A Tale in Nakatau
Darkness, that was what his eyes saw. Nothing but the black color and an ominous he heard from the back of his ear. Was he having a nightmare? Was he stuck in some sort of curse? He didn’t know, but those thoughts disappeared as he heard a faint voice.
Save me!
It called out. That soft and slightly high pitched tone told him the voice was feminine. He tried to open his mouth to speak, but nothing came out of his mouth.
Save me!
It yelled again, this time a lot louder as a white dot appeared in front of him. The white dot enlarged, no, it was coming closer to him. The white dot, as it came closer to him, formed into a white figure. The figure was female, with long brown hair. She wore a white gown with her eyes closed and a despondent look on her pale face.
Save me!
The figure called but he soon woke up, breathing frantically as he looked around. The boy looked around, his face sweating. With his green eyes, he looked around as he scruff his black messy hair. He was sitting below a big tree in the middle of an open field.
He had no idea what just happened but from what he could tell it wasn’t a nightmare, it was something else. He sighed, grabbing a small pointed white hat beside him. As he put it on, he stood up, “Finally awake, eh?” a deep voice called.
The boy looked down to see a man half his size wearing green robes with the hood pulled over his head. He had a pale face with black eyes and hair. He had a short beard that didn’t go past his chin. He had a quiver behind his back with a lot of arrows stored in it. Slung in his arm was a longbow made from wood. “Let’s go, King’s callin’ us” he continued, hollering his arms.
The boy didn’t hesitate and follow the Halfling, leading him to a horse tied to another tree in the middle of an open field. “How was sleep, lad?” the Halfling asked.
The boy grumbled and held his face, “I saw a weird vision of this girl” he replied as he grabbed the Halfling and lifted him up the horse. “She was asking me to save her” he continued as he got on the horse himself.
“I think you sniffed a fairy’s shite, Vincent” the Halfling called, wrapping his arms around the boy’s waist as he gripped on the reigns tightly.
He pulled it slightly, making the horse move slowly, “Come on, Theodore, you know us Wizards get these sometimes” Vincent replied, smiling back at the Halfling. “This is my first time, though” he continued, frowning.
Theodore grinned, “Don’t worry about it, lad, worry about what the King wants us to do!” he said, patting Vincent’s back. “Gods know I’ve been itching for another quest to kill a beast!” he said, staring at his hands as his fingers moved around.
“I don’t want to have another quest with me having to save your careless ass” Vincent mumbled, staring down at the ground as he made the horse run faster.
Theodore frowned, “Now is that a way to talk to older people?” he asked.
Vincent smiled, “Oh right, I forgot you’re fifty years older than me” he snickered, making a small grin as they left the field and entered a small cobblestone path that was surrounded by trees.
“That’s right, lad! Also don’t forget that I taught you how to survive when you were just a graduate” Theodore continued.
“I know, I know” Vincent shrugged as the horse went faster. Soon, they left the shaded area and stared at a massive kingdom in front of them. Even if they were still far away, they could already see the massive white castle with red cone-like roves. But it was not just the castle that could be seen, some of the tall houses or buildings of the city could also be seen.

Most of them had brown walls with black brick roves on top of them. Some had gray walls and some were still undergoing construction with carpenters scattered around the building. “Nakatau, city of heroes” Vincent mumbled as they head towards the massive city.
The guards didn’t stop the pair, letting them pass easily. As they got inside, they saw a better look of the city as the horse travelled through the cobblestone path. Most of the houses were made of wood with black brick roves on top of them. Most had their windows opened while some had everything completely shut. A majority of the houses had at least one person hanging around outside but there were a portion where it looked like it was completely abandoned.
“Today’s not so busy, huh?” Vincent called, staring back at Theodore who was eyeing a pair of girls with massive chests. “Theo” Vincent growled, glaring at him as he made an attracted face.
“What do you think lad? Those girls look like they’re in their twenties” he said, staring smugly at Vincent.
He frowned angrily, “I will punch your face, old man, if you don’t stop thinking about those girls” he threatened.
Theodore pouted, folding his arms, “Fine” he shrugged, “And to answer your question: the King has temporarily closed all trades because of an issue with a neighboring kingdom” he replied, “How come you didn’t know this? It was announced a week ago!”
Vincent stared ahead, “I was at the library last week, I was training so I didn’t get any news” he said as they passed by another gate, the guards didn’t stop them again. The horse stopped as they stared at a pair of massive wooden doors.
“Alright lad, let’s head in” Theodore spoke as Vincent got off his horse. Vincent held up his hands as Theodore jumped off the horse, the Wizard grabbing him and laying his feet softly down at the ground. “Ya know you don’t need to do that right, lad?” he said, staring up at the Wizard.
Vincent smirked, “Yeah, no, I have to do it. You might die of heights if I didn’t” he teased. Before Theodore could even retort, Vincent headed straight to the door, pushing it open.
The throne room was as white as the walls of the castle. It had about a dozen pillars that held the very high ceiling together. The pillars all had red flags, bearing an insignia of the kingdom. Hanging from the ceiling were chandeliers with about a hundred candles each. Its windows were stained glass with pictures of historical events. There were guards in each corner and the two doors at the sides. All the guards were heavily armed, each equipped with the best weapons the kingdom had.
Vincent stared down at the stone tiled floor, seeing a long red carpet that led to the other end of the room. The other end had a small staircase that led to a white throne.
Sitting on the throne was none other than the king of Nakatau. He was still at his prime. He had brown hair that reached up to his shoulder. His eyes were blue and like Theodore, he had a beard that didn’t go past his chin. He wore a very stern look as Vincent approached and kneeled before him.
“Rise, young Wizard” the King said sternly.
Vincent rose, holding his head up high as he stared at the king’s stern eyes. Even if he tried to hide it, he could see that the King was sad, borderline depressed. The King smirked, “I assume you have no clue as to why I called you, am I right?” he asked, walking down the steps and placing his hand on Vincent’s shoulder.
“Lord Kronos, I am more than ready to receive the mission you wish to bestow upon us” Vincent said humbly, staring directly at his despondent eyes. He could feel this mission would be personal, he had never seen the King’s eyes express this much emotion.
Kronos smiled, lowering his hand, “As you know, I have a daughter named Ophilia. She lives in the sister kingdom of Nakatau and is also my most beloved out of my two offsprings” he spoke, walking back to the throne.
Vincent nodded, “Ophilia of Gladii” he spoke. “Daughter of the hero of Nakatau, Kronos, and the snake of Gladii, Yasu” he continued.
Kronos nodded, “Vincent, my daughter’s trapped in Gladii. My wife has sided with Vizorak of the mages guild and is now plotting to take over Nakatau” he said, sharply turning around and staring back at Vincent. “I need you, Vincent, to go on a journey from here to Gladii to rescue my daughter” he said, walking down again and shaking Vincent by his shoulders.
Vincent frowned, “No offense your majesty, but, why not just have Miguel do it?” he asked, lifting one finger up.
“It brings me to my next point, you and Theodore will not travel alone, you will be accompanied by my son” he said, smiling down at Vincent as he lowered his arms again.
Then the door to the left opened and a teenager at the same age as Vincent came out. He was clad in silver armor over a black shirt. He had a pale skin tone with emerald green eyes and short black hair. “There he is!” Vincent said, smiling as the boy walked forward.
“It seems adventure called us again” Miguel spoke, smiling at Vincent.
“Vincent, you cannot use your portal magic to go to Gladii, Vizorak has created a barrier that does not allow magic to be used in, out, or in the vicinity” Kronos explained, sitting down at the throne.
“I understand, your Majesty” Vincent politely bowed.
Kronos nodded, “I have to stay here and defend my kingdom and my people. We only have two months Vincent, so go!” he said.
With that, Vincent and Miguel turned around and ran straight to the door. There, Theodore waited patiently, standing beside the horse.
Theodore smiled, “Oh hey! You’re ba-”
“We have to move!” Vincent abruptly said, lifting Theodore up and placing him on top of the horse.
Miguel frowned, “Meet me outside the city, I will prepare my things” he said, quickly running away as Vincent got on his horse and nodded.
“Where are we going, lad?” Theodore asked, staring up at Vincent who swiftly grabbed on the reigns tightly, pulling it which made the horse run fast.
“Gladii” Vincent said.
Theodore frowned, “Gladii? The hell are we going to do there?” he asked as they swiftly passed by the town. The lack of anybody or anything at the road made it faster for them to travel and finally step out of the gate. “Vincent!” he yelled as the horse stopped abruptly, making both of them lean forward.
Vincent stared back at Theodore, “We’re going to save Ophilia from Vizorak” he said sternly, glaring at the gate as Miguel slowly caught up.
“Ophilia? Vizorak? Are you saying we’re actually going to do something other than killing monsters?” he asked, a confused look on his face as he scratched his head.
Vincent nodded, “We can’t get there through portal because Vizorak made a magic barrier and we only have two months before he starts mobilizing his forces and attack Nakatau” he explained.
Miguel caught up, smiling at them as he rode a white horse with light armor, “Are we ready, Vincent?” he asked.
Vincent smiled, “Yes”
