Chapter 3

The morning light filled the room when she opened her eyes. She drowsily sat up and looked around, her black hair all over the place on one side from her heavy sleep. For a moment, she was disoriented. Where was she?

Then the memories came flooding back and she sighed. She heaved the heavy blankets off of her and got out of bed; the cold floor meeting her bare feet made her quickly run to the bathroom.

She got ready for the day, still not sure what to do about using the things of Jon's daughter. She felt like a huge ball of anxiety as she used the expensive products. Though she had to admit that her face felt so much cleaner and better using them.

She straightened her hair, which had curled from being wet. With the annoying untangling part out of the way, she was eager to straighten it. Jay looked like her usual self when she finished.

She had dark brown eyes that were gazing back at her with anticipation and worry in the mirror. Her long black hair was swept to the left side with the right buzzed off. The day she had gotten this hairstyle had been awful. Her mom had been infuriated. It had resulted in a horrible beating but Jay had refused to change it.

When even after several beatings she kept it, her mom gave up. It had all happened a year ago now and the style had become part of her. She would hate to get rid of it.

She touched her cheek. To think that at one point, it had been so bruised and swollen that she didn't recognize herself at all. Her gaze traveled down to her pjs. As much as she would like to just be lazy and relax after all that happened last night, there were things she wanted to know and Jon had all the answers.

Halting her awful memories with a forced blanking of her mind, she went into the walk-in closet. She had a hard time deciding what to wear. Uncomfortable with wearing any of the dresses, she chose a black graphic tee and black jeans after a bit. The clothes fit to a degree. They were a bit loose due to her low weight.

She stepped out of the closet and starting to panic a bit. She looked over at the call button. She wanted to be able to get around on her own but she had no idea where anything was in the huge mansion. Hoping she wouldn't be a bother, she took a breath and pressed it.

Her stomach growled with hunger as she waited. It wasn't long before a knock sounded at the door. She opened the door and was greeted by Kyle. "Good morning, Miss Jay. I'm glad to see you look much better than you did last night."

Jay nodded shyly. "Yes, thank you for taking me in."

"It's no problem at all. A friend of Jon's is a friend of mine." Her stomach growled loudly at that moment and Jay's face turned red with embarrassment. Kyle laughed a bit. "I'll take you to the dining room. Jon has stepped out to go pick up his daughter from the airport so he will not be joining you."

"Alright. Thank you." Jay's mind became a total mess again. His daughter was coming back and she was staying in her room? She felt bad for using her things even though it had been okay. Though the products she had used a little of were something she wasn't sure about.

She followed Kyle through the mansion to the a beautiful dining room. The table was long and there was a place being set up for her as they entered. The two maids finished setting it up and smiled at her. They bowed.

"Hello, Miss Jay. Welcome to Cloud Mansion. My name is Marie and this is my sister, Annie," the brunette spoke. "We hope you will come to like it here."

Cloud Mansion? She couldn't help but find the name peculiar. Was Jon's last name Cloud or was that just the name of the mansion? "Thank you," Jay responded, realizing she had almost forgotten to reply.

Annie pulled the chair out for her and Jay took a seat. The smell of the food before her was amazing and the food itself looked delicious. It was a hearty meal of sausage, eggs, toast, a couple of small crepes with berries and whipped cream, and hot tea. She cut into the sausage and took a bite.

It was perfectly juicy and seasoned. Rich people live a totally different life as I expected. She felt like she was in food heaven. Normally her meals were made of bad food back with her mom. There were even days where she would be starved unless she slipped out and stole food.

To Kyle, Marie, and Annie, she definitely looked like she had been starved. She was skinny and looked like she could be blown away by the wind. They had learned through Jon what she had been through and had made a promise to give her a much better life here.

Jay enjoyed the meal and her stomach felt fuller than it ever had before. It was only after she was led away to be given a tour by Kyle that she thought about how she may have looked to them while eating. She had hoped she hadn't eaten weirdly.

But the three only seemed to be happy that she had eaten. It was strange being treated so kindly. She was used to being treated like she was nothing more than dirt. She wasn't sure how she would ever fit in among them.

There was no going back now. She was going to see this through. She refused to go back to that awful life. She had finally been given a hand of help and she wanted to never let it go. She hoped their kindness would never fade.
