Alex let Anna rest close to himself for a while, after what she had been through. Still gripping her by the shoulders, he broke away from her.
“Now, now. Anna,” he reassured, holding her firmly. She was fighting tears.
“What should I do now, Alex? Nobody trusts me.” Alex found that ridiculous. Bringing his arms to the seams of his pants, he told,
“Says who…? I trust you, Anna.”
Anna lifted her eyes to look at him. “You do?” she asked with a sob.
“Of course, I do! Don’t cry.” He wiped away the tears from her face. Tapping her, he continued, “Be brave! Go, face those soldiers and say this out loud: ‘I, Princess Anna of Arendelle, declare a state of emergency’.”
Strong-willed, she turned away and walked right up to where she previously stood. She held her head high. Facing the soldiers, she cried out, “I, Princess Anna of Arendelle, declare a state of emergency!”
Baffled soldiers wondered what that meant while Lieutenant Mattias stood confused. “Wha…?”
The royal sergeant stepped forward, “As a state of emergency has been declared, therefore, on behalf of the Queen of Arendelle, I order you to stand down.”
Slowly but surely, the soldiers behind the lieutenant lowered their weapons. Seeing his troops comply, Mattias stood bemused. “By order of the queen, you are required to break formation with Lieutenant Mattias and fall in position behind Princess Anna.” Instructed Alex. One after the other, the soldiers clicked their heels and concurred,
“Yes, sir!”
Lieutenant Mattias couldn’t believe his eyes when his soldiers walked across and stood guard behind the princess. In shock, his eyes widened as his shield slipped out of his hand. It dropped to the ground with a clang. Alex stepped closer to the lieutenant.
“Lieutenant Destin Mattias.” he started. “By order of the queen, I command you to step aside for Princess Anna.”
Mattias grew tensed and desperately searched for words. “I… er… umm…” he stuttered. But as the royal sergeant glared, he submitted with finality, “Yes… sir.” He moved to a side, and Anna’s path was now clear.
“Thank you, Alex.” She expressed profoundly.
“Do what you must, princess…” began Alex, mindful that he was surrounded by soldiers. He picked up the shield that Lieutenant Mattias dropped, “While we do what we must.” Drawing out the royal sword and crossing it in front of the shield, he faced the stirring giants not very far away, “For Arendelle.”
With that, he began to clash the sword onto the shield, and the soldiers followed. In time with the repeated crashing rhythm, the men and women in formation started to chant the ‘Hymn of the Enlisted Soldier’. Maddened by the clatter of swords and shouting of soldiers, the Earth Giants broke free from the rope around their legs and got to their feet. Seeing that this was doing the trick, Anna sprinted onto the crest of the dam. The giants roared in anger, but the soldiers didn’t falter—they only clashed their swords and shields with more vigor and sang in impassioned voices. Dangerously close to them, the giants began to throw massive boulders at the same thing that ruined their sweet slumber: Anna. They started to shower boulders at her—no, at the dam!
Stolen story; please report.
Standing on the crest of the dam, Anna yelled at them, “Destroy the dam! Come on, throw your boulders!”
A boulder pounded into a section of the crest right in front of her. “That’s it,” she said to herself before running to the opposite exit. One of the giants stepped onto the formation of soldiers. All the men and women quickly moved out of the way, save one man who was directly under a giant’s foot. “Look out!” Mattias jumped in and saved him at the last moment.
“The princess is in danger.” Alex had to think quickly. He was struck by a solution; he darted toward the rope Anna dropped. Picking it up, he motioned, “Soldiers, follow me!” All the troops, including Lieutenant Mattias, accompanied him as he ran to the entrance to the dam’s crest. On reaching, Alex divided them into two squads and directed all of them to hold the rope in a single file, perpendicular to the feet of a nearby Earth Giant. “Squad on the left, move in from the left, and pull to the right once the rope is taut.” The soldiers nodded and continued to listen. “Squad on the right, do the exact opposite.” His eyes landed on Lieutenant Mattias, who crossed his arms and watched nervously. “Lieutenant Mattias, are you with us?” inquired Alex. Untying his arms, Mattias gave a committed reply,
“I am, sir.”
“Very well then. Lieutenant Mattias will lead the squad on the left.”
On the dam, Anna had almost made it to the exit on the far end. Unfortunately, a heavy boulder landed in her way and blocked it off. Without wasting a moment, she headed off in the opposite direction to make it back to the others. The dam was severely damaged; it began to leak. But it still stood. Maybe it was built that well. The giants stopped throwing boulders, realizing what they were being made to do. Back at the entrance to the dam’s crest, soldiers stood ready, facing the giant. Alex delivered the long-awaited command, “Prepare to charge… MARCH!”
The men and women advanced slowly but with synchronized steps, holding the long rope at both ends. “Double the pace!” instructed Alex. The troops now proceeded in quick march, closing their space with the puzzled giant at a faster speed. When he was convinced that the distance was just right, the royal sergeant roared, “CHARGE!!!”
The soldiers followed in chorus behind Alex as they charged toward the Earth Giant and let out a thunderous battle cry. It looked like the giant had certainly wondered to itself, ‘What in the world…?’
The soldiers ran right past the giant and ground to a halt behind it when the rope became taut, just as planned. Confirming that everyone was ready, Alex cried, “Now, PULL!”
With all of their might, the soldiers pulled. The Earth Giant lost its balance and tripped forward: onto the dam.
Anna watched in awe as the gigantic hand crashed into the dam right behind her. The falling giant struggled to get a foothold or handhold. Instead, it tore the dam apart as it fell its way to the bottom. The ground beneath Anna began to crumble and fall apart—she ran for her life.
Back by the entrance, the soldiers fell over one another due to the sheer force imparted by the falling giant. Alex was responsible for them; he helped them to their feet and checked if they were alright. But Mattias immediately sensed something alarming. Leaving the scene quickly, he dashed to the crumbling crest of the dam. Everything around Anna began to demolish and plummet into a watery end. Not wanting to end up having the same fate, she desperately leaped toward the entrance but failed to grab on: she began to fall—not before an emerald-green sleeve flew out of its edge and caught hold of her hand. It was Lieutenant Mattias. “I got her!” But he couldn’t pull her up all by himself; his grip started to loosen. Kristoff raced in and helped him pull Anna back up.
“Anna!” he called as he saw her hanging from the edge. He got her other hand.
“Hang on.” Both the lieutenant and Kristoff pulled her up. She sank into his arms and gasped sharply, still surprised that she made it. Kristoff held her tight.
The dam disintegrated, and a monstrous wave emerged from behind it. It started to flood the fjord. The fallen Earth Giant tried hard to swim; luck wasn’t on its side. It was pushed along with the wave but grabbed onto a cliff as it was raised by the water. Finally, it saved itself by climbing over, breathing heavily. A discharge of magical power shot up from Ahtohallan and rapidly ascended into the sky. It exploded with a brilliant flash and described an enlarged image of the symbol depicting the spirits of nature at a great height. All the spirits: Bruni, Gale, and the remainder of the Earth Giants, gazed up at the shape. Magic began to pulse through the powdery snow that made Olaf.
