A happy family?

Violet valestrom watched the birds flying outside. Every so often she would close her eyes and listen to their chirps. Her parents could tell from the look in her eyes that she wanted to play with them. The same look she had whenever she chased after a cat.

Her mother Jen Valestrom just smiled at her husband Henry Valestrom. Having been kept inside Violets skin had been pale. Violets now had a natural tan on her skin from playing outside. Violets brown hair and blue eyes had only made her look even more malnourished. She was just glad to see Violet happy and healthy. Jen remembered a time when Violet had not been well. Violets liveliness was like she is trying to make up for the lost time.

Jen then looked towards another child in the room. This child sitting in a corner and reading a book. After a quick glance, someone would notice this child looks exactly the same as Violet. Both children with the same features and appear to be about 7 years old. The only noticeable difference being that violet is currently wearing a white dress and the other a black dress.

"Poe", called Jen.

"Yes", replied the girl reading the book.

"Poe, why don't you put down that book and play with Violet? Jen inquired.

The girl looked up from her book and turned towards Jen, " because that would be a waste of my time Jenifer. My time is more important than playing games."

"What have I told you about calling me by my first name?" Jen scoffed.

"Well I am certainly not calling you mother", Poe retorted putting down her book on how to teach young children.

Henry could feel the steam rising off his wife. He honestly did not understand why his wife treated Poe this way. When Poe entered their lives Jen had been happy and determined to treat her as their daughter. The second child she always wanted but could not have.

Henry knew better though, Poe is not their child. Although he doesn't know who Poe really is, Henry was certain that this twin possessed the knowledge of a 30-year-old. A knowledgeable one for that matter. Only someone of noble blood could be so well educated. Henry was certain that whoever Poe really was, she should not be antagonized.

Violet had always been hidden from the town because of her illness. Violet was borne with half a soul. A condition feared by the locals because most people like her would eventually go insane. As they do not feel the full spectrum of emotions. In Violet's case this condition was easily noticeable. One of her symptoms being, that she possessed no shadow. Jen had been a seamstress before Henry fell in love with her. So Jen would teach Violet how to sew to pass the time.

Violets only friend being one of the local birds that would come in the window and whistle songs to her. Mimicry is a common bird that constantly copies things they think sound good. This bird that would normally be seen as a vermin showed no fear of the girl and spent a lot of time with her. Violets parents thought that Wisp the Mimicry was a good influence on her. Surely she was not the monster society thought she was.

One day 3 months ago however Violet ran away. Jen and Henry were frantic but to their surprise, Violet returned safely. Even more surprising was that Violet's illness was gone. A shadow appearing where one had not before. Violet seemed more childlike and energetic than before. Violet was feeling emotions that she never been able to experience before. It seemed a miracle had happened.

Then Violet introduced Poe to Jen and Henry. Poe was a dark contrast to Violet. Always seeming serious and depressed. Henry could only describe this look-alike as dark.

Initially, they were shocked but after a brief and annoyingly simple explanation from Violet they calmed down. Simply put Violet got better and Poe was the cause. Also, Poe was apparently a name given by Violet to her. When asked who she really was, Poe simply went quiet and sighed.

All of this aside Poe always looked out for Violet. Poe also served as Violet's tutor. Teaching her better than any teacher that Henry could afford. Usually however Violet did not have the attention span for it thou.

"That's it girls time for bed", Jen proclaimed.

Poe looked blankly at Jen, " I don't sleep."

"off to bed, now!" Jen protested with a raised voice.

Poe shrugged her shoulders and left the room with her twin. Violet skipped along as Poe was clearly aggravated by Jen.
