Dare to dream

Yet another day of the world passing me by... like the never-ending rapid of time had started to speed up but that was ok, I had found my safe place where the rapids flow has settled into calm waters, that was the thing I loved about coffee shops. And this one in particular was one of a kind. It didn't have many customers but the ones it did would stay for hours minding their own business not making too much noise, it was perfect. I placed the dusty book on the polished wooden table in front of me and took a look at my depleting cup of coffee. Before returning my gaze to this peculiar book i had recently acquired. Pages that should have crumbled to dust by now and a cover that has seen many more years than myself. What happened to you?.. A few dust particles could be seen hovering in the golden shafts of afternoon light, it was fast approaching that magical twilight hour where it is said worlds connect, a single Girl sat in that coffee shop, alone, unwanted, unneeded but she didn't care. She just read that book every day in that same corner time not bothering her.

i touched the book and felt it again that sense of freedom like the weight of the world had been lifted, getting comfy i leaned back in my seat and tock a deep breath in anticipation before wrenching open the pages.

The world went dark, the coffee shop faded, time stopped and i fell. How long had i been falling? Where was i? Did it matter? A cold detached sensation fell over me sending panic spikes through my entire being, then the soft grass and radiant glow on my skin was all i could feel

my eyes flicked open an impossible emerald green reflecting the millions of stars that passed above showering the world in a spectrum of colors. Gravity was lighter on this world taking in a breath of fresh air i felt my body become weightless as excitement pulsed through me with every rapid heartbeat. i focused all energy in my legs, before i knew it i was running breaking through the biolumenent forest faster than any car i had been in, the world blurred around myself then the ground was suddenly missing as i broke through the branches of the last trees that stood upon the tallest cliff i had ever seen, now i was really flying, or falling really slowly i couldn't tell… I didn’t care, the lands stretched out before me were a jumble of different worlds that were impossible... a futuristic city with buildings that challenged the heavens themselves loomed in the east, massive fantasy creatures and entire city’s carved out of trees that also seemed to push the very idea of physics loomed towards the north and a war torn devastated corrupted land existed between both these proud lands with horrific and terrifying creatures of its own looming high above it. I froze as I struggled to believe my eyes, after a moment I realized I was still falling, below me was a massive outstretched valley where battles were raged reflecting the fury of the super nova’s that passed above. here i felt more alive than ever before, energy coursed through my veins as i broke the sound barrier, i angled my body towards the largest part of the stream i could see as a crazed grin ripped across my face

BOOM!

The water shot upwards as the entire stream was thrown into the air causing all creatures in the surrounding area to scamper away, i stood up slowly as the once full stream was now raining down on top of me. This is where i felt more alive than ever. But my small moment of triumph was quickly replaced with fear as now i could feel eyes on me, savage eyes with a hint of intelligence.

Everything went dark and the world faded as i dropped to my knees, the world was replaced with bright artificial light directly above my table which now held my ice cold coffee.

"Sorry but I’m going to have to ask you to leave soon, the shop is closing now"

O i really lost track of time again didn't i... reluctantly i closed the book and slid it into my bag, the walk home didn't take long this was the closest coffee shop to me, i had been visiting it for years now... i stopped mid thought and gazed up at the empty night sky, this world... is so ugly. Even the stars would rather not show themselves. i truly do wish a better world existed, one where we won’t slaves one in which power meant everything not power as in the rich but power as in the strength to take down gods... but that wish is too much now isn’t it! Worlds like that only exist in books... books which contain our very own dreams. The night didn’t answer me not that i thought it would.

Returning home i found my dinner on the table with another note from my mother begging me to come home earlier, but what’s the point. I barely see her since all she does is work, ever since dad left us. Anger now burning in me i ran into my bedroom messy as always, carefully i stepped over and through the piles of books on my floor to reach the bed. i placed the dusty old book on my pillow and got comfy before running my eyes over its cover once again. I wish there was a better world than this, did you end up finding it dad? Or was all those years just a fucking waste of time for you to just up and leave me in the end! Tears fell and rolled across the cover. Just once more please let me be free, let me fly and grow. I’m sorry dad.

My room faded again for the last time

I awoke back into that world of impossibilities, a sad smile spread across my face. Here I actually have a life, something to look forward to… this is just the beginning.
