Many Many Screens

CH 2

I woke up in a bit of a daze. It’s hard, when everything you know suddenly doesn’t matter and is replaced with something else. You sort of disconnect. But of course reality hits sooner or later.

In that dark void where there was nothing but that screen straight from a video game, I never fully registered it. But now, after the threat of death and now waking up to the world as a whole, I definitely felt how real it all is now. I could feel the crisp wind on my skin and see the colorful plants through the area and I knew it was not Earth anymore. This is Gambresh.

  And I am a Dragon.

My body twitched, yet again struggling to respond to my command. I guess I was a baby, so that’s par for the course at least. My head and eyes worked at least. Still sucks, especially as I was very much paralyzed in an unfamiliar location.

I looked around and took in the foreign lands I found myself in. I laid on a tree stump, a massive one that must have spanned several meters in either direction. Laying next to me was probably the shards of my egg. They looked like shards of colored glass, but the color changed and shifted, mainly to purple, green and other water colors. The flora around me was similarly huge, massive colorful flowers whose petals could completely blanket my body, and grass that reached the height of 2 story houses. The trees above me reached toward the clouds like skyscrapers. The wonders of a magical world! I can’t wait to see the animals!

I twitched my leg. Actually that could wait, I needed to start fucking moving before anything else. I could feel some pieces of my body developing feeling, mainly my stomach and… legs? As in, more than 2. More than 4 actually, I have 6! They felt long and spindly, even less meat on them than I had in my skinny human body.

Wait…. 6 legs, forest, massive flora. I was putting some pieces together and I didn’t like what I was getting. I reached my senses to the rest of my body and I got to… wings. There’s nothing else on my back that it could be. I went to move them, and I felt it. They were paper thin and larger than all of the rest of my body.

It also put the nail in the coffin for my situation. The plants here aren’t big, I’m just tiny. I’m a fucking insect!

Here I was, hopped up on the promise of being some big cool fire breathing lizard, but no! I get to be a tiny fucking butterfly that can’t even move her fucking legs!

Before I could continue my tirade, another screen popped up.

Congratulations!

You have reached maturity!

You may now access your Status!

… Well that was fast. I do hope that doesn’t bode ill for my lifespan. Getting the short end of the fucking stick as always. But a status page? This world really is a game. Or I guess that’s a bad way to look at it. It behaves like a game, but I doubt that I’d just lose hit points if I get cut by a sword.

Congratulations!

You have reached the minimum level of sapience needed to access a Class!

Now that just feels mocking. But I should most definitely open my stats and see what’s what.

It didn’t carry over my name? And my race didn’t have one either. This… is an opportunity I guess. I got to… reinvent myself.

As if reincarnating as a fucking insectoid dragon didn’t already do that, but my mental adjustment definitely needed some help.

But back to my stats, my body is fucking abysmal. Even if I had no clue what the standard is here, that number was not good. On the bright side, I hopefully won’t need a good body (unlike on Earth). It’s very clear my stats are more spell oriented, even if I have no real clue on what Spirit does.

Spirit

Spirit allows you to resist spells and see through magical effects. This also affects how you interact with the Spirit Realm.

Oh sweet, it will just tell me.

Spirit is my highest attribute and seemingly intertwined with most of my skills, which leaves me with many questions that this didn’t answer. Like what the fuck is the Spirit Realm and how the fuck am I interacting with it. I’ll probably have to figure that out myself. And the lesson will probably be painful, because messing with mystical forces you have no idea how to handle always goes well.

Wisdom

Wisdom increases the size of your mana pool and helps you sense mana. This also helps spell stability.

Intelligence

Intelligence increases your spells power and your control over mana. This also increases the amount of time spells can stay active.

This is about what I expected from these stats. Very basic, but no less useful, especially as I’ll be needing to rely on them a lot.

As soon as I, y’know, learn how to use them. A tutorial would have been welcome.

Strength

Strength increases your physical capabilities and pain tolerance. It also increases damage from martial skills.

Agility

Agility increases your body speed and coordination. It also increases the speed of your martial skills.

Endurance

Endurance increases your stamina pool and resistance to damage. It also helps resist status effects.

Fucking hell the low numbers are causing me mental pain. I’m ok with strength being my dump stat but goddamn the endurance is the worst. Not being able to exert myself is an utterly hellish drawback. I’ll need to get that up… when I figure out how to.

SP

SP stands for skill points. You gain these by leveling up or completing difficult tasks. You can use these to buy skills that you qualify for.

Hey look I found out how to.

AP

AP stands for ability points. You gain these by leveling up or completing difficult tasks. You can use these to increase your stats.

Ah, now that’s what I like to see. Not exactly a free meal, “qualify” either means I need to be able to do the skill already or there’s just a simple level requirement. One’s gonna make it way easier for me when I get some points, but I won’t hold my breath. But my excitement of what sort of weird magic shit I can do is at an all time high.

Next up is race. I mean, I can guess what Race is, but what is my race?

[ ]

[ ] is the newest race of dragons. They are incredibly fragile in their physical forms. However, their bodies are merely vessels for their incredibly powerful spiritual forms. Their magical power can rival an apprentice mage from birth. They have a natural attunement to Arcane mana, which only adds to their raw power. They are a naturally curious species who often travel from place to place.

They subsist solely on mana and are asexual, creating eggs in the Spirit Realm which then hatch in the Physical Realm. They are ageless, as their true form is in the Spirit realm. Their natural mana regeneration is incredibly potent.

Ooooookay. A lot in there. The most important bit is how newborns can rival beginner mages. That gives me some standards of this world. My magic stats are around the level of a mage, and my physical stats are shit. However, I am also level 1 with no class, something I assume doesn’t apply to them. I was basically born min-maxed, which isn’t terrible by itself, but not knowing how to use my supposed powers still makes me useless. And I still don’t know just how powerful magic is in this world. Can level 1 mages barely manipulate mana or can they explode mountains with their minds? Something I am eager to find out. Also I really need to find out how to fill that blank.

As for being asexual… yup. My junk is gone. Although it makes sense given I am literally the only one of my kind and I’m expected to make more. Gotta figure that whole thing out. Goddamn there is a lot of shit I need to work on.

Essence

Essence is what drives the force of your power. It is the piece of your soul that fuels your desire for growth and pushes you to new heights. Skills related to your Essence will be slightly more powerful and actions related to it will give you more EXP.

The strength of your Essence grows with your ambition.

Interesting, and exciting considering my Essence. For the most part because it proves to myself that this isn’t just some whim for me. It’s a genuine need for fulfillment. I have what it takes to do this. I have more than a little ambition… I think. I dunno, that crap is hard to quantify.

Adventure

Adventure Essence rewards the daring. Traveling to new locations and facing dangerous enemies reduces stamina drain and increases the power of your skills.

About what I expected, though the stamina buff is desperately needed. There’s also a rarity system, which just by looking at it is definitely the common, uncommon, rare, etc, thing. Adventure is common, which I actually consider a good sign, means this world should be full of interesting people.

Class

A Class is your way of accomplishing your goals, whatever they may be. A Class represents your toolset and problem solving skills. Performing certain actions a certain way will allow access to a class.

Again, about what I expected. I also have an option to look at my available classes. As tempted as I am, I’ll hold off. I want to learn how to use the powers I have before getting new ones. Plus I haven’t actually done anything yet to warrant a cool class.

Mana

Mana represents the energy you have for manipulating magic and casting spells. Mana regeneration is dictated by the amount of ambient magic in the area as well as your race and class.

Stamina

Stamina represents the amount of energy you can expend before exhaustion. Stamina regeneration depends on natural physical fitness as well as your race and class.

Standard stuff.I can guess what Status Effects are, but Achievements?

Achievements

Achievements are acknowledgements of great feats you have achieved, often accompanied by bonuses.

Nice, and I already seem to have one.

World Hopper

You have come from a different reality, an increadibly rare occurance. You shall be given the perk of universal language comprehension to help you find your way.

Oh damn, I forgot about a language barrier. Thanks god-like system for solving that problem for me! I'm shit at learning that stuff.

Now I do the skills. Gonna save Wish Granter for last, because that’s gonna be a lot no doubt.

Arcane Affinity

The Arcane is the purest form of magic, untainted and is the most deeply connected to the Spirit Realm. This makes Arcane magic fairly rare in the Physical Realm, as the environment influences the magic. Arcane magic is also very unstable, requiring a great amount of control to use, but it is much more potent than other magic types.

Ooooo, this is nice. I wonder how much shit I can blow up with this.

Spirit Sense

This skill allows the caster to sense the spirits of others. Spell level increases range you can sense as well as accuracy. More powerful spirits will be easier to detect.

Hmm, not directly powerful, but it has the potential to be. I think. A detection spell is always good, but I still don’t know what exactly a spirit is. I mean, there are thousands of interpretations on Earth so I don't know how that’s gonna manifest here. I imagine it has something to do with the Spirit Realm, but I don’t have any idea what that is either.

Spirit Walk

This skill allows you to see into the spirit realm itself, and even wander with your spirit separate from your body.

I have no idea what to think of this. The text is pretty blunt with its abilities while still being kinda vague. I guess I’ll just have to use it to find out.

And now for the most important skill, the reason why I’m here. I try to analyze the skill. And I am promptly met with another entire system interface.
