After a restless Night of sleep, A plan was beginning to Take shape in Krs mind. Bookmancy sounded just too useful to give up, but how would he be able to know which classes that take to qualify? Half an hour with the guidance teacher costs 1 entire N-point and checking out the jobs board at the Cantina. There were no jobs He could quite qualify for Without allies or equipment, well, at least there were no jobs that paid enough n-points At least there were no jobs that rivalled the cost/time ratio like the elementary short courses. Coming to a bit of bit of a standstill in his plans Krs Decided to check the library for many of the questions he had in his Transmutation class.
Spending 18 hours to find the quite basic knowledge he needed, Krs Had filled yet another mundane notebook. But at least he had written down all the basic information like density, weight, melting point and material composition of most mundane building materials/metals as well as their mana conductivity and most common mana aspekt repelling and attraction. In his writing in the library Krs Decided to try out an idea. He would check out elementary enchantments and see if Similar knowledge to what he had found, was needed in the course. If so, there would be very little Time wasted and he Could duplicate his work. For if he did nothing, and every single short course took 10 hours of additional research time he would need a better plan, mind, or strategy.
Having passed the transmutation exam, just barely, by turning a small Schist rock into a similar Gneiss rock using the transmutation principles he had just learned, heat, pressure and approximately 80% of his mana on hand. limping out to see the line over the course.
Elementary transmutation: short course on the Philosophy, Strength and weaknesses of the way of transmutation 11 hours. 0.1 N-points at finish.
And seeing at the bottom, a new contender for his time.
Basic transmutation: short continuation course on the Philosophy, Strength and weaknesses of the way of transmutation 100 hours. 1 N-points at finish. Needs: Elementary transmutation, Elementary mana channelling. Recommended: Elementary mana changing, Elementary transfiguration, Elementary meditation. Elementary Change material.
Feeling himself drained like almost never before, Krs Nevertheless, persisted and went into elementary Enchantment. Coming out six hours later Quite glad that he was right and that much of the knowledge one would need for elemental Transmutation was the same as elementary enchantment. But once again, he was wrong in the school's typical use. Approximately 2/3 of it was a thorough grounding in the beginning of item creation or just in creation itself. But baffling enough for him the other parts. Was how to enchant people, how to blur minds and even a bit how to take them over. This was incredibly interesting and also terrifying, Krs had never even thought of the possibility that someone might dominate him with a simple spell. Spending 10 hours and another notebook. He felt run ragged after six hours of the course and decided to go sleep in his room.
Waking Krs took stock of his situation. He had 21 hours until the Proctor had set up a meet. He had five hopefully now pregnant, slightly magical rabbits. Seven quite large trees set in a formation that gave the air ever so slightly more mana and we're talking a fraction of a percentage here. A tonne of books he couldn't use, Sell or destroy. A set of old scribers tools. A few 100 seeds Magical and mundane. Diverse notary Items like paper, ink, bottles, bags, rulers, jugs and the like. Dead rabbit partially used. Oh, and of course, the ghost food.
Finishing elementary enchantment, this time also by a hair. Though he spent five hours researching in the library. When he came to the booth to get his points transferred over, he saw the new Courses laid out for him.
Elementary magic tool use: short course on not killing yourself when using magic tools. 11 hours. 0.1 N-points at finish. Needs: Elementary Transfiguration, Elementary transmutation, Elementary mana channelling.
Elementary Magic tool maintenance: short course on how not to get strangled by your enchanter. Oh, and then in making things not break, dumb asses. 11 hours. 0.1 N-points at finish. Needs: Elementary Transfiguration, Elementary transmutation, Elementary mana channelling. Elementary magic tool use Elementary magic tool creation: short course on making something no one will appreciate you enough for. 11 hours. 0.1 N-points at finish. Needs: Elementary Transfiguration, Elementary transmutation, Elementary mana channelling. Elementary magic tool use. Elementary Magic tool maintenance
Frowning a bit Krs asked the booth attendant. “Why does it feel like the text is a bit.................... Snippy with me?” Looking over at him, the woman behind the counter said. “Oh, you're on elementary magic tool Use already. Fun, it's definitely Three courses I recommend everyone take, it should just be called common sense, but strangely enough many don't take it. I keep going. Come on. You're inside A magic tool right now. Just because it's the greatest magic tool that ever existed doesn't mean it's not a magic tool. But no, right to the throwing of flames, I tell you, they have no imagination. What was the question again?” Taking a very small step back from the over enthused woman Krs said. “The text is angry?” Understanding Bloomed in the woman's eyes as she shook her head. “No, no. That course was made specially by the fourth true headmaster that has ever existed of the school. A Master artificer of vast powers. Unfortunately, for most of his career, he did not get the Prestige that he thought he might deserve. Both amongst his peers and amongst his party. Pretty much everything he ever touched is a legendary item or heirloom or artefact. but it's always imbued with a certain. Grumpiness. Pay it no mind, most artificers are actually quite on his side in their burning hatred of people who misuse their artefacts.” Smiling Krs said “Thank you.” Before the woman could jump to a new topic or continue the one, she was on now, he briskly walked away and into an elementary transfiguration class.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
As Krs sat in the class debating with himself whether to take the risk and enter the exam now. Or to wait and research the maybe two hours of materials he had in his notebook, it hit him. Not a single one of his classes dealt with organics in anyway, was it simply easier to go with inorganic on the elementary scale? Perhaps, but not even fungus. And then, in a single moment, he saw the difference. There was not a peep of necromancy, flesh crafting or crafting of any type of organics. Was the bias truly that strong?
In the Nersinian guidebook Necromancy spells were tossed off like common examples just like the evocation. To figure out conversions of wealth the Nersinian guidebook used high human coins to shattered souls of the plains of damnation. And looking into the Narsinian guidebook There wasn't a peep of it, in fact, most of the talk of soul, strengthening the soul, utility of the soul even mention of the soul was entirely gone from the common repertoire. Was this a weakness he could exploit? Was it dangerous to know anything about necromancy?
His head ringing with the new knowledge, He decided not to gamble and ready himself to turn home When a voice came out of the crowd. “Chris over here. I'm here. It's Harper. We did a job together.” turning around and seeing the boy, gesturing him towards His table where he sat alone. Krs Smiled, walked over, and sat down as Harper went. “Wooh! Am I glad to see a familiar face. Good to see you, old sport. Your courses going well?” “Yes, quite Thank you. I must admit I often have to do some research at the library, but the entire thing is just fascinating.” Nodding, Harper said enthusiastically. “Yes, I knew you would understand. The stuff of creation in our very hands, I am straight up going for Golems no ifs, ands or butts. Amazing arcane servants that can do anything! I just got to pass Elementary enchantment first. Who am I kidding? I have to pass a lot of other Courses then classes first. But the ambition is there, I tell you.” Hearing some raucous idiots in the background Krs paid it no mind as he started telling his........Friend?.......Friend! “I just passed elementary enchantment I have my notebook right here.” Taking out his notebook and passing it over. “With this it really should go easier.”
As Harper flipped through the notebook a smile took shape on his face and he said. “What you have the...... and the answers are right here. Oh, so question and then research and then that that makes sense.” Putting the notebook into his inner pocket Harper looked up and smiled and said. “This is amazing. This is going to help so much. I barely got through Elementary mana channelling and have been stuck on enchantment for like a week now, I knew I should have studied more before I came here. Really thank you my friend. This will help. Oh, but have you heard about-” an explosion rocked the entirety of the hall. Time seems to slow for Krs as he felt pressure first on his face, then arms and legs as it seemed he was pushed off the ground.
Splinters flying around and over him his eyes watery and a little out of focus, but he could still see, as a shard of what looked like bones. Snagged Harpers face, and as a man one table closer seem to erupt into pieces of shards himself and blood of course why all the blood. KRS landed and Sort of got smeared a little over the ground before he near instinctively put up the smallest of Shields. Opening his eyes with his back on the ground, he simply saw the flat of a table coming towards himself, and then blackness.
Coming to sometime later, in a bed somewhere white. Krs looked around himself, seeing cots filled with sleeping men. He dizzily got up trying his best to keep whatever he had in his stomach down. He swallowed his bile, rotated his mana in a small circuit, and headed out of the tent thing. Strangely enough, outside things, seemed like very normal. The hall seemed the same, students were running here and there to booths trying to find, the right course. And a man sat with his back to him, seemingly smoking a pipe with one arm and trying to cast something with the other. Krs was going to say something, but he lost himself in the colours and the shifting of the mana in the man's spell.
He did not know how long he stood there looking. It really did feel like seconds, but also weeks. And then again forever. He felt himself lost in space and time as a snap on his nose brought him back. Still looking at the back of the man, as he smoked his pipe without the spell formed this time. Krs said “Hello, thank you for healing me. Should I sign something?” laughing a bit to himself, the man in the chair said. “You got yourself a Real nice body from when you were servant of Narsinia boy. All that time steeped in mana no wonder you survived easily, guess you're a lucky one.” Stepping over to an around the desk, Krs smiled down at the man as he smoked. “Could I perhaps be allowed another question?” This time showing his teeth, the man said. “The way I see it, you just asked another question. But that probably was not your intent, I'm feeling generous. I'll give you a freebie. Ask the right one now!” Thinking on his feet that he should ask how to become a bookmancer easily, his instincts stopped him, and he asked.
“My friend Harper Cohort 332 could you tell me his condition?” “Ha evaded my little trap now didn't you little Homunculus. let's see Oh yeah, he lost that eye, shattered the greater portion of his upper body. Got a whole hell of a lot of psychological scarring, I'll give it a week and he's up and running again. That is figuratively speaking of course. He's probably never going to run again unless he pays very hefty sum to a healer or a restoration expert. Now get while the getting's good.”
Krs walked away and tried to do a simple tempus cantrip. After failing multiple times, He walked towards the jobs board and saw that the time to meet his cohorts proctor was approximately 6 hours ago. He had simply missed it, So, not knowing what to do, he went and got a meal in the cafeteria. After eating and thinking and thinking and eating. He just gave up and went to his room to sleep.
Not really seeing what he could do about missing the Proctors meet. He simply continued on like normal and went to the library. Researching what was in his notebook about Transfiguration and its principles, for some reason he felt quite heavy and not as sharp as he used to be. Chalking it up to almost being blown to pieces, he finally got into the zone and started really to research the transfiguration principles. His problem now was that he was too much in the zone, and luckily for him, after 24 hours of manic hyper fixating research. A quite angry librarian came to kick him out for not returning the ritual sacrifice books within the week. He was scolded and lambasted as they strictly told him. “People were shouting at us, that we lost another first year because we gave out the books on ritual sacrifice. And when we tried to find out where your room was recycled to, they told us you weren't dead. We looked like idiots! You were close to getting a bounty on your head, young man. Now go grab the books and give them back.” So, after shlepping back and forth, and many, many apologies. Krs laid his head down in his rooms Meadow.
Smiling a bit to himself, he didn't figure out very much during his hyper fixation. But it seemed to him quite easy now to solve the necromancy question. Well, easy was an exaggeration, but at least There was a way. Drifting off, thinking of restoration, plans upon plans whirring through his head.
