In a place in space, far away from stars and planets, a lonely colony ship glides through the existence of the sweet nothingness. The engines glimmering in a weak light and the hull ornamented with various holes from different weapon. Yet the ship still paves the way forward.
On the bridge, the last survivor, watches devoid of life. No longer human, but part machine, waiting for change that will never come.
Silently moving through the floors unhindered by gravity, in deep trance, unbelieving of the present. Memories of the past flowing through the mind, destruction and suffering. Also the past of home, of a dying planet, yet beautiful till the last whisper.
A soldier, an explorer, a loner and now… a ship and its captain. Chosen by the last survivors, not because he fitted the best, but because no one wanted it. Hated till the end, he acquired immortality, for the price of a whole race.
Day 350.
It’s been more than a year in Terran time, since I’ve become the ship. The generators will hold for at least 500 years or more due to the fact that I have deactivated anything irrelevant except the main server and some repair droids. I’m moving at proximately Mach 2 and the nearest star is about 3 parsec away. Only way for me to survive this time would be going into a standby mode, but I don’t trust this old body of mine to survive in this state.
Until the last hope is safe and my hull repaired I will stay awake watching the never changing stars.
End of submission, shutting down record.

Day 521.
The hull is now fixed and half of the interior is gone. Except for my core systems and the Gene bank everything was salvaged to repair the hull. I’m more of a flying hull than a colony ship. I’m setting up a subroutine that will allow me to watch over the state of the bank while asleep. If this fails… Heh… I’m not even sure what to do then, after all this is the last will, the last hope…
I will return once I’m in a good distance to the next star, I hope the generators survive until then.

Day 152359.
The guard subroutines were activated and my sleep was canceled. A small ship of salvagers managed to find me. They thought I was deactivated so they entered me and wanted to cut me in pieces, to bad my guards got rid of them so fast that I couldn’t even interrogate them. Their system was a bit outdated compared to mine, but I’m still downward compatible, took me three day cycles to install their systems into my free space. Now at least I have enough to last till next star.

I took their Genetic material out of interest and compared it to my database, what I found didn’t surprised me much. Genetic compatibility was zero percent and nothing was even closely related to them. I’ll keep their data for later even though I don’t know what to do with it.

Day 200000.
My anniversary of being an immortal was today. If not for my sleep and the salvagers that try to take over me, I’d have gone insane. To honor this day I used the salvaged weapons and rockets to make a small firework. Although they missed the color it was still nice to watch. I also managed to break open the DNA codes, I now can create living beings from nothing. In theory. Practically as long as I don’t have a planet with a constant energy source, I won’t be even able to build the machines I need.
Thinking about this now, I could create me a biological body and interact with the world in a more engaging way… I should stop thinking about this since it will take some time until I can even try to do that.
End of submission, shutting down record.

Day 285621.
I had to activate the thrusters to escape total destruction. It seems like my luck got the better of me since I ended up meeting a derelict space station of sorts. Surprising wasn’t the fact that it was dead, but that the generators were still active on a minimum output using some sort of force that isn’t registered by my systems. My journey will need to be paused for now. Although it hurts me to use more energy than needed on my science labs I feel that I won’t regret it once I get to understand what type of energy this station used.
If I managed to get the basic understanding I will probably be able to cut down the traveling time by 90%.
