I had never really understood the concept of “classroom boundaries”. As far as I was concerned, it was a strange thing to have a place where you were expected to stay and learn, as if knowledge is something that could be confined in four walls.
Obviously, that was just a joke.
But, when I found myself once again standing in front of the classroom door, I hesitated for a moment. It was almost like I had to convince myself to do it.
I wasn’t supposed to be here. I wasn’t even sure why I was standing here in the first place. But then again, maybe it’s just me wanting to meet him again.
It’s just a random person right? It shouldn’t be a big deal. Nobody really paid attention to a random girl who popped in and out of places. Today shouldn’t be any different.
“I mean it’s already been a week since then.” I whispered.
It should be a fine once in a while, right?
I pushed the door open.
Oh, crap. What supposed to be just a peek on the door, were pushed a little more force than necessary. Well, I guess it’s time to step in.
Stepping into the classroom, I walked inside with the same casual confidence I used anywhere.
The classroom was your typical classroom, with students sitting in rows, and teacher who were probably talking about something important but entirely uninteresting. It could’ve been history.
“There you are.” I whispered, eyes lighted up. There he was, sitting in the backrow, eyes glued to his phone. I see, not listening to the teacher huh?
I couldn’t see it, but knowing him, it was either a game or some research that could put anyone to sleep. But today? I’m sure he needed something to spice up his day.
I made my through the rows of desks, avoiding eye contact with everyone, but not bothering to hid my entrance, which in this part is absolutely necessary.
“Hey!” I greeted, standing in front of him. “What’s up? Why are you looking at your screen, huh?”
He jumped in surprised, his eyes went wide for a second, then it turned into a look of annoyance.
I could tell he was trying to figure out how to make sense of this, but no, that’s impossible.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
“Ari!? What are you doing here?” He whispered, glancing around nervously, checking to make sure no one else had noticed my entry. But he was late, some noticed it already.
“Just passing through.” I shrugged. “I thought I’d add some contribution to this class.”
He frowned. “What are you talking about Ari? This is not your class right?”
“Yes. But that doesn’t matter.” I paused and took a glance at the front of the classroom. I immediately saw that the teacher was looking straight at me with a confused look. “S-so, what’s the lesson today? I’m betting it’s about ancient rocks or something along that.” I said with a hint of shakiness in my voice, noticing the teacher’s gaze.
A slight smile came from his lips, like he was trying not to smile. Got him. I thought. But before I could savor my little victory, the teacher’s voice echoed trough the room.
“Mister? Who might you be?”
“Uh…” I turned my head to the front. “It’s Ari.”
“Mister Ari, would you care to answer the question?”
I froze. My brain went blank. Wait what?
I hadn’t been paying attention to anything in this room. I wasn’t even sure what the teacher had been talking about. I glanced at her. She knew exactly I wasn’t a student here, but she was continued with it anyway.
The teacher, though, was looking at me, as if this was the most normal thing in the world. I felt all eyes in the room on me, and despite knowing it’s not my class, I wasn’t about to back down.
“Um…well…” I started, trying to think of something I could throw. “It’s about Einstein and his Theory of Relativity.”
The class looked at me in confusion, staring at me and probably wondering, ‘What the hell is she talking about?’ They are right. I myself doesn’t even know why Einstein appeared out of nowhere.
“Einstein...?” She said slowly, trying to figure out if I was messing around or genuinely answering her question. “That’s… not what I was asking, Mister.”
I know! I shouted in my mind, there’s no other way for me to answer your question. “Well haha…” I scratched my head.
“Alright, let’s try this again.” She said, hesitated for a moment, uncertain whether to throw me out or just let this play out. “What was the cause of the fall of the Roman Empire?”
Oh. I knew this one. I could do this.
For a split second, I felt my confidence rise up, and then the idea clicked. I straightened up, and without any more hesitation. Time to nail this.
“The fall of the Roman Empire happened because of the corruption, economic decline, and the barbaric invasions from outside.”
The room went silent. The teacher blinked at me. “Uh, yes.” She said, surprised. “That’s… correct Mister.”
I grinned, proud of myself. I can’t believe the question was easy enough for me to answer.
I turned my head back to him. “How was it?” I smiled.
The class started getting noisy around me, still processing what just happened.
He was still in disbelief. He shook his head and whispered, “What just happened?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know either. Don’t think too hard about it.”
“I can’t even…” He muttered.
“Well, I’m off.” I said with a wide grin. “You keep studying. I’ll be just around the corner.”
I gave a little bow from the back row to the front, and made my way to the door, leaving behind a room full of stunned and surprised faces.
As I closed the door, I felt my heart beating rapidly. I sighed deeply in relief. “Phewww… That was too much for my heart.” I muttered, glad that I was out of the room.
I guess that’s enough playing for the day. I thought, feeling completely spent for the rest of the day.
I smiled as I walked away from the classroom, happy enough that I had managed to mess with him again.
