Chapter-1

In the darkened confines of the unfamiliar bedroom, Matt sat upright in bed, his mind swirling with questions, silently contemplating the bewildering turn of events. He couldn’t quite believe what his senses were telling him. Just moments ago, he reading a book that his girlfriend suggested. After completing the first 3 books, he went to sleep. The next thing he knows is he is waking up in Alex’s body.

As Matt grew up, he loved reading isekai manga and novels, where the main character always ended up in a medieval fantasy world. However, he never thought this would happen to him. Even more, he couldn’t figure out why he ended up in this kind of story when all the ones he read followed a different pattern. He transmigrated in a supernatural young-adult novel.

Matt’s gaze wandered around the room, absorbing every corner once belonging to this body but now his own. He sighed deeply, feeling the weight of his new identity settling upon him. Thoughts of family, girlfriend, and even his beloved cat flooded his mind. Had he died? Overwhelming emotions surged within him, and tears spilled down his cheeks. Silently, tears traced paths down his face as Matt whispered, “I never asked for any of this!” Exhausted and devastated, he curled up into a ball, succumbing to fitful sleep, tears continuing to stream down his face.

Matt wakes up slowly, his eyelids heavy with sleep, when a loud bang echoes from his door, jolting him into alertness. He hears a young girl’s voice calling out urgently, “Wake up! We will be late!” responding automatically. Matt loudly exclaimed, “I’m awake!”

As Matt becomes fully awake, he recalls what happened last night. Memories flooded back into his consciousness. The surreal experience of transmigration in the book. He looks around the room, his gaze sweeping over the familiar surroundings. He mutters to himself,” I guess it’s not a dream.”

Suddenly, his door swings open, revealing a young girl standing before him. She has black hair cascading down her shoulders and brown eyes that meet his gaze with curiosity.

“Are you okay? You don’t look so good,” the young girl asked, her voice laced with concern, as she peered at Matt.

“I’m okay, just haven’t been getting much sleep,” Matt responded wearily. He managed a smile as he added, “Thanks, Brandy!”

Brandy regarded him with a strange look and blurted out, “Who are you? And what have you done with Alex?” She couldn’t fathom her typically moody brother, suddenly expressing gratitude. Matt froze in panic at Brandy’s question. Before he could respond, she added in a mocking tone, “You must be sick or something!” Matt replied dryly, “Hilarious!”

“Now that’s the Alex I remember!” Brandy exclaimed, smiling warmly at her brother.

Matt glanced at her before asking, “What do you want?” His tone conveyed his annoyance.

“Just letting you know, Grams says she will be busy today, so pick me up from practice,” Brandy informed him before leaving his room.

As Matt watched Brandy leave his room, he let out a sigh of relief. He had almost lost his composure for a moment there. According to Alex’s memories, he and his twin sister never got along, so him thanking her felt like out of character.

When Matt reached the bathroom across from his room, his reflection confronted him in the mirror. Despite being an average 35-year-old worn down by overwork, with aged lines etched into his face, the reflection staring back at him now was that of a teenage guy reminiscent of those he’d seen on TikTok. He studied his current body, feeling a sense of disorientation and disbelief creeping over him. The reflection had untidy black hair, deep brown eyes, and a face that formed a clear V shape.

With a sigh, Matt sorted through his memories and those of Alex, which flooded his mind when he woke up. Several clues pointed to his transmigration into the novel he was reading. Before his transmigration, Matt remembered reading a supernatural young adult novel recommended by his girlfriend. The story features a girl named Selena Conman who meets a vampire named Aidan Black in her high school, leading to a dramatic love story. Interestingly, according to Alex’s memories, there was a girl named Selena Conman and a new student named Aidan Black in his high school. The alignment between the novel’s plot and real-life events in Alex’s memories strongly suggested that Matt had indeed transmigrated into the world of the novel.

Matt sifted through his memories of the book, piecing together details as he went along. He discovered a crucial fact: the body he was currently occupying had met a grim fate in the first volume of the series. A vampire had killed him. Panic surged within him as he realized the perilous nature of the world he had transmigrated into. In this world, random characters died left and right, raising the stakes of his situation exponentially.

Matt walks slowly into the dining room and spots the body’s twin sister sitting at the dinner table, engrossed in her phone and eating cereal. He immerses himself in Alex's memories and cautiously approaches her. There on the table, he notices an empty bowl, a box of cereal, and milk nearby, so he silently prepares himself a bowl of cereal. As he sits across from her, Matt can't help but compare to his actual sister. He notices similarities and differences, feeling a pang of nostalgia for his sibling while trying to adjust.

Brandy notices her brother’s lost gaze directed at her and narrows her eyes. Sensing his distraction, she asked,” What? “with a hint of suspicion in her voice. Brandy’s voice brings Matt back to reality, and he quickly regains his composure. He responds jokingly, “Can’t I just ogle my pretty sister??” trying to brush off his distraction with a lighthearted remark.

She gave him a strange expression and impatiently inquired, “Are you on drugs?” With a look of disbelief.

Matt quickly realizes his mistake and tries to diffuse the situation. “I’m just messing with you!” he continued in a self-mocking tone, hoping to brighten the mood. “Loosen up for a minute, for real,” he said.

After a moment of staring at him with an unreadable expression, she turns away from him and resumes using her phone, completely ignoring his comment. Matt notices her eyes fixed on her phone screen. A wave of relief washes over him, and he lets out an inward sigh.

As Matt eats his breakfast, He contemplates his current situation and the challenges that lie ahead. First, to blend in with this new reality, he must fully become Alex. Second, he recalls in the novel the Bradbury families are witches. Alex dies before he discovers he is a witch. Matt understands the importance of unlocking his potential as a witch. Third, most importantly, Matt must step into the role of his grandmother and perform the spell that frees the vampires from their prison. By doing so, he can alter the course of events and prevent his grandmother from dying,

Matt’s gaze falls upon Brandy, who remains fixated on her phone. He takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and completely embraces Alex’s character. He takes on Alex’s mannerisms and understands Alex’s profound suffering, Alex’s uncertainty about himself, Alex’s frustration with the world, and Alex’s isolation. Matt embraces every aspect that plays a role in shaping Alex’s character. Upon opening his eyes, he looks directly into his twin sister’s eyes. With a new sense of resolve, he responds in Alex’s voice, “Are you done eating? I don’t wanna be late ‘cause of your boyfriend!” with a sarcastic tone.
