Chapter 161. The ‘perfect’ plan

Chapter 161. The ‘perfect’ plan

Despite Leo's initial reaction, he wasn't that worried. Thanks to all the information he bought from the Void merchant about the Gates, he at least understood how they worked. As such, even if this Supercluster held three Dimensional Gateways, the Voidlings that would come out of it soon couldn't be that strong.

Though, it's still an issue. There are enough monsters in London to keep everyone busy for weeks. Nobody needs thousands more of those fuckers flooding the city.

Then there was the fact that nobody had any idea what exactly would come out of the gates. For now, most of the survivors had already grown used to all the cursed variants and the mutated forms of animals running around. However, in the grand scheme of things, this was nothing. Leo could only imagine what horrors the Void really hid within it.

Yeah, leaving the Supercluster alone is just not an option. He shook his head, directing his gaze back to Lily. "Are you one hundred percent sure that those were Dimensional and not Planetary Gateways?"

His sister nodded. "I checked twice before I had to escape. All of those things lead right into the Void."

Didn't hurt to ask. He sighed and proceeded to tell them everything about the Void Gates he had learned from the merchant. If they wanted to deal with this problem together, they had to work with the same amount of information.

"So what are you saying is that we're still fucked but not as hard as we had thought?" Malcolm summed it up.

Leo shrugged. "Pretty much. I'm sure there is still more we don't know, but that's the gist of it."

"Bloody hell," the other man muttered. "I'm not going to lie; that makes me feel a bit better. Not much, but it's always something..."

"Not that it changes much anyway," Lily scowled, stopping Malcolm from saying more. "We need to do something if we want to continue living on Earth. Like you said, Leo, it's only a matter of time before stronger Voidlings start coming out of those Gates. And with the Supercluster powering them, I'm sure they won't be weak even in the beginning."

'She's right,' Nyx spoke up. 'Unless they decide to leave this planet, you need to come up with a plan, fast.'

Easier said than done. Leo grumbled, even as his mind was running a hundred miles per hour. "How many people do you have here, and how many of those can fight?"

Taken back by the sudden question, it took a good moment for someone to respond.

"A bit over fifty," Lily admitted after sharing a nod with her co-leader. "Only sixteen of them are below level ten, and I doubt that's going to change anytime soon. Why?"

"Just want to know what we're working with," he explained. "What about the Emissaries?"

"At this point?" Malcolm scratched his head. "It's honestly hard to say. We don't know how many of the initial hundred Blessed have died. Not too many most likely. Then there are the others that joined them, be it out of fear or just because. I want to say there can't be more than fifty of them, but we really have no idea."

That doesn't really tell me much. Leo grimaced and looked towards his sister. "Lily?"

She just sighed with a weak shrug. "What he said."

"Great... And I take they have as many, if not more, high-level people as you do?"

Malcolm nodded, his face turning sour. "That's right."

You know what, Nyx? Suddenly, the prospect of letting the Earth die doesn't seem too bad. At this point, I think finding a place to live inside the Void could be easier than dealing with the Emissaries and Supercluster.

'Possibly, even if I doubt that,' the feline mumbled. 'But you're not gonna tell them that, right?'

No, at least not yet. He replied, frowning. I might have a plan. Well, a base of a plan, but that's better than nothing. We just need to gather a bit more information.

'I'm all ears then.'

With a nod, he spoke again, this time out loud. "Assuming I can kill this Payne and maybe make some people switch sides, I might have an idea how to fix this pile of shit. Just one question first. Had any of your civilians come up with a way to create some explosives?"

'Now that came out of nowhere,' Nyx chuckled, but he ignored her.

"Explosives?" Malcolm furrowed his brow. "I mean, yeah. Mitsuki has created a bomb that is at least thrice as strong as overflowed Crystalized Essence. We usually use it to escape the Emissaries. Useful stuff, I tell you."

"Huh, that solves one problem, I guess," Leo blinked. "How many can you prepare in, say... two days?"

"Not sure," the other man muttered. "About ten to twenty, depending on how many people we put on gathering resources. Maybe even more."

He hummed, his claws tapping against his knee. That could work... I just have to somehow make them all agree to this madness... Which might be a problem.

"Leo?" Lily nudged him, breaking him out of his thoughts. "What's going on? Why do you need explosives?"

"Right..." He chuckled; for a moment, he forgot they couldn't read his mind like Nyx. "We all agree that London is already a warzone, and soon it will only take a turn for the worse, yes?"

At that, the others nodded. There was no denying what he just said.

"So you see, it would be best for everyone, mainly your civilians, if we had a safe place away from the Emissaries to rest, train, and prepare. That's where the explosives come in," he elaborated.

"Okay... Doesn't explain much though," Malcolm said.

Leo raised his hands. "I wasn't done yet... I want Wolford to become our base of operations. At least until we deal with everything here. Voidlings there are weaker, so this way, even the low-level survivors can safely grow. The only danger there is the Nightmare Graveyard, which is exactly where I want to use explosives."

"Hold up!" Lily suddenly shot out of her seat. "Ignoring your plans for Wolford. You want to blow up a bloody Nightmare nest? Are you mental?!"

He frowned. Nobody appreciates my genius.

Nyx snorted internally. 'Can't say I blame them.'

Not helping. Leo grumbled. "It will be fine. As long as we do it during the daytime, those fuckers should die almost instantly. Besides, it's already quite weakened due to my little rampage."

For a moment, silence reigned over the room; even Lily collapsed back onto the couch. However, just like always, someone had to break it sooner or later.

"Okay, fine," Malcolm's voice filled the chamber. "Let's say your idea works out. We then have a city that is relatively safe and more people overall if the other group agrees to join up. Then what? You plan to use those strong enough to fight against the Emissaries and the Supercluster?"

Leo shook his head. "I won't make anyone fight other survivors. I will deal with them alone if I must. All I want is for people to be ready to clear the area around the Supercluster. Once we do that, maybe we can contain it. And if that doesn't work, we will at least have a Safe Zone to return to in Wolford."

"That's still a lot of what ifs with plenty that can go wrong," Lily pointed out. "Then there's time. We have barely two weeks left before the floodgates open. Can you say that's enough to do everything you've just mentioned?"

And wasn't that the question of the year?

"No, no, I can't," Leo chuckled quietly. "But I also don't hear you coming up with a better plan. You said it yourself. You've been hiding ever since your last Safe Zone was destroyed. You're constantly running away from the Emissaries and slowly falling behind. So tell me... Do you plan to continue like that and let everyone here die? Or would you like to at least try this mad plan of mine?"

Once more, nobody said anything. The silence stretched on for so long that he was ready to speak up and try to convince them again. Yet, before he could do so, Malcolm pulled his head from his arms.

"Lily," he said softly, earning the woman's attention. "He is right. We are slowly suffocating here. Bloody hell, they probably don't even need Payne to defeat us anymore. It's time we take the risk. Like you said, we have been on the defensive for too long. Now, we can change that."

Leo, seeing his sister's resolve slowly crumble, threw in a cent of his own. "Come on, sis. Trust me, just like you always did. If we work together, we can do this."

"I..." She heaved a sigh before a light smile spread over her face. "Okay, so be it. We’ll do it your way... What do you need from us? Aside from the explosives."

"Nothing really," he returned the smile. "Just focus on getting those bombs and keeping everyone here safe. In the meantime, I finally need to pay the Supercluster a visit."

And maybe get a level... or three.
