Memories

A voice emanated from somewhere. “Where, where am I? Ugh… staying awake… too.. har..d…” And like that, the voice faded back into the void.

From the border of void, a faceless boy manifested. The voice felt that they knew this person, yet it could not remember why. When it thought about others it could have known, no faces came with them.

The boy held a black box decorated with gold faces of various beasts and runes the voice recognized but did not understand why. The boy ran holding the ornate box close to his chest to not drop it in his sprint.

Which was a good idea, since he stumbled as he went down stairs leading to a town. He managed to catch himself at the base of the stairs, and a woman the voice felt it should know very well called out to the boy.

“********, off to see Lord Oceanos again?” She waved at the boy. (Why can I not hear the boy’s name, or see anyone’s faces?) While the voice was lost in those thoughts the boy continued to run through the city filled with faceless people it felt it should recognize, but could not.

“ ********, what’s the rush? Lord Oceanus won’t go anywhere! Haha!” A plump man teased the boy heartedly.

“I’ve got a gift for them!” the boy beamed waving the precious box around, despite having no facial features to speak of, the voice could feel the joy radiating from the boy’s face. IT felt a strange pain from the unrestrained joy the boy radiated. Why?

“Oh, then here’s a gift from me!” A titan of a man threw a red almost circular thing towards the boy, who caught it midair and bit it. Oh, it was food.

“Hehehe, Thanks ++++++!” With an invisible smile the boy turned around to continue his sprint to, where he was going.

These people were a lively bunch, and the voice felt that it was already attached to them, from a long time ago.

The boy got to another set of stairs, much larger than the first, they led to water instead of land. As the boy went down the stairs the voice began to feel that something was amiss. The boy jumped onto a boat once he was a few steps from the bottom, causing an annoyed cat to jump out onto the stairs.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Oh, sorry about that little one, here have a little treat.” the boy pulled out a fish and gave it to the cat. Instinctually the voice knew that was food before the cat took a bite out of it. But why did it not know the red thing was food?

Now on the boat, the voice noticed that there was light pillar of seven colors coming out of the water a decent distance from where they were. And as they drew closer the voice found itself wanting to turn around more and more. Then it saw the floating wall less building of white stone, supported by four massive pillars each the circumference of a house. In the center, was a raised platform upon which an altar stood, on ti was a round jewel that looked like the pillar of light outside took a solid form. From it the seven colored pillar of light flowed out as if water

The boy took a step inside, and for what was less than an instant a sickly red eye popped into existence at the top of the box with a disgusting spark of darkness, before being crushed by nothing. The boy took no notice of it, and continued to walk towards the altar. The voice, however, knew that that was something horrible and began to scream for the boy to leave, run get that thing out of there, toss it, do something! The boy could not hear it. And continued to walk forward.

Halfway to the altar a regal androgynous voice surrounds them.

“You’ve kept me waiting ********.” The new voice rang out. Then as if on command, the water around the temple spouted out, creating walls of water. From the back of the temple the water split apart, from which a massive feathered serpent  came in and coiled around the altar.

The serpent’s belly constantly changed colors, it was as if it was made of the beam of light. The scales on its back refused to lose to the lustrousness of the gems and crystals that covered a lot of it. Its eyes were gold, and on its head was a crest of multicolored feathers. The outside of the temple was enveloped in giant wings that looked to be made of stained glass.

Its face curled into a smile as it stared at the boy.

“What stories have you brought me this time, ********? Or is today for play, perhaps exploration?” Despite the regality and massive size of the serpent’s voice, The Voice felt that this was a being it loved with all its heart.

“I brought you a gift!” as the boy lifted the box the voice remembered, THE BOX!

(NO!!) The voice’s cry went unheard. And as if to mock it, the eye on the box popped into existence once more followed with a torrent of faces made of a black mist all cackling. Then,a  bright light filled the voice’s vision and its eyes opened for the second time.

It threw the arms it now knew it had forward and shattered the void’s shell filling it with water. It roared filled with a deep sadness it did not understand. All the sea creatures that had seen its birth cowered for a moment despite it being only a newborn.

A dragon had been born.
