Spoils of war

Spoils of war

Having confirmed he now had complete control over Judas, Raphael first asked about Mara's identity and only then about what made him the the facto master of Judas.

It turned out that control magic was a power derived from the light God Dyēus's and dark God Dʰéǵʰōm's powers permeating throughout the world and merging into control magic.

Anyone who proved themselves worthy would automatically gain this power, but to use it and expand upon it, every one had to explore and experiment earnestly on their own.

As for what determines the value of the person, no one knew for sure.

Only some speculations had ever been made, such as a strong will or rich life experience, but every one of them had been disproven by at least a living example.

Or rather, that's what is said among the few upper echelons that know about it.

Knowing all this, Raphael was scared.

Not because control magic was a threat to him as it has already proven so by Judas, but it highlighted Raphael's biggest shortcoming and made him realize what danger he had been constantly in up until now.

As someone with an absolute will, unknowingly being led to an undesirable result was the most scary thing.

Control magic may be useless against him, but the old missionary's words were not.

But it wasn't such a big problem anymore, as being on guard would greatly diminish the dangerousness of this kind of threat, even of not completely neutralize it.

From this it could be seen how the obviously dismissed by the church missionary was superior to this supposed underground ruler mage profession.

Of course, only a few of them would choose to rule really anyone for that matter, as it would easily attract the attention of other control mages.

In theory a meeting between control mages was a hugely beneficial matter for all parties, as even if the mages were not at the same level, the higher level ones could still broaden their horizons for the breadth of control magic hadn't been scoured even by all the control mages in history added together.

The problem though was that being in the presence of someone capable of making you a slave merely by looking at you isn't really a recipe for a successful and peaceful meeting.

But high level mages would still seek out immature ones as the benefit of gaining a glimpse into a branch they hadn't ever considered far outweighed for them the possibility of the low level mage having expanded and matured that path to such a level that they could threaten them.

All of this though was Judas' history, having nothing to do with Raphael.

If it wasn't for the fact that a dumb faced person like Judas was easily synonym with a inexperienced and gone wrong attempt at making a control slave, making it now Raphael's problem too.

The chance of bumping into figures that knew about all this was absimally low, but not low enough to flaunt Judas' appearance to everyone on the streets.

After using Judas to be recognized by the old missionary and officially entering the church with an official position nonetheless, Raphael decided to keep her.

That's right! He couldn't just abandon someone who was one hundred percent loyal to his every order! It was too useful!

Morover, he could just make her wear a mask and not let her interact with important people.

Sure, she couldn't realise her full potential as a slave, but he mouth and hands alone were more than enough for a poor sod like Raphael.
