Chapter 5: How it feels to be a Mage

Chapter 5: How it feels to be a Mage

Trino’s senses seeped in, manifesting the world of Ulteria. It was different this time. The view changed. He was still leaning on the small withered tree, yet there was a world of difference in how he perceived the surroundings.

Dense clouds in the sky, which were barely rainbow-like in color before, now had vividness. The silver lining was brighter than before, while it was gradienting into violet followed by indigo, blue, green, and all the way to its other end where it was red.

“This is a mana cloud.” The words slipped from his mouth. His hands were shivering. The sight of fluffy clouds, some white, some blue, while others messa color blue. (messa->mess of)

He had heard Vish say in an interview, "The world Mage’s play in is completely different from other classes.”

And Trino now knew what he meant at that time.

Along with the clouds, the sky itself was turned ambient, filled with different colors ranging from the distance from the horizon. It looked odd in the middle of the day but was still beautiful.

Trino straightened his posture and stood up, “I need to move out from here, as soon as possible.”

Observing the cliff one more time, he concurred, “Hugo knew about this place and the Sage fruit. It meant he was here. But he returned because Unaath might have warned him. It was hard for me to scale the cliff but with Hugo’s ability. It’s not that tough, not to mention his level.”

Trino walked to the side from where he climbed up and stated another strong point, “The monster might’ve been a problem for him, but he is a beastmaster. It could’ve been easier to spoof them. And the fact Unaath knew I came here on behalf of some human, also implies Hugo was here.”

After blabbering out a whole lot of logical reasoning, Trino froze in his place as realization struck him like a train.

He wasn’t this speculative before.

He had the same epiphany when a person dreaming realizes that the superpower they have or the scenario they are living in is not real but a dream, and yet still they stay in their sleep. Experiencing it all the same, despite the revelation. Trino once again checked his stats, still not believing his reasoning capabilities.

“Is this an effect of the intelligence stat?” Trino was in disbelief and once again failed to notice his increased racial index and its effect on his health. The answer was both yes and no. It was the wholesome effect of the Fruit of Wisdom. If one tries to figure out what intelligence is. Wasn’t it a person’s ability to speculate the given circumstances with their prior experience on the given problem with parameters and variables available? All the while applying permutations and combinations to them to find an optimal solution for the same.

“But, if only intelligence stat could make any person this hyper-functional, then every Mage should be an unbeatable existence.” As Trino doubted, it wasn’t the case. The possibility of solving a problem efficiently also relies on the parameters and variables given and how one perceives them. The Fruit of Wisdom provided Trino with insight and concentration, which enhanced his senses while raising his observation skills to another degree.

“Maybe it’s because of the intelligence combined with other hidden stats' effect that fruit provides.”

The nail in the coffin was the mana affinity. Ulteria’s fundamental force was mana on which the worlds in it run. Unlike the real world, Trino could now subconsciously understand the environmental variables. Overall it made him a freak. Intelligence was the processing power, while the hidden stats turned his senses into high-end peripherals.

“I really want to know what other mysterious things this world has to offer.” Exhilarated, as he said those words, his eyes sunk in with sadness. He didn’t have time to fully explore it.

He shook his head and resolved, “I will make the best of what I have.”

The assassin calmed his nerves and reeled in all the turbulence he was causing. It took him five minutes to do so. He might not be a mage with lots of spells, but his mana was off the charts. The beast and monsters that ignored him until now would jump on him like he was a bag of honey to a bear.

With steady steps, Trino approached the other side of the hill. Unlike the side from where he climbed up, this one had a 90-degree elevation. It was a cliff in the true sense.

“If I climb down the other side of the hill, Hugo might be waiting for me,” He took out an eight-meter-long rope from his inventory.

“It’s better to leave him waiting. If I die falling, then I die.” He already gained something from this trip. If Hugo caught him, there might be a slight chance that Hugo would make him a slave.

He cut the rope in two halves, then switched one of his daggers with another one that had low durability, with a big one from his inventory. This one was almost like a short sword but wasn’t one. The durability of the blade was higher than the dagger he previously had. He checked the info on the weapons, just to be sure.

He tied the rope’s one end to Mini and the other to his wrist and repeated the same for Bluntedge. Rolling the hanging ropes around his hands, Trino was ready to dive.

The Cliff was full of roots popping out along with some bushes. Rocks were bulging, which could be used as a foothold but could be in no way used as steps to climb up. Because the minimum distance between them was 4m.
