“Now that we got this out of the way what should we do?”
Things somehow worked out and now I’m a guide and a bodyguard for Sya. A while ago I heard the bell ringing so the Physical Education class already started.
I can go back but what about Sya, I can’t just leave her alone. I can assume that she is not officially a student here and I don’t know how the other students will react if I bring her with me…Then again with those clothes, or rather lack of, I’m pretty sure what their expression will be. The next thing I have to take care of is the double vision I’m having; seeing both of her forms is making me uncomfortable mainly because they tend to overlap and that’s when the static happens.
“Alexander, are you all right?” asked Sya.
“Not really, your illusion magic makes me feel dizzy.”
“I don’t understand; what do you mean?”
Well shit; how can I explain it in a way she will understand? Is there even a way; looking at her gives me a dizziness I haven’t felt even once while I was talking to Astrid? Maybe if I ask Astrid…
“N…Never mind, f…forget I said anything!” said Sya shaking her arms left and right.
She looks rather nervous. I was just thinking about my weakness, why did she get so worked up or rather is that how a 100 year old elf should?
“Chill, I was just thinking what to do now, no need to get so worked up.”
“I’m sorry but I don’t follow you.”
“Elesya, we are in the middle of class now, being seen by the teachers and the other students may result in gossip even I might not be able to stop.”
What Liliana explained was about right, how did she figure out? Usually I don’t really care how the other students see me but now there is another variable in the equation.
“Is it true Alex?” asked Sya looking at me with big, curious eyes.
“More or less; though I’m rather curious: How did you know?”
“I’ve anticipated this; I’m not this school’s headmistress just for show. It will be inconvenient but both you Elesya will have to wait until the classes are over.”
So we have to wait about one hour and a half, I’m fine with that. I wish I had taken some books with me especially the one about the elven language; that language is so hard to learn, it’s like a European or American was trying to learn and fully understand the Asian languages, good luck with that! Speaking of which, I will ask Sya to help me with it.
“So we just have to wait here for almost two hours?”
“Yes, unless you think of a place to hide.”
A place to hide, hmm…Oh! There is one place nobody goes to, the basement and while I’m there I will ask Astrid if she knows a way to remove my double vision.
“How about we go to the basement, nobody goes there.”
“The basement?” asked Sya.
“Yeah, we have a vampire locked in there and going near her is forbidden.”
“If it is forbidden then why can you go there?”
“Alex was bitten by the vampire and did transform or not succumb to her charms so he may be the only one immune to her powers.” Liliana answered Sya’s question.
I wouldn’t say that I haven’t transformed since my body changed a little and I certainly succumbed to her charms but I was lucky because Maria stayed by my side until the effects passed and while my body is accustomed to her charms it doesn’t make me immune, I’m still too weak.
“WHAT, he was bitten by a vampire?”
When I heard the elf man shouted I backed away. That scared the hell out of me; doesn’t he know it’s not polite to shout like that? Really now, I don’t want to develop a heart attack resistance so early.
“I see, so this is the reason why he does not possess a Magic Centre.” said the man after studying me.
“He was born without a Magic Centre; the vampire didn’t alter his Magic Channels.”
“How is it possible, I’ve never heard of a human born without a Magic Centre?”
“We haven’t figured out how and this was one of the reasons I picked Alex to be Elesya’s guide.”
“Even if he was born without a Magic Centre it doesn’t explain why there aren’t any side effects from the infection with the vampire virus.”
“Actually there are, my hair is one of them; my hair used to be blonde but now it’s white, the rest are just some minor improvements to my strength and healing power.”
“I see. It’s fortunate that Lady Elesya found another Partial such as herself.”
What does [Partial] mean? Partial is something incomplete or part of a whole. Sya is a High Elf but she has demon parts so a person that did not completely transform into a demon can be called a Partial. My case is a little different; my body took the upsides from the virus and got rid of the downsides. One thing I know for sure is that I didn’t receive the longevity of a vampire and I’m actually glad I didn’t, living for a long time doesn’t sound very appealing to me.
“Well, I have something to ask Astrid so let’s go.”
“Yes!” said Sya.
“Take these before leaving.”
The man handed her the bow and the quiver. Both the bow and the arrows were made out of Elder Wood; is it really that good? I don’t think that bringing a bow would be necessary but that’s none of my business.
We slowly made our way to the basement making sure not to be seen by the students who were in the courtyard. We have Physical Education so the chances of us getting caught were next to zero.
“It’s dark in here.”
That was the first thing Sya said when we went inside the basement. My eyes have already adapted to darkness so I can see.
“It seems that you are not alone today.”
From inside the magical cage a pair of red eyes can be seen. I thought that Astrid would be asleep; it’s the middle of the day after all.
“So it seems. Anyway, shouldn’t you be asleep?”
“Unfortunately I was awakened by your deceiving aura. For a moment I believed that some prey has entered the basement but it turned out to be you. Is there something you need from me?”
“You know about me seeing the true forms of other people, I need help with that.”
“Hmm…I see; it’s about that elf girl. Indeed the illusion magic casted on her is strong but not impossible to bypass. Tell me, how much magic did you use before temporary bypassing it?”
“I didn’t. I saw her true form after I shook her hand. It’s just like the time you bit me, I saw your true form after making physical contact with you.”
“You are a dark magic practitioner; did you learn a detection technique?”
“If it’s about one that lets you detect enemies then yes, I learnt one.”

“Use it.”
“OK.”
I took out my watch form The Null and activated Vision. Ah, darkness, my old friend. And after the darkness comes the black and white vision. Holy Shit! It actually works. So that’s how they really look like. Seeing them in red is a lot better than seeing double.
“Alexander, is this the EXACT spell you were taught?” asked a surprised Astrid.
I don’t know what got her so worked up but she sure doesn’t look fine. That look on her face is beginning to worry me, what exactly did I do?
“No, this is my version, why?”
“You are an imbecile! What you are using is a spell called [Whisper], a spell used by humanoid demons to locate and destroy enemies.” said Astrid with a scolding tone.
“My body is different, why is it so strange?”
“Somehow your true power is either being suppressed or sealed. No matter how powerful your scan ability is it cannot compensate… The Whisper can only be used by those possessing the Devil’s Eyes. Possessing them is an honour and only high level demons such as myself are able to manifest them. Alexander, give me your hand!”
I had my doubts about the spell but now it’s confirmed, it isn’t a human one. I am pretty sure that both Astrid and I have the same theory, that this is the result of her infecting me.
“Hey Alex, isn’t it dangerous?” asked Sya.
“It’s fine, right now her curiosity is bigger than her thirst for blood.”
“All right, if that’s what you think.”
“And here she is; another victim of your aura. It must be pleasant, having such a power over people.” declared Astrid with a sarcastic voice.
“What are you talking about?”
“This is one thing I will not tell you.”
“Oh well, here.”
I extended my right arm. For a protected cage there was nothing to stop my arm from going inside it. Astrid grasped my hand, examined it and then she bit it. Yeah, she was sucking my blood. Despite having all the spells activated I didn’t feel Astrid sucking my magic away, she just took a little bit of my blood.
“So what was this supposed to be?”
“A vampire such as myself can obtain certain information about a person by sucking their blood and I found out the reason behind your double vision. Your body intergrated various aspects of my essence into it including the power of the Devil Eyes. What you need to do is to focus on her true form.”
I spent the rest of the day trying to shift my focus between the girls’ true form and current form. Since my eyes are copies of the Devil Eyes their abilities are not fully developed yet. The only thing I cared about was what Astrid told me about my powers being sealed, the rest didn’t matter. I’m sure it’s because of the restriction placed on me before I reincarnated. Oh well, no point in staying here worried over nothing.
In the evening Elesya was finally introduced as a student at the academy. Liliana announced that she will be under my protection from now on which obviously made me the most hated man in the school. The ones with the most questions were obviously Jaden and Saya. On the bright side Sya accepted to help me with my elven language study.
The next Monday morning I had to get up early to meet with Sya to show her around. Well, I hope that the other girls in the dormitory will help her as well. Jaden and Saya took advantage of the opportunity and came to me with a mountain of questions. I don’t know what I expected. The only way out is to answer.
“So is it true, did the headmistress really assign you as her guide?”
“Yeah Jaden, it is true. Dude chill, that assignment is a joke so that nobody asks question, which by the way isn’t working.”
“What if you are hurt or worse?”
“I will be fine, I’m just a guide; nobody will attack me or Sya.”
And I’m pretty sure that I will not get attacked since I have a guardian angel who wishes to kill me personally and he is the leader of an Assassin Guild. Since the assassination attempt Mir is being more careful now, if something is going to happen she will know for sure.
“I don’t know if we will be able to help but please tell us if we can help.” said Saya.
As always Jaden is getting worried and asking questions while Saya is trying to offer her assistance. Maybe being so different makes them good for each other. After parting ways with them I had to meet Sya before going to class.
“Good morning Alex!”
Here she comes, the energetic Sya. I don’t understand why she is so hyper but it’s fun to have her around so I don’t try to calm her down. Ah! Her uniform arrived. She was one of the blue students now, though blue isn’t really her color, something green would have been nice.
“Yo, so that’s your uniform. It looks good on you. By the way, why didn’t you take the black one like me?”
“The headmistress told me wearing the blue one would be better.”
Well, looking at it from another angle if she wore the black uniform she would have no support since she would be a walking target; at least now she is in the same team as the magicians. During my past life I learnt how to be part of a crowd and how to hide in one but for Sya it will be difficult, I should be ashamed that I overlooked something like this.
“Let’s go to class!”
Sya hugged my arm which was swallowed up by her breasts. It fells surprisingly good but that’s about it. In my previous life I grew up around girls, combine that with me staying with Maria it got me used to this kind of things but I wonder about Sya; isn’t she embarrassed?
“Don’t be in such a hurry; there is still time until class starts you know. So, are you okay?”
“Yes, the other girls are nice to me.”
“Getting along with others is important, though I shouldn’t be the one telling you that.”
I spent the following week showing Sya around and bringing her up to speed with how the things work around here. Sya told me that elves, especially young ones, get lost easily when they are in an area without trees or plants; supposedly they rely on plants and trees to mark and memorize their location so a human settlement is a pretty hard challenge for them. Needless to say she was fascinated by the things she saw.
My life certainly changed after Sya transferred here, every day I felt like I was walking side by side with my opposite self. She was an energetic and curious girl, around running around campus making friends while I was a lone wolf, the mysterious guy the girls are attracted to. I tried explaining to Sya why I’m like this but she didn’t share my opinion. Calling me [Hey Alex] once every few minutes reminded me of a certain fairy.
“This is…completely wrong to say the least, is this how humans view our language? I’m surprised that you even understood it in the first place.”
I took Sya to the library to show her the book on elven language. Apparently the book is so inaccurate that not even she was able to understand most of what was written in it and she was supposed to be on the smarter side.
“At least the way the letters and words are written is correct…I will teach you personally, this book is worthless.”
Well, the way she got so angry at a book shows that elves are really proud people. She should be angry at the one who wrote the book but whatever, I don’t want to be the one to tell her that.
