“Hey we got another one”.
I was awakened by beams of light that seared into my eyes.
“You cannot sleep here” the owner of the light booms.
I slowly get up and walk away too tired to even see who flashed the lights to awaken me, it was probably guards anyways. The wind continues howling betwixt two skyscrapers. I walk along the sidewalk as I'm buffeted by the rain looking for another place to sleep for the night. As the rain beats on the ground and ricochets around until joining the steady stream that drains into the sewer.

I feel the sleepiness wash over me.
Too hungry to sleep.
Too poor to eat.
While these dark thoughts float around in my mind I find a new spot under an awning. I slowly snuggle against the cold metallic door and start to close my eyes again. I cough and the taste of iron coats my throat. I see specks of red sprinkled on the floor.
If there is a god, if there is something after death, I can only pray that my next life will be different. I close my eyes as darkness takes over and the sounds of the city start to drown out.
