PROLOGUE- The story before an Adventure

Alex Vault was the middle child, of a middle class family. Most people would assume he was average as well. Wrong. His family was average, didn't mean he was average.
He was a genius, but not in the way you would expect. He wasn't great academically or very athletic However he had a special talent to steal. He was able to steal your watch, wallet, and phone in under ten seconds without you noticing. Probably about now, you might be thinking "its a crime to steal". Yes his ability was useless but that not what he did. He did steal mostly from his brother's who were older and had money. When he needed money to be whimsical with.
He also had an eidetic memory which was wasted on him. Since he never read anything except the bare minimum to get a "B". Which was always stressed on by his counselors. Since they thought he had untapped potential. He was lazy so he never tried study unless it interested him. Which stealing did.
He always wondered what he wanted from life, he always felt bored and sometimes thought to end it all but quickly dismissed it. Mostly due to his fear of pain. Unless he had a gun or a poison. Which would be painless death. Other than that he didn't want to die any other way. Oh by the way he isn't suicidal, just extremely bored. When he found the new virtual reality game "Royal Road" would be release he was overjoyed.
Even though his family was particularly well off, they could still provide for him. As you might now know, Alex is whimsical, which was not a trait liked by his parents. Since he sometimes gambled away money by using his stealth skills to sneak in to casinos.
So when he preordered "Royal road" using his parent's credit card. It was the last straw for them in which case they kicked him out. Of course they weren't heartless and found him an apartment to live in. Which wasn't far away so they could come and check on him every once in a while. They also planned to send enough money to just barely cover his living expenses and college tuition. In which case restraining Alex's whimsicalness and making him a responsible adult.

Of course if he still wanted to be whimsical. He would have to get a job which case his parents hoped would teach him the value of money.
Alex also knew this and was pretty pissed. When he moved into the apartment. The first thing he had done was get the capsule installed in his bedroom. He wanted to just jump in and start playing, but he knew he couldn't since he had to look for a job so he could pay the monthly subscription. The first month was paid for courtesy of his parent's........credit card. So he planned to play after getting a job. As much as he hated it. It was necessity to start playing. He didn't have to worry about college since he only had couple of courses. Which would start until after summer. So he had a lot of free time. He went to the cafe next to his apartment. Which was a 5 minute walk. So he could use the internet. Since it wouldn't be ready until tomorrow. He found a place to sit and started the job hunt. After an hour of looking for jobs and trying to find a good one. With enough to cover the subscription and some play money. There was no luck. He hoped he would find one quickly and be set. He was about to go home.....
Until the waitress who came to take his coffee cup. Which he ordered previously. Noticed his expression and saw the job ads on his laptop, mentioned the job opening in the cafe. He felt extremely grateful to the waitress and went to question, the owner who was behind the counter. Of course not before thanking the waitress, which was surprised due to his abrupt thankfulness. He also found out her name which was Nina. When he asked the owner, he automatically received the job since they were understaffed and the work hours were great. The pay was enough to cover his subscription. Excited he went home to login to his capsule......
