Chapter 2 - The Loveless Gang Cometh, Part 2

Chapter 2 - The Loveless Gang Cometh, Part 2

The entire day just ended in a snap. I mean, classes are supposed to be quite literally in snail time, but time just passed by quickly again. Maybe my head is still quite loose or something, which is concerning.

I wouldn’t want to experience that again.

But I suppose, time just flies here. Kudos to the professors, that probably means that they’re doing something right with their profession. I should give them their due some other time.

As much as all of that is interesting, I’m still stuck with what happened earlier at lunch. I mean, that Grant dude is madly in love with Raina and it explains so much. That creep was smiling after Raina held his shoulder, I reckon that he enjoyed that entire moment too.

I expected to have some conflict here, but love is not one of the reasons I’ve thought of.

I don’t really know how to feel about that.

Whatever, it’s not any of my business anymore, hopefully.

Nevertheless, I find myself walking through the college halls yet again. Raina is probably quite busy somewhere with president duties, so I guess I’ll have to hang around until she’s done. I’m not expecting us to go home together, but on the off-chance that she’s expecting me to wait for her, I should probably just go and wait for her. Imagining her going home on her own and barging in my room out of anger because I left her alone is not something that I want to experience again. If her anger towards that Grant guy proves anything, it’s that she can drop the elegant glow she had when her temper breaks.

“Hey there, newbie.”

I didn’t actually hear them the first time, but when I turned around, I saw two guys standing there and looking down on me. Two more seniors, I suppose I should’ve expected them to be taller, but it’s a bit annoying to see a lot of people taller than me. Not that I have a complex with my height.

“Uh, can I help you?” I ask.

“No, but maybe we could help you,” the taller one says.

“How in the hell would he know what we’re talking about?” the shorter one asks him.

“It’s a threat or something,” the taller one replied.

“Excuse me?” I interject.

“This doesn’t concern you,” the shorter one told me, much to my confusion since they were the ones that came after me.

“Let’s start over,” the taller one says, before turning their attention back to me and asking me, “You need to come with us.”

I have no idea what’s going on here, but something tells me that this is something that would end badly for me. Everyone knows that strangers that tell you to come with them only mean horrible things for the victim. It’s in every story I’ve ever read and it usually ends with someone getting beaten up, kidnapped, or killed.

“And what if I refuse?” I ask, bracing myself for a possible attack.

“Ah… we don’t know,” the taller guy says.

“Huh?”

“What do we do?” the taller guy asks his friend.

“I don’t know, the boss didn’t say what we should do if he refused!” the shorter guy says.

“Should we ask him?” the taller guy points at me.

“Might as well,” says the shorter one.

Seriously, what’s going on here? Are they being serious?

“Hey, newbie. What would you do in this situation? We’re not really familiar with any of this,” the shorter one asks.

They were serious.

What kind of idiots are these two? They might as well just let me go away at this point, doesn’t seem like it’s too far of a stretch to tell ‘em that. But, I simply shook my head and placed my palm in my face out of sheer disbelief.

“First and foremost, introduce yourselves,” I told them.

“Oh, sure. My name is Connie,” the taller one says.

“And I’m Joseph! It’s a pleasure to meet you,” the shorter one says.

Wait, why in the hell would you introduce yourselves to me? This is the biggest incriminating evidence, you imbeciles! This is tantamount to confessing your crimes before you could even commit them. If I were whoever your boss is, I would freaking fire you for this mistake alone! I mean, be better bad guys for goodness sake!

It hasn’t been a long conversation, but they’re exhausting me to no end already.

“Okay,” I sighed, and then asked them, “Who asked you to come and get me?”

“Oh, we can’t tell you that,” Connie says.

“Why not?”

“Grant specifically told us not to tell you who he is if you asked,” Joseph says.

“Correct! That’s Grant’s only command, other than taking you to him,” Connie says.

Seriously, these two…

They didn’t even realize it, I presume.

“And what does Grant want with me?” I ask them..

“By the heavens!” Connie shrieks in fear.

“How did you know that?!” Joseph asks in surprise.

“Are you a telepath or something?!” Connie asks.

“What? You dimwits are the ones that told me!” I scream at them.

“No, we didn’t!” the two vehemently deny.

These two are starting to really piss me off.

These two are not the type of underlings that you’d want to have when you’re trying to plan something devious. It’s seriously frustrating to be in the presence of next-level tomfoolery, I just can’t help but shake my head and hit my forehead with my palm repeatedly. This might be their first time doing this and I guess everyone always had their first, but I could’ve seriously lived a better life without being exposed to these two buffoons.

“Enough with the mind games, smart guy. Can you just please come with us and get all of these over with? We don’t want Grant to take away our lunches for the next two weeks!” Connie pleads.

“Please!” Joseph also pleads.

I don’t know if it’s pity or if it’s simply the fact that I want to get this all over with already, but I acquiesced. Seeing those two glow in delight after hearing me agree to their terms, I can’t help but feel warm inside, even if these two are as stupid as bricks.

“That’s wonderful!” Connie sings in delight.

“Now, can we please put these zip ties on your hands behind your back?” Joseph asks.

“What? Why would I do that?”

“Because we can’t bring you to Grant without being bound and tied up,” Connie says.

“What if I refuse?”

“What?!” Connor shrieks.

“W-we… we don’t know…” Joseph shakes in fear.

“Oh, for the love of… fine!”

I give up, there’s literally no hope for these two. I can tell that we will be repeating the same beats if I let this go on any longer and that would just waste my time. I’ll just go see what this is all about and be done with it. Hopefully, given the combined brain cells these two dimwits share, I don’t doubt that the main man Grant would be any different.

After an uncomfortable minute of them trying to tie my wrists behind my back, these two bumbling burnouts brought me to the back of the gymnasium, where their ringleader, Grant, was standing with a particular face. It’s either he’s annoyed that his gobbledy-goons were late or he’s trying to suppress the urge to expel his bowels. Either way, he’s very irritated.

“It’s about time you two got here. I was beginning to think that none of you would make it back here,” Grant proclaims.

“We delivered him as promised!” Connie proudly states.

“I can see that. Good work, you two; I suppose that your minute brains could do some good once in a while,” Grant congratulates them.

“Thank you so much,” Joseph gleefully says, as the two cry tears of Joy.

What am I watching?

“Excuse me,” I interject to gain their attention. “While it’s lovely to see your friendship with these two wobble-brained simpletons blossom, can anyone kindly tell me what all of this is about? I even agreed to be tied up just to get this over with.”

Grant makes an interesting expression and tells the two, “Make sure no one gets in here, understand?”

“You got it, boss man!” the two announced and immediately got out of our way.

After a few seconds of silence when they disappeared, Grant turns around and asks, “They told you that I sent them to get you, didn’t they?”

“Without prompting,” I said.

“Those dunes!” he turned his back and growled under his breath. He then turned his attention back to me and says, “Nevermind that, I have a bone to pick with you, homewrecker!”

“H-homewrecker?”
