Chapter 12 - The Machine of Permanence

Inside The Veil – A Short, Necessary Conversation

Alphabela landed hard.

Not on the ground—because there was no ground.

The Veil wasn't a place. It was a correction.

It was where things went when they didn't belong.

And Feast—or whatever she really was—hadn't belonged for a long time.

She stood there, barefoot on the shifting nothingness, her black-lined eyes scanning Alphabela.

"You were breaking," Feast said.

Alphabela clenched her jaw. "I was following orders."

Feast smirked. "Exactly."

A pause.

Then—

"I won't break again," Alphabela said.

"Good."

And just like that—The Veil let her go.

Live From No Nation – The Death of a President

The bunker wasn't silent.

It was buzzing, electric, tight with breath and tension.

The screen flickered.

Hit-her was dead.

His skull caved in like wet paper.

Blood pooling on live television.

The world was watching.

And so was B.O.R.I.S.

He stepped into Httoq.

And the room went still.

B.O.R.I.S Halts the Mobilization

Remo had already grabbed his jacket.

Lupa was spreading maps across the table.

Romulus stood, muscles taut, ready to move.

Zerox's fingers danced over his laptop, pulling in data, monitoring every thread of conversation, every shift in the network.

Hermes sat on a crate, munching on a protein bar like this was just another Tuesday.

They were ready.

And then—B.O.R.I.S spoke.

"Wait."

Everyone turned.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

B.O.R.I.S exhaled.

"Before you go, I need to give you something."

Silence.

Then—Romulus frowned.

"We don't have time for a lesson."

B.O.R.I.S didn't flinch.

"Then you'll die before you ever reach the battlefield."

A pause.

"Sit."

The First Step to Synchronization

They sat.

B.O.R.I.S didn't.

"You three are powerful," he said. "But not like this."

Romulus crossed his arms. "What's that supposed to mean?"

B.O.R.I.S tilted his head.

"You're a machine. You just don't know it yet."

He turned to Romulus first.

"You think you're strong."

Romulus scoffed. "I am."

B.O.R.I.S exhaled.

"You're more than strong. You're stable."

Silence.

"Romulus, you don't just lift things. You hold things in existence. You keep them from slipping away. You're—"

B.O.R.I.S hesitated.

Then, softer:

"You're Permanence."

Romulus frowned.

B.O.R.I.S continued.

"That's why you feel so heavy. That's why you always need to eat. Because there are—"

He exhaled.

"There are already versions of you inside yourself. And every time you push your limits, you're pulling another one forward."

A beat.

Romulus's pulse tightened.

B.O.R.I.S's voice dropped lower.

"How many of you are in there right now?"

Romulus didn't answer.

Because he didn't know.

Synchronization – Their First Real Test

B.O.R.I.S turned to Remo.

"You are the Mobility."

Then to Lupa.

"And you, Lupa, are the Generator."

He stepped back.

"You are a cryptographic system. A locked equation. And together, you are unbreakable. But only if you learn how to work as one."

Silence.

Then—B.O.R.I.S smirked.

"So. Let's test it."

The First Attempt (And a Slip That Doesn't Go Unnoticed)

"Focus," B.O.R.I.S said.

"Think of one thing. Together."

A pause.

Then—

Remo blinked.

His mouth twitched.

And before he could stop it—

"The curve of Hermes's ass."

Silence.

Hermes raised an eyebrow.

Zerox snorted.

Romulus let out a slow sigh.

Lupa pinched the bridge of her nose.

B.O.R.I.S didn't even react.

Instead, he said:

"I mean, if that's your priority—"

Remo cleared his throat. "Next."

Zerox smirked. "So we're doing confessions now? Because I have some questions about why B.O.R.I.S is even here."

Hermes muttered, "Please. As if Remo didn't already know."

Remo shot him a look. "You shut up."

The Second Attempt (And the First Answer)

Romulus exhaled.

"Where is Feast?"

B.O.R.I.S didn't hesitate.

"The Veil."

Silence.

Then Lupa's voice.

"What is The Veil?"

B.O.R.I.S's lips parted.

But he didn't answer.

Not yet.

"Try again."

The Third Attempt (And The First Real Success)

They focused.

The thought locked into place.

Zerox.

His brother.

The boy covered in blood.

The child standing next to Y.

And then—

The room shimmered.

Lines of gold light traced outward from Romulus, delicate but precise, curving into the shape of something new.

And three golden figures stepped forward.

Their faces identical to the originals.

Their minds fully conscious.

Their first mission had already begun.

The First Field Deployment & The Expansion

The real Lupa, Remo, and Romulus sat in Httoq.

The first instances moved.

They were connected.

They were aware.

They were perfect.

Their names, coded into existence:

A_Lupa. A_Remo. A_Rom.

The bunker groaned.

The walls expanded outward, metal bending and reshaping.

Zerox slammed his laptop shut. "Oh, hell no."

Hermes dodged falling debris and yelped, "A warning next time?!"

The space breathed, unfolded, widened.

Everything shifted.

And through the dust, a golden figure of Remo flickered into existence.

A_Remo turned, tilting his head at Hermes.

He smirked.

"Sup?"

Hermes blinked.

Then—grinned.

The Second Wave – A New Era Begins

B.O.R.I.S nodded.

"Now, make more."

They closed their amber eyes.

And then—

The bunker expanded again.

The second wave of instances stepped forward.

B_Lupa – Sent to the central network to work with Zerox. B_Remo – Sent to gather supplies for Romulus. B_Rom – Sent to the control throne to stabilize the bunker.

Each one fully formed.

Each one aware of their mission.

And as they moved—the war shifted.

Because now, it wasn't just survival.

Now, it was strategy.
