chapter 1: the 11th summoning

chapter 1: the 11th summoning

"11th time's is the charm?" I question myself. “After all it can't possibly be three.” A wave of embarrassment hits me again even thinking about it. I didn't think that some realities would summon me and expect me to think of a form. The resulting mess was… surprising. I pull my thoughts away from that and focus on what's a hand.

I started to feel a new connection or pull. Honestly, the void is quite confusing or perhaps simple. Even defining how to define it is difficult. The few things that I can tell is that there's definitely no space, not to mean that it's crowded but there's no… continuation? In fact, I don't think there's even time, which begs the question of how I'm thinking.

"Focus!” I told myself hoping it would get me back on track.

A 'pulling' sensation began but, towards no discernible direction. I felt this 10 times before. I try my best to ‘reach’ for it. My soul is drawn to it 'through' the chaos that is in between realities, or at least that's what I assume. My assumption is based on my 8th summoning which, there didn't seem to be any gravity, just a lot of floating rocks or Islands. My 2nd summoning also had a system informing me that I died, that didn't happen with any of the others.

“Focus!” I repeat to myself.

I start feeling the existence of the reality ahead. I mentally prepare myself for anything. I feel myself moving out into the world while simultaneously remaining still. The spaceless void and the reality filled with it conflict with each other in my senses. My disorientation builds up to a snap. Suddenly I find myself split but connected like some form of quantum entanglement. If I focus I can still sense the void where I was… or am at?

Pushing the strange sensation away, I look around for anything. Only trees, no enemies, in fact, I don't see anyone. No Summoner? I begin looking around for what brought me here, to see nothing. Wait, there is something but it just disappeared. Must have been a riff but it was a lot smaller than the others that I came out of. Admittedly I only came out of two others.

Wait, I don't have a body! Finally not focusing outward, I sense my anchor surrounded by the mystical energies in this reality. The energies are flowing around my anchor seemingly drawn to it like I was here. They actually seem to be many different ones all conflicting with each other or merging. Focusing on the larger clumps I try to get a feel for them.

Snakes, squirrels, a dear, a human, bugs, and other stuff. I kind of can sense them almost like blueprints. Or perhaps it would be better to say what they were. Focus. The bug is the strangest after all it's not one creature but multiple pressed together. Has three segments that look like they came from different bugs vaguely adapted for each other, wings that are not big enough, and two large eyes with two tiny ones in the back of the head. The squirrels and snakes aren't as bad.

What happens if I do nothing with the... 'life essence', will I become a mixture of those animals and the human? That may actually end up worse than my 3rd summoning. Perhaps I can try to influence it? I focus on the bugs which is definitely something I don't want. Focusing I begin to peel away and break it down.

There, that should be enough. I sense the other essences that began to merge more and become less discernible. The snake essence seems to be taking over the squirrel but also merging. The deer seems to be stronger though, merging with what essences I couldn't discern earlier but, now can tell were plants. The human seems a little bit more hairy and those are definitely not human nails. Now what?

I can become a leafy deer, legged snake, and wild human. I have an obvious preference. But can I preserve the wild human, after all, it took a while just to break down the essence of those bugs? It doesn't help that the leafy deer is quite a bit more powerful. I suppose I can only try my best, I can't mess up that badly right?

I maneuvered the leafy deer and legged snake essence to come in contact. Then I maneuvered the wild human essence to come in contact with the deer. I do my best trying to help the human essence but it still Influenced by deer. The hair becomes leafy but most of it is subdermal. At the very least I managed to prevent it from affecting the face although now focusing on it does look a little weird, I can't quite put my finger on it though. Now time for the legged snake.

...

When they completely merged together it began. The mist solidifies into a core, then quickly mist flows out of the core. It seems to be instinctual for the essence. The core begins to shrink as if forms a body of mist in the shape of a human. I pay close attention to how the mist dissipates into bone, flesh, and leaves. Yes leaves, although it does at least look a little bit like hair. Or grass?

I sigh in relief that nothing got messed up this time. Only seeing trees and hearing birds, I begin to walk in the forest.
