Chapter IV - Why Me?

Chapter IV - Why Me?

Seraphim placed her small hand over her lips, giggling softly. 'Such a shame... she would have made an excellent disciple.'

"Good," Mother interjected, their tones resolute. "Abriel will use his Spatial Law, along with the Horizon Mirror, to teleport you to the closest point near the formation. We can’t teleport you directly—doing so might alert the enemy. They have experts with a profound grasp of Void Law, and we can't afford that risk. Once you arrive, wait for our signal and once you do, begin."

"Yes!"

Abriel wasted no time, summoning his Spatial Law. Small ripples began to form around his youthful figure, but they quickly swelled into violent hurricanes, tearing at the space surrounding him. The very fabric of reality cracked and splintered under the strain. His expression remained calm, his eyes held oceans of depth. With a series of intricate hand symbols, the Horizon Mirror resonated with him, glowing with mystical energy as its surface rippled like water disturbed by a stone.

"We’ll leave the rest to you," Abriel said, his gaze locking onto Lilith's. His voice steady, his eyes soft.

With a graceful movement, Lilith glided toward him and embraced him deeply. "Thank you for everything, Uncle," she whispered, holding him for a moment longer before slowly pulling away. She wiped a single tear from her cheek, her expression shifting to one of unwavering resolve. She glanced one last time at the Five Elder Lords, offering a slight bow.

"Remember, child," Titus' voice boomed. "Though we will be distracting the Chaos Lords, their younger geniuses may still pose a threat. Stay alert."

Lilith nodded, absorbing every word, understanding that the counsel of an Elder Lord was not to be taken lightly.

In a flash, Lilith dashed towards the Horizon Mirror which would have grown ten meters in length, passing through it with ease and vanishing without a trace.

"You did the right thing," Mother said calmly, her gaze steady as it rested on Abriel, who stood with his head slightly bowed. He let out a deep sigh, his voice quiet but resigned. "What's done is done. Our course is set."

Suddenly, his sapphire-blue eyes began to pulse, glowing with a deep, resonant blue that seemed to darken the space around him. Both Titus and Seraphim exchanged knowing looks, understanding Abriel's intent without a word. They moved toward him, gliding effortlessly through the air.

Titus clenched his massive fists, the razor-sharp rows of his teeth bared as his aura flared with an untamed intensity. His energy crackled around him like a gathering storm. "Finally," he growled, his voice brimming with anticipation. "It’s time for mayhem!"

In an instant, a blinding flash of blue enveloped them, and just like that, they vanished. The massive translucent dome that had shielded them disappeared as if swept away by the wind. Their presence erased, leaving the battlefield behind, out of sight, out of mind, as if they'd never been there at all.

Traveling through space or teleport travel isn't as smooth or effortless as one might imagine. Picture your body being violently stretched and compressed at the same time, as though invisible forces are pulling you in every direction. It’s like being torn apart and stitched back together in the blink of an eye. Breathing becomes impossible, your lungs grasping for air that doesn’t exist, while your mind struggles to form a single coherent thought. In that moment, the very fibers of your existence feel like they are being swallowed whole by the void.

After finally arriving her feet touched solid ground and Lilith exhaled, steadying herself. "Space travel is always so irritating," she muttered. "It’s unfortunate I never had an affinity for Space Will like my uncle, it would've been really convenient. "

Her gaze wandered over her surroundings. Vast stretches of earth, lush grass, towering trees, and shimmering lakes greeted her. The scene was beautiful, almost too perfect. "This is man made" she muttered softly. A soft star glowed in the morning sky, casting its warmth over the land with a natural beauty that Lilith hadn’t experienced in a very long time. The calmness of it all felt foreign, almost unnerving.

She inhaled deeply, and in that instant, her divine senses shot outward, like an invisible pulse, sweeping through the area and covering every inch of the landscape. "It seems I'm alone… for now," she murmured, her voice thoughtful. According to the information she’d received, the formation should be hidden deep within that lake. Yet something was off. Her divine senses couldn’t penetrate its depths.

"Is the formation blocking me?" Lilith wondered, her brow furrowing. Whatever the case, she would soon find out once she received the signal. Her expression tightened as she glanced around.

Without wasting any more time, her figure shot into the air, leaving a golden streak in the sky as she made her way to a nearby mountain range covered in thick snow. There, nestled between two jagged cliffs, she found a large, shadowed cave—secluded and perfect for what she needed. And so, Lilith entered the cave, placing concealment arrays at the entrance, basically cutting off the inside of the dark, cold cave to outside. She then slowly walked in, near to the base of the cave and sat cross-legged. Her usually stoic face softening into a frown. "I... don’t want to die," she whispered, her voice barely audible as a single tear escaped her closed eye and trailed down her cheek. "Is this really what I’ve spent all these years cultivating for?" The thought weighed heavily on her. She knew it was the right thing to do, yet her heart wavered, torn between duty and the deep fear clawing at her. "Why me?" she muttered, her hands clutching tightly to the silver armor on her chest. "Why not someone else?"

Her golden hair slowly began to lift, as if drawn by an unseen force, floating around her face. The air in the cave thickened, growing oppressive, as a dark, pulsating energy—black and red—began to radiate from her body. The sinister aura filled the cave, creating a sensation of horror that seemed to cling to the very walls.

"Dad..." she whispered, her mind spiraling with chaotic thoughts, her emotions unraveling. Anger crept into her expression, twisting her normally cold and composed features into something raw, something rarely seen in her.

"Back then," she hissed, her voice trembling with rage, "when that Chaos dog with the wings used that eye technique...I felt it. The surge in my blood, the fury, the pain, the torment screaming through me. It was either his head or mine. I was ready, i began to circulate my next technique and.." She gritted her teeth, her fists trembling as memories of the battle flooded her. "The fact that I don't have his head… it means I lost. I lost!"

Her frustration boiled over, and with a furious scream, Lilith slammed her fist into the cave floor, the impact leaving a small crater in the stone. Her qi flared for an instant before she quickly reined it in, fearing she might destroy the entire mountain range. Yet, despite regaining control over her power, her tears kept flowing.

This wasn’t the state Lilith wanted to find herself in. After countless years of training, she had tempered both her mind and heart to an unshakable degree. But ever since losing her father, Demon God Ashen, something inside her had fractured. The cold, unflinching demeanor she was known for had bent, giving way to the torrents of raw emotion that surged from deep within her. Simply put, she missed him. The ache of his absence gnawed at her, and with it came the crushing feeling that she had failed—not just herself, but him as well. Now, it was impossible for her to inherit his will, his legacy and push past his limits

“Now it’ll be Uncle who inherits my father’s legacy…” she thought bitterly. Her brows furrowed as another thought flickered in her mind. "Wait… Uncle?"

––Boom––

A distant explosion echoed outside the cave. Hovering in the sky some distance away, Meal surveyed the terrain beneath him, his expression calm. His divine sense swept across the landscape like a hawk circling its prey. "She's here," he murmured, his voice low, almost a growl. Behind him floated two familiar experts—Syne, a tall man with slick purple hair, and Ivy, a petite woman with childlike features and flowing pink hair, clutching a golden staff in her delicate hand. Perched on Mael's shoulder, like an ominous shadow, sat Khalifa, a dark-haired beauty whose mere presence could incite the downfall of entire cities.

"Your Evil Eye is truly terrifying," Ivy, the pink hair expert said in a playful tone, floating effortlessly beside him. Her voice cute and childlike. "One of the top ten ocular techniques, just like my True Iris," she giggled, her gaze flickering with amusement.

Syne, the purple-haired man, stroked his chin in thought. "So, you know she's here, but you can't pinpoint her exact location?"

"That's correct," Mael answered, his voice calm, his expression unchanged. Glancing to his left, he raised his massive hand and pointed towards the distant mountain range. "A clever trick, but in front of me and my eyes, such efforts are wasted. It appears our little friend has sealed herself away in one of the caves over there. I can’t say which one for certain, as she's cut herself off from this space. However, it's that very fact that made it easy for me to locate her."

Mael frowned slightly, his brow furrowing in thought. 'Were you always this careless? he mused silently. Why hide yourself in such a place? You have the power to fight, so why cower? 'His mind raced with questions as he continued to observe the surroundings, still unsure of what game Lilith was playing.

“They’re two places my divine senses can’t penetrate—the mountain range, where I’m sure the yellow-haired woman has gone to hide, and beneath the lake just ahead.” Mael folded his arms as he spoke, his large wings twitching ever so slightly. “What a coincidence that, in this exact location, there are not one, but two areas I’m unable to pierce with my Divine Sense.” A wide grin stretched across Mael’s face, a stark contrast to his usual cold, emotionless demeanor. “Interesting, ladies and gentlemen. It seems we may have stumbled upon something much bigger than we first thought.”

He paused, his piercing gaze scanning the surroundings, “It’s just a hunch, but every fiber of my being is screaming that there’s an opportunity here—one I must seize.” Mael’s hand clenched into a fist, the confident smile still fixed on his strikingly handsome face. “Ivy,” he called out softly, his voice laced with authority, “place a barrier around this entire realm. Nothing gets in or out.”

“Yes, Young Master Mael!” Ivy replied eagerly, her petite form standing at full attention mid-air, her doll-like features lighting up with a mischievous grin and without hesitation, she dashed upwards into the sky, her figure soaring with effortless grace. She raised her golden staff high into the air, and with a flick of her wrist, a massive pink barrier descended from the heavens, enveloping the entire realm in an unbreakable seal. “All done, Young Master!!” she chirped, her wide eyes gazing down at Mael expectantly, her playful expression begging for approval.

Mael glanced up at the barrier, his mind sinking into deep thought. 'Her comprehension of Sealing Techniques has definitely improved. Even I would need a few dozen blows to break through something of this caliber. She’s not holding back.'

“Young Master Mael!” Ivy’s voice rang out, snapping him from his thoughts.

“Well done,” he said with a nod of approval.

Her cheeks instantly flushed red, while Mael’s expression returned to its usual composed,

calculating state.
