Chapter 1.

Mark awoke in a cold sweat, after calming himself down, he then froze as his last memories flooded his mind. After a while of sorting/dealing with those memories, he came to the conclusion that he had died. There was no way he survived that, and yet, here he was, in his uniform and equipment, no physical pain, no marks, and no damage to any of his equipment, it's almost as if he just put the gear on. He decided to just "go with the flow" and didn't give his situation much more thought other than *figure out where i am, what happened, and survive.* After finally finishing his inspection of himself, he finally took notice of where he was. He was in a dimly lit room that resembled a bunker's barracks, he had actually been in quite a few bunkers before while in service. Although a big difference between those bunkers barracks and this room, was that it looked old and dilapidated. The bunks were rotting and extremely rusty, looking as if they were going to fall apart or disintegrate at a moment's notice. Mark looked around and noticed that some of the lockers were still solid enough to hide anything inside them. Figuring he might as well search them, as he was quite curious, he approached the lockers. They were a dull gray color, at least where they weren't rusting. He grabbed the handle for the locker and gave it a tug to see if it would either open, or if the handle would break off. It seems that it wasn't in too bad condition as it held, although it was a little difficult to actually open due to the rusty hinges. When he had pulled the door completely open, he was surprised and confused as to what was in the locker. It was the normal service weapon that he had before, it didn't even seem like it was damaged or otherwise marred, it looked just like he had just gotten out of the armory. Lying on a shelf below it, was his service pistol in the same condition. Ignoring the ramifications of such a thing, Mark went and looked inside the other lockers, he found his helmet, a K-bar knife, and some other supplies. He even found a large backpack to store it all in, and everything was in the same condition as he remembered from before his last deployment. After finishing searching the entire room he geared up and went to the only door to leave, curious as to what lies behind the door. He opened the door and saw just a normal hallway, after looking at both ends, he noticed a sign on the left wall just before a turn in the hallway. He walked towards the sign, curious about what it would say, it had the word "garage" on it with an arrow towards the turn in the hallway. He took a second to think and decided to head to the garage to see what could be there. After walking for a while he couldn't help but notice the various debris and other things laying around in the halls. There were many areas where there seemed to be barricades, the interesting thing being that there were spent shell casings everywhere he looked on the ground. There were also many holes in the walls and the broken barricades, that were probably from bullets. Walking down the corridor, he didn't see any weaponry or any bodies either, as he passed another barricade that almost took up the entire hall, he heard and felt a low hum. Following the source of the hum, he arrived at a reinforced doorway that had a sign next to it, on the sign was multiple warnings such as for radiation, biohazard, fire, death, etc., only feeling slightly more nervous, but a lot more curious now, he approached the doorway. The actual door to the room was gone, and even though he knew that entering an area that had many warnings against entering may be a death sentence, he figured it was a risk worth taking. Entering the room, it was pitch black, even darker than the halls, as they at least had some light, from who knows where, as soon as his entire body was in the room however, the room was filled with a bright white light, momentarily blinding him as his eyes had been adjusted to the darkness already. He froze as even though he knew he shouldn't be able to see, something appeared in his view.

Mark froze, this being the first interesting thing so far, and probably the strangest thing he has ever seen. It was almost like a hologram or how info would show up in video games. Figuring that he had really nothing to lose, he said "Status" in his mind. The previous blue box of text was replaced with another.

Mark was just in shock at what he read before him, he had already come to terms with the floating, blue, boxes filled with text in his vision. But after reading all of the info on them, he was at a loss for words. A thing that especially stuck out at him was the Title: Last Human, it meant that he was the only human apparently on this planet. Even the fact that he was no longer on Earth wasn't as astonishing as that. With him finally finishing reading all of the boxes, the bright light that had filled his vision gradually faded, leaving the darkness filled room behind in its wake. The box was still in his vision though, he looked all around him, the box never moving in relation to his eyes, which meant that it was right in the center of his vision. He thought to himself how he could dismiss the boxes or minimize them so that they didn't impede his line of sight. As he thought that, another box showed up, automatically dismissing the previous box and taking its place.

Tip

You can modify your HUD and how it works with just your thoughts or will.

"Oh", Mark remarked out loud, then said to no one in particular, "Thats handy". With just a thought he dismissed the box and thought about how he wanted his "HUD", he ended up having it show a, clock in the top right of his vision, a notification box in the bottom right, a mini-map that he could apparently have, a inventory icon that he didn't even actually think he could have, in the bottom right, next to the notifications, and a inspection overview constantly on, although it was reduced so that it wasn't annoying. With that all taken care of, he stored his gear he wouldn't need right now into his "Inventory", And began following the mini-map, that already had the bunkers layout, to the garage, which would have the exit. He began idily thinking about his experiences so far, while this has been a strange experience, Mark felt that it wasn't too bad, and that he could actually live life. What could go wrong, right?
