A Spy's Rise to Stardom
18 Murder In The Hotel

18 Murder In The Hotel

Jungsu sat down, munching on a carrot, deciding that he'd had far too much sugar for one day. Still, even the carrot managed to taste good with the salmon he stuffed into his mouth. Jungsu loved salmon. It was his favourite type of meat, but was often a luxury to eat. He didn't really like other meats, except for the occasional chicken. He'd yet to try Korean Barbeque chicken. He had high hopes.

He'd set up the camera so that it was currently recording him, however, with a lack of viewers watching at the moment, he was lost on what to do or say. Jungsu preferred livestreaming.

"Carrots are a very healthy addition to any meal." Jungsu said to nobody as he ate in silence. "They are good for your heart, your immune system, digestion, your eyes, and your skin.

Munching on some kale, he said, "They even help regulate blood sugar levels which is very important, otherwise the body grows resistant to insulin." He paused as he took another bite of salmon.

"Resistance to insulin can lead to type two diabetes, so it's crucial that we manage our sugar intake."

Jungsu looked into the camera as he swallowed some brocolli.

"I ate too much sugar today." He said with a regretful look on his face.

"I don't know what it is about Korea, but, it really makes me want to eat everything all at once." He paused in his words, frowning.

"The food looks like it has been polished and groomed. And for what? To end up in my stomach?"

Jungsu shook his head at that, continuing eating in silence.

Then, he heard the knock on the door indicating that whoever had been following him, had finally figured out his room number.

"Who is it?" He asked before silently moving towards the door.

"Room service!" The man called back.

Jungsu threw open the door.

The man was standing there with a pistol cocked in his hands, waiting for Jungsu to open the door. Jungsu ducked down and sped towards the man, not giving him a chance to fire as he swept his hand up, pushing the gun up and into his hands. Holding the gun to the man's head, he shook his head at the shock and blatant fear on his face.

"Well," Jungsu said, "what did you think would happen? Who bothered sending you to be killed?"

"S-se-seven..." The man stuttered, still in shock.

"Yes, that's me." Jungsu offered him a smile while his eyes remained empty.

"Only one man, huh?" Jungsu said as he glanced around, then narrowed his eyes as he saw something on the man's clothes.

Taking off the tracker, he looked into the camera attatched with it. Narrowing his eyes, he crushed it in between his fist and hauled the man inside by his collar.

The man was shaking now as Jungsu passed the camera and turned it off before sitting the man down at the table.

Jungsu, placing the gun down in the middle of the table, leaned back in his seat. His lips twitched as he saw the man's eyes move from the gun at the center of the table, to Jungsu's relaxed stance. The man kept still, not daring to move despite Jungsu's open invitation.

"Is killing me all you were sent for? The general must be growing slow in his old age. It was the general who sent you, was it not?" Jungsu asked.

"Y-yes!" The man answered readily.

Jungsu narrowed his eyes as he thought of what the general must have wanted from him. Both Jungsu and the general knew that a single man was nowhere near enough to kill him. Yet still, he sent him with a camera and tracker at that.

Jungsh had his suspicions that it might be the general's daughter who had sent the man. She'd had quite the hobby of spying on him. She'd given him hell for years, always lurking about with judgmental eyes that seemed to seep into his skin, making his stomach turn. He knew what she did to other recruits who failed to complete their missions. The general didn't seem to mind so long as his daughter was happy.

Jungsu was lucky to have escaped from her brutal treatment. He'd often found small cameras in his room though, as if being tested by her. She would grin at him the day after once he'd remove them after spotting them immediately.

Small cameras?...

Jungsu felt his blood run cold as he now understood why he hadn't been able to find the culprit behind the hidden cameras in the villa. Nor had he been able to find a connection to a device.

"So you're one of Leeseo's lackeys." Jungsu eyes grew cold as the man began to panic.

"N-no. I'm-"

"Dead if you lie to me." Jungsu gritted his teeth, wishing to be rid of the bitter taste in his mouth.

"I see how it is." Jungsu nodded calmly. "Leeseo sent you here to kill me. But we both know you wouldn't succeed."

The man swallowed as he started shaking in his chair.

Jungsu picked up his chopsticks and grabbed some rice and salmon. Chewing slowly, he looked at the man in pity as he looked ready to pass out.

"What is she holding against you?" Jungsu asked.

The man remained silent.

"Relax. I've done plenty of horrible things. I'm sure you've heard of them." Jungsu grinned as he stabbed into the salmon.

"W-well," the man hesitated before continuing on with the encouraging nod Jungsu threw him.

"Y-you know how it is. I killed a woman. She had it coming for her though, she was looking at me with those eyes...you know what I mean. She was just begging to-"

The man stopped as he noticed that Jungsu was no longer smiling.

Jungsu exhaled slowly, figuring that even the lackey of that woman would be as rotten as she was.

He looked at him silently for a moment before slamming the chopstick down into his hands.

The man was about to let out a scream when the other chopstick was thrown at him, finding its way to his vital point. The man was now clutching at his throat, his eyes bulging as blood flowed down his neck in a steady stream. He fell to the ground, and Jungsu stood up above him, sighing as he man struggled to fill his lungs with air. He crawled away from Jungsu, while he simply watched him.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"I hadn't planned on killing you. Maybe if you hadn't opened your mouth..." Jungsu ran a hand down his face, dragging down the splatters of blood on his cheeks.

"You know, I had to film something today. Now what will I show them?"

The man gurgled, throwing more blood onto the floor and Jungsu rubbed his jaw in irritation.

He would have to dispose of the body, but first he had to clean up. Thankfully, he'd already removed the carpets form the room before he started eating so he would only have to clean the floors. Still, it was a relief that nobody would be looking for the man. That was the advantage of killing a spy.

The man had stopped breathing now, and Jungsu looked down at his shirt, which had thankfully only been slightly stained. Since it was a dark colour however, it wouldn't really show.

He washed his face thoroughly and made sure there were no visible marks of blood on him.

Stepping outside of his room, he placed a do not disturb sign on the doorknob. Closing the door behind him, he pressed the elevator button and waited in silence. It was only a moment before the elevator dinged and he stepped inside, finding a boy standing in the corner. The boy glanced up from his phone and then looked down, before slowly lifting his head up again, his eyes wide in disbelief. Jungsu nodded his head at the boy and turned around to press on the fifth floor.

He could hear the boy's increased breathing, and looked down at himself. There had been no blood when he checked in the mirror, but he could've missed a spot. Still he spotted nothing.

"Y-you..." The boy trailed off and Jungsu glanced back at him in question.

"You're the fire-spinning squirrel whisperer!!" He whispered loudly.

Jungsu raised his brows at the title he had been given and nodded his head silently.

"Can I have a picture with you?" The boy sounded so hopeful that Jungsu wanted to ask him in the moment why he would want a photo. He refrained from doing so as the boy's hopeful eyes would've surely teared up at his words.

"Sure. " He says instead and waited as the boy pulled out his phone and raised it up. Jungsu squatted down as he waited with a blank look on his face as the boy clicked the selfie.

"Thank you Mr. Squirrel whisperer!" He practically jumped in joy. Jungsu had felt a little better when his title had changed to a more respectable Mr. Squirrel whisperer.

He waved goodbye once his floor arrived, watching as the door shut on the boy's wide grin.

Walking towards the janitors closet, one he had already located before they arrived at the hotel, he slowed down as he noticed the man he was looking for walking towards the closet. As he passed by him, Jungsu swiftly knocked down a pair of keys from his car that silently fell into his hands and on the floor. The man kept walking, not having noticed the keys. Jungsu looked after the man, moving his lips as he called out the man silently. He waited a beat before grabbing the keys from the floor and walking after the man, catching the door before it closed shut with his foot. Waking inside, he saw the man startled and looked at him.

"I noticed your keys fell from your cart." He said as he held them up.

"Oh! I didn't even notice! Thank you very much!"

"It's not a problem. " Jungsu smiled as he handed over the keys and turned to leave.

The man also turned around in that moment, and Jungsu quickly kicked his foot out. The metal bars of the cabinet along the wall came tumbling, and the man let out a startled sound before Jungsu quickly jabbed his hand along the back of the man's neck. He caught the cabinet and placed it back along the wall as he held the man in his one arm. He slowly placed the unconscious man down on the ground.

He didn't have much time so he stripped the man. He was of similar stature to Jungsu, but a bit larger in some areas. Quickly stripping himself, he threw on the janitor's clothes and lowered the man's cap over his head.

Rolling the cart into the elevator, he moved back up to his floor.

The body was exactly where he left it, and the room showed no indications of anyone having been inside. Quickly picking up the body, he put the body inside a garbage bag and lifted it under the cart. There was only a little bit of the bag peeking under the cart, so Jungsu would simply try to avoid the cameras on one side of the hall.

Picking up his phone, he started texting Ofifcer Hyun-su but then stopped.

Help me bury a body.

He sent to Ara, then he quickly sent his address after.

He waited a minute before the reply came.

What??!

Jungsu laughed silently, then offered no response, as he figured she was already on the move. She was smart enough to know that he was serious.

Jungsu took the elevator down to the basement and moved out the backdoor. Hauling the bag out of the alley, he placed it into the garbage bin.

Jungsu was then moved back inside the building and made his way to the janitors closet. He had done a sloppy job, but he wasn't concerned. Rather he almost felt as if he wanted to be caught. Perhaps he was getting too bored.

Opening the Janitor's closet, he changed back into his clothes and changed the man into his, before lowering the closet onto the ground by the janitor's head. Slapping the man slightly on his cheeks, the man startled awake after which Jungsu explained to him that he had been hit by the cabinet.

The man thanked him to which Jungsu almost frowned at the man's lack of suspicion. He held his smile in place and waved goodbye.

As Jungsu made his way back downstairs, he felt his phone vibrating.

Where are you?

Jungsu swallowed, carefully hiding a grin as he spotted Ara standing at the front of the lobby, wearing an anxious look on her face.

She spotted him, still wearing the same inconspicuous, yet not so inconspicuous outfit, and moved towards him.
