A Penguin's Celebration

A Penguin's Celebration

Tim the Penguin finished hanging the last decoration before stepping back to admire his work. His restaurant, Penguin’s Party Place, was set to celebrate its five year anniversary tomorrow, and he had spent the last few days preparing. It had been a dangerous proposition, as penguin feet just weren’t meant for navigating ladders. But hard work and a few impromptu impersonations of a non-flightless bird had his restaurant decked to the nines. He was particularly proud of the large banner that was hung on the outside of the restaurant.

To hang the banner up he had to get the help of his friend Nelly the Giraffe. His cousin Jerry had really outdone himself, and the banner was longer than ten penguin’s wingspans. The banner was a panorama, showing scenes of Penguin’s Party Place from when it was first starting out to its current successful state as the life of the town. Tim was proud of how far his restaurant had come, and the banner showcased that perfectly. He didn’t know much about art, but if that wasn’t the best darn banner he had ever seen he would sit on an egg.

But just as Tim was admiring the festive atmosphere of his restaurant one of his waitstaff, Walter the Penguin, burst through the door in a rain of feathers.

“Tim, Tim!” Walter squawked. “It’s terrible Tim! Terrible!”

Tim quickly waddled over to Walter, calming him down and preventing him from upending tables and making a mess of things in his frenzy.

“Calm down Walter,” Tim said. “What’s the problem? I just finished decorating, try not to spread feathers all over the tables.”

“What will we do Tim? Oh, it’s terrible, terrible!”

“What’s terrible Walter?”

“It’s ruined! Everything’s ruined Tim! It’s all going to be ruined!”

“Walter, I told you I got Nelly to help me hang the banner. You don’t have to worry about going up on a ladder ever again.”

“But that’s just it Tim! It’s the banner! They’re going to steal the banner!”

“Steal the banner? What do you mean Walter? And who’s they?”

“Them, Tim! They’re going to steal the banner! I overheard them while I was on the Krazy Slide.”

Tim narrowed his beady eyes as his stare bored into Walter. “You mean the Krazy Slide that’s at Kat’s Krazy Kafe? The place I told you not to go?”

“I’m sorry Tim! I promise I won’t go on the super fun and amazing slide ever again. But, but, I heard them Tim! They said they are going to steal the banner!”

Tim calmed Walter down before dragging him over the to the front window, peering out across the street at their dreaded rival, Kat’s Krazy Kafe. Soon after Tim had opened his restaurant Kenny the Cat had opened up one right across the street. Kenny used every dirty trick in the book to try and take Tim’s customers, including installing a special Krazy Slide for penguins. But against all odds Tim had won out, becoming the most successful restaurant in their town.

The lights were still on across the street, and Tim could see Kenny and his gang of Kool Kats drinking and laughing, likely plotting their theft of his treasured banner. Luckily Walter had acted as a spy and told him of the plot beforehand or Tim would have been at home too busy celebrating to notice the theft until it was too late.

“Don’t worry Walter,” Tim said. “I have a plan…”

In the dead of night, Kenny and his gang of Kool Kats snuck their way across the street. They padded silently on soft paw pads, sneaking over to the front of Tim’s restaurant. Just as they were about to cut down the banner and take it away Tim and Walter along with their penguin friends sprung up from the roof and pelted them with snowballs!

“Take that you feline thieves!” Tim yelled as a particularly good shot nailed Kenny right on his sensitive nose.

Screeches and yowls echoed out from the street as the Kool Kats tried to avoid the projectiles. But no matter what acrobatics they tried they couldn’t avoid the penguins accurate throws and were soon sent back home, sopping wet from the snowball barrage.

“That’s right you lousy cats!” Walter shouted. “I never liked your super awesome slide anyway!”

The next day the whole town gathered in Tim’s restaurant to celebrate. The banner was saved and the celebration was a resounding success. The penguins had won the day.
