To all of you who have read (and continue to read) my work, I want to offer you a sincere and heartfelt thank you.
The two books I’ve written so far; The Dįvįnë Will Bear Witness to Fate and Mundus: A Theological Account, which comprise the first portion of the overarching work of fantasy that I’m striving to complete, are far more than just the fruits of my hobby. The Drågoon Mémoirs are more than my life’s passion. This story is very much a piece of me. A melding of dreams I’ve had (quite literally), aspects of my favorite fictions from a lifetime of movies, books, comics and anime, and my desire to write a story about Black and POC characters who move to better themselves and their world.
For so long, I’ve wanted desperately to show the world through my work that contrary to the overwhelming popular narrative, our characters can be defined by more than pimping, drugs, sex, gang violence and pain. That we can have healthy Black-on-Black relationships. That we can have desires outside of “getting out of the game”. That rap and sports aren’t the only ways that Black characters can find importance and self-actualization. That Black men can see themselves as more than savage and that Black women of all skin tones, sizes and body types will know that their natural hair is beautiful and that not only are they desired by Black men, but that they are loved.
All things that are far too rarely expressed to us across all forms of entertainment, in all mediums; not just high fantasy.
I’ve poured all of my creativity (however limited it may be) into my work. And all I’ve ever wanted in return is for it to be read. For my words to be drunk in with interest and fervor. For Mundus to have life breathed into it so that it might live rent free in other people’s imaginations outside of my own. And for my brothers and sisters in the Black diaspora to glimpse themselves reflected in a type of fiction that they rarely do…and feel seen.
Find this and other great novels on the author's preferred platform. Support original creators!
And, if I’m very lucky, for it to be appreciated before my time on this earth is done.
That’s not to say that there’s nothing for others to like in my writing. I’d like to think that anyone of any race or creed could enjoy my work. That anyone could find something incredible or unique in its words. Fantasy is fantasy after all. And it has the power to ignite a fire in any who engage with it. But if you’re of the diaspora, I want you to find something deeper. Something beyond the magic, dragons and other-worldly creatures. Something that’s of us.
But I digress…
In the wake of my perfuse appreciation of the time of my dear readers, I want to announce that for the time being, I won’t be posting any more on this, or any other writers/readers sites. This is because I’ll be deep into writing the second main-line entry in the Drågoon Mémoirs…All Shall Burn to Nothingness. Of which I’ve only completed the first draft of the first five chapters of a planned thirty-three.
*Sigh*. I know now what a “labor of love” truly is.
But while I’m genuinely unsure as to how long this endeavor will take, I’d ask that you keep me favorited and not abandon hope or belief in my aspirations. I promise that I will see my series finished and in front of you all for your consumption. And in the meantime, you can follow me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TheDragoonMemoirs/. There I’ll be doing my best to keep all of you, along with the rest of my followers, updated on my progress. As well as when I’ll start posting the next book to writer/reader sites.
And beyond giving a message of thanks to all of the readers who’ve supported me thus far by choosing to follow the first leg of Samahdemn’s journey through loss, love and his rise to power, I wanted to give you all something more…substantial than a thank you and a “state of affairs”. So in the following section, for all those interested, I’m posting a “gift” in the following segment. A glimpse of the future. A vision that I sincerely hope you all enjoy.
Thank you…thank you…and thank you again for choosing to spend so much of your time in the world of Mundus.
