“I have the Ace” the boy sitting at the table no older than twentie says. “Bullshit” responds a man with a harsh accident that could only be caused from years of smoking can cause. Even now a soft cherry illuminates the dim room coming off the man's cigarette. A girl mid twenties in age picks up her cards and closely examines them her brow furrowed. The dealer sensing that atmosphere at the table turning sour says to the man “it is your turn to act” he reluctantly adds “sir.”
The man glances at the dealer with a vicious expression then to the table. Two aces, a queen, a six and a seven lay face up in the center a stack of chips larger than any other on the table stands next to the cards. “I know you don’t have the ace” he says to the boy before pushing the remainder of his stack into the center. The boy ignoring the man turns to the girl and from an angle only she and the dealer can see he winks with his right eye. The girl seeing this sighs softly and pushes her cards to the center of the table. The boy with a bright smile pushes his stack in and flips his cards over presenting an ace and a seven “full house” the boy remarks with a soft twinkle in his eye he begins pulling the chips towards him.
“What the fuck do you think your doing” says the man now holding a pistol to the boys head ”I won he says as he takes the boys ace and swaps it with his queen”. “I wouldn’t” the words slip out almost casually to the girl now sitting in stunned silence and fear unable to move. “That gun is jammed from poor maintenance if you fire it will blow up in your hand.” The man looks at the gun in his hand there was a thick buildup of residue close the chamber but he had just used it earlier that night to take care of another ‘problem’ he'd had, the man knew it would fire. The dealer had long since hidden under the table already use to the rules of the house if you can't protect yourself than you dont have the right to win. Glancing at the gun the girl still too shocked sees the gun is covered in grime and blood. “Sorry i hate kids with smart mouths like you the most learn how to talk in your next life” spits the man as he pulls the trigger.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
‘BANG’ “ahhh” blood sprays on the boys face and a finger falls in the stack of chips the gun had blown up in the man's hand as the boy had said it would, the man was now rolling on the ground clutching at what used to be his right hand. Wiping off the blood with his thumb the mumbles “I told you.” collecting the cash at the table the boy tosses the girl the value of the buy in and begins to exit the room. “Wait” the girl finally free from her state like state “how did you know the gun would jam?” he motions for her to follow him out the room. Following the boy the girl finds herself in the dark hallway and up the stairs she had taken down to the underground gambling hall back to the street of the city bustling and calm unable to hear the gun through the cacophony of the cities nightlife. “You can follow me if you like” he says before he turns down an alley towards the quieter part of the city.
The girl glancing toward the taxis rushing past and the alley the boy had gone down tightly grasps the money the boy had tossed her follows him. The girl sees the boy with shoulder length blonde hair tied back in a short ponytail wearing black pants and ww2 era bomber jacket over a striking red t shirt, and again shouts “wait.” “what's your name?” the boy asks as he begins pulling out a cigarette himself and lights it in a smooth practice motion. “Rika” the girl says as she rejects the cigarette offered to her with her hand. “K, my name i mean” he clarifies seeing the confusion in the girls eye. “So how did you know… K” she adds tasting th boys short name as it comes to her lips. “I didnt” he said with a straight face. “Are you Crazy?, Bluffing like that to a man like that you must be the luckiest person alive.” “it wasnt a bluff, you knew that gun would explode in the man's hand and the dealer knew the gun would explode in the man's hand so it did.” with that K pushed off the wall and began walking away leaving he girl who by this point had decided the boy truly was crazy in the alley
