus, it was a first of its kind MMO where you could really feel like a hero, every cave, every city, every NPC had a secret and the faster you found it the faster something else would replace it.
See Aegis of Eternus was the world's first A.I maintained MMO, there was always a set limit on how many quests, jobs, and classes were in the world, and once a certain threshold was reached that feature would disappear. Even classes and Job’s over a certain limit would disappear and be replaced with similar content but not exactly the same, so there were no guides on how to accurately do anything in Aegis of Eternus, there was no Wiki, there were no strategy guides, it was like a real living breathing world.
I started Aegis of Eternus in its Alpha state and quickly became one of the most skilled and knowledgeable players, quickly finding and completing high value quests that rose my accounts value through the roof, at first i sold the gear i acquired to pay my rent, but after a while i decided it would be better to stream my attempts. I quickly made an account on a well known streaming service and began streaming the content to hundreds of people. Many who had no access to the game in the first place.
However one day, out of jealousy of my skills, another streamer reported my stream for 2 seconds of adult content that appeared on my monitor causing me to be banned. It didn’t matter, I had saved up enough to pay my rent for at least a few years, and i had grown a sizable guild that I could use to farm resources or so I thought. Shortly after, my guild mates left the guild and formed a new guild. Of course I applied elsewhere but the stench of my ban wafted over me and no one would take me. Finally i decided to play solo, but Aegis of Eternus is not a game you can simply play solo and after 7 months of grinding I hadn’t reached half the level of completion i was capable of before.
Finally after a year of grinding, I figured everyone had forgotten about me, and so applied to a well known guild called “[Broken Crown]” at first everything went well, and they accepted my application, but after a week of silence I was greeted with my final rejection. See in the time i had applied to the time i was rejected “[Broken Crown]” had found a raid called the “[End of the World]” raids in Aegis of Eternus are unique in that they are filled with monsters and often take months to clear, however the first group to clear a raid is rewarded with a extremely powerful item called a “[Artifact]” from my time as a guild leader i had several, and each allowed for extreme expressions of power. My own personal [Artifact], a staff known as [EngilsblóðDragoneye] is an extremely powerful staff that allows the user to cast extremely powerful [Corrupted Magic] or God tier magic. [Corrupted Magic] are spells that take days to prepare but can fundamentally change the game world, using them can cause any number of outcomes, even offensive magic, a property not seen in most classes in [Aegis of Eternus].
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
[Broken Crown] had monopolized the raid and was keeping it from being cleared so that they could farm legendary drops from the bosses leading up to the final room. They were a well known PvP and PvE guild, and so had enough players to defend the cavern that led to the raid, as well as send players to clear boss after boss.
However because of this, they refused to recruit any more players to their guild, and so I was once again… alone.
I applied around to more guilds, but the warfare in the cavern became such a big deal that big guilds became suspicious of any new members, believing they were spies from Broken Crown, while smaller clans were not to my liking. But one day while I was trolling the forums, I noticed a relatively unnoticed article, titled only [Back door to the end of the world, Aegis of The Eternus, Light Bringer.]
When I clicked on the article a full guide on how to enter the raid known as [The End of the World] was written out in perfect Japanese, on a western based game like this, it was extremely uncommon as the total player base of Japanese players was less than a 1000. In a fit of ecstasy i flew to the entrance of the cavern, pulled my network cable and entered the cavern, and after 4 full days of grinding, I finally reached the final boss room.
The final boss was nothing special, as most classes, Aegis of Eternus, can’t deal direct magic damage, almost none have direct resistance to magic, and with a single cast of [Corrupt Magic] I wiped away the boss.
In that moment, unknown to myself, something on Earth fundamentally changed, beams of light with no discernible origin descended on the planet, people all across the planet disappeared and cities were destroyed and replaced with sprawling fields and forests. Finally the light reached me, and so , this is where our story begins.
