The cracked sky

The cracked sky

The sky above Earth no longer reflected the calming blue hue it once held. A massive crack split the horizon, radiating a violet glow like an open wound spreading slowly, threatening to devour everything.

Below it, the great cities that once stood as symbols of human civilization's grandeur were now reduced to piles of rubble. Streets were littered with debris, the air choked with dust, and the echoes of collapsing buildings reverberated endlessly.

A figure darted through the streets, narrowly avoiding falling debris. His strong frame moved with agility, though his face betrayed deep exhaustion. He paused briefly, glancing back at a woman struggling to keep up, her breaths labored.

"Arka, wait! I can't—" the woman's voice was cut off by a coughing fit, her lungs clogged with dust from the ruins.

Arka turned, his sharp eyes filled with concern as they met hers. "You have to keep moving, Sari. We don't have time!"

Sari, her hair disheveled and wild, tried to steady her breath. "Arka… what's the point?" she murmured, her gaze drifting to the fractured sky. "It's all over."

Arka frowned, stepping closer. He grasped her shoulders firmly, his eyes blazing with determination. "If this is the end, then we'll fight until the very last moment. You're not alone, understand?"

Sari fell silent, her weary eyes locking onto his resolute gaze. Slowly, she nodded, though her body screamed for rest.

"Come on," Arka said, pulling her along as they continued to run.

Their steps carried them to an open expanse where the skeletal remains of skyscrapers loomed like shattered corpses. Above, the violet light from the sky's crack spread further, unleashing bolts of lightning that obliterated everything they touched.

Sari froze, her eyes fixed on the growing fissure. The rumbling grew louder, like the sound of hundreds of shattering mirrors echoing all at once.

"Arka… that…" she whispered, her voice trembling.

Arka glanced upward and saw golden light spilling from the crack. He clenched his teeth, realizing there was nowhere to hide.

"Sari, here!" he shouted, pulling her into his arms.

The light grew brighter, blinding them. Arka shielded Sari with his body, but nothing could stop the wave of energy that surged toward them. In mere seconds, their world turned to blinding white, erasing everything.

There was no sound. No Earth.

When Arka opened his eyes, the first thing he noticed was the air—it felt different. Fresh, like the scent of a forest at dawn, yet heavier. He lay on a bed of soft grass that glowed faintly with hues of green and blue.

Sitting up slowly, he examined his body, which felt strange yet intact. As he scanned his surroundings, he found himself in an endless field of glowing plants, as though this world had never known darkness.

The sky above held two suns: one large and golden, the other smaller and tinged with orange.

Arka rose to his feet, trying to make sense of where he was. "What is this…?" he murmured.

"Arka?" a weak voice called from behind him.

He turned quickly to see Sari lying nearby, her eyes half-open. Arka knelt beside her, helping her sit up.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Sari nodded faintly, though confusion lingered on her face. "Where are we? What… happened?"

"I don’t know," Arka replied, his eyes scanning their surroundings. "But this is definitely not Earth."

Sari gazed up at the sky, her eyes widening as she noticed the two suns hanging in the horizon. "This… isn’t real."

"But we’re here," Arka said flatly. "We need to figure out what’s going on and how to survive."

As they wandered through the glowing field, Arka began to notice something strange. His body felt lighter but also stronger, as though the gravity of this world was less intense.

He clenched his fist, and his muscles responded with a surprising surge of power. "My body… it’s not the same," he muttered.

Sari raised an eyebrow at him. "What do you mean?"

Arka looked down, trying to comprehend the sensation. "I feel stronger. Somehow, my body feels… different."

Sari felt it too, though she hesitated to voice it. When she reached out to touch a glowing leaf nearby, a subtle energy buzzed at her fingertips. Yet, she kept quiet, unwilling to discuss something she didn’t yet understand.

After hours of aimless wandering, they found shelter beneath a massive tree whose roots twisted into a natural cave-like structure.

Night fell, but the world remained aglow. Two large moons appeared in the sky, replacing the suns. One glowed a soft blue, while the other shone a brilliant silver.

Arka built a small fire with dry branches they’d collected, sitting close to the warmth while Sari leaned wearily against the tree’s roots.

"Do you think… there are others here?" Sari asked quietly.

Arka stared into the fire, his expression grim. "Maybe. But we can’t count on that. We have to survive on our own, at least for now."

Sari didn’t reply, her gaze fixed on the alien sky, filled with both fear and wonder.

In the distance, a faint rustling broke the silence—something moving through the underbrush. Arka stood immediately, gripping a sharpened wooden stick he had fashioned earlier.

"There’s something out there," he whispered.

Sari looked at him, her eyes wide, but she said nothing. Together, they stared toward the source of the noise, waiting in tense silence.

Ands lowly, the secrets of this world began to reveal themselves.
