Basilis was walking the streets in a determined way. He seemed to notice that there were less people in the streets nowadays, even less cars and of course he knew the reason for that. In only 2 days, the world will change. Regardless of his thoughts, he directed himself to the market he is currently employed with an envelope in his hands. When he opened the door, he saw that only ¾ of the staff remained. Greeting his co-workers, he went to the manager office.
He knocked the door thrice.
“Who is it?” he heard.
“Basilis”, he answered.
“Come in”.
As he opened the door, he could see the haggard face of the manager. He seemed to have become older in these days. When the manager saw the envelope in Basilis hand, he knew what he came for.
While sighting he said “not you too”, he then started to scramble in his computer for who knows what.
“You must be a good manager for people to still work here”. Mocked Basilis as he sat down. The manager frowned but he still continued to do what he was doing. The room seemed more dirty than usual, strangely, even though Basilis saw the manager with his haggard expression, he could see a tinge of excitement.
With an energetic whistle he said “So you too, don't hide it from me”. That comment startled the manager but he kept on working. “Of course, you can see the impact everywhere… it's going to be a new era”, the manager said.
“Well, that’s true”. Basilis though as he took his envelope and extracted what was inside of it. It was a resignation letter. “Here”.
The manager took the letter, reading everything he made a confused face. But still, the manager though he had seeing more weird things before. “So you have worked for 3 years, 1 month and 3 days. Your paycheck will be sent to your General Account”.
“Good, good,” said Basilis”. So, what do you want to do in ANBO?” as he leisurely saw through the opened door and saw the bustling activities in the market. “I will be a merchant”. He heard “Now that’s new” surprised he said “Wow, want to make a market in a medieval age? Didn't think that.”
“Medieval with magic, thinking of learning some if not all the utilities spells”. He heard as the manager started to work with a serious face “Even if there are no magical utilities, I would pay some people to make them, everything is told to be possible in ANBO”. Excitement could be heard from in these words.
“But you, a blacksmith? Though that with 3D printing technology and industrialization and all that, even the practice of it were but history classes”. Incredulity and doubt was all that Basilis could hear “uh, it's been long since someone has given me that look”.
“Well, if I get to make some good armors or weapons I will call you to sell them”. When he said that, the manager stopped doing whatever he was doing. “You may be one of the only people with pre-game experience in blacksmith… Yeah, that might work”.
“Pre-game experience? Sound like a new era thing”. He thought. “Well, I have to leave, need to make more preparations”.
“Don't know thought if you can only play for 8 hours a day, why renounce?”. Asked the manager.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
“I just want to relax for a while, and manager, this 8 hours are Global City oriented, meaning that they will synchro with day time here, while in Global city its night time”.
The manager was thought full for 5 seconds, then a strike of fear started to seep into his face. Basilis knew that the man knew what it meant, so he left after saying his goodbyes to everyone in the market and went straight to his house.
When Basilis reached home, he thought “So, it's time to do the final touches”, mysteriously Basilis took an old box from his closet and opened it, an old fashioned computer device was in it, a laptop. He plugged the laptop to a power source and turned it on. A sense of victory plastered his face as he thought “And she told me I couldn't use a computer device! Ha!”.
If another person saw this scene, they would find it pretty comical, a burly man with a small black computer, clumsily typing key by key. It took him 3 times more than it was supposed to do what he wanted, but he still thought that he was pretty fast, compared to the past.
“ANBO official page” he typed in his search bar, and searched for all the information he could on the web. Forums related to ANBO didn't have much more information than what he knew. He thought that he even knew a little bit more thanks to his talk with Bask. He tried to register but the page said that accounts will be made at the moment of the first log in.
Not knowing where to get more information he called a friend “Oscar, did you get any kind of information?”. He asked while closing his laptop.
“Well, I got pretty important news and really technical ones…” Basilis concentrated on the phone call, saw that it was 8:34 pm “Damn, skipped training time, may need to change schedule”
He thought. “The important news is that what we call ’magic’ exist, but in an interesting way. There is no thing as Mana of the old times, there is Pneuma.”
“Pneuma? Like the breath?”. He asked.
“Oh! I am surprised you know that Basilis”. Oscar answered.
“Well, Pneuma is a word used in my family inheritance, a lot.”.
“Mmm… Maybe… Forget it. This news made everyone question the type of medieval setting, if it was going to be oriental or occidental, guess which one is it”.
“I guess it's a mix of both, just like Global City”. Basilis closed his computer and started to move his equipment to workout.
“... Yes, it's exactly like you say. Did you make this game perhaps?”. Mocked Oscar. “Well, now there are some niche things that it's better to see them when the game starts. But I just send you a file with the explanation of status of the game. It's really different, really different… See you in the game, and tell Alexander to not die, penalties are big”.
“Ha! I guess I will tell Letonia first”.
“Well, goodbye, need to prepare too”.
“Goodbye”. Basilis hang up and then started to do his workout schedule. Around 30 minutes later, he saw the file that Oscar gave him. “Uh? Aspects? What the fuck?”. There was a lot of information in the file, like you have something called aspects, pools, abilities, etc.
“Wow, this is really complicated”. He started to read from the beginning. “Body, Mind, Soul, Aspect of the self. Strength and Vitality potency and pool of the body? What does that mean?”. Basilis kept on reading and understood a little of what it meant.
He knew that increasing something increased something else, he guessed that increasing his body aspect increased his strength and vitality by a smaller value. He thought this was too complicated but kept on thinking, trying to find what is better for him. He stopped reading the documents and grabbed the Chryso Family inheritance.
“If this game is so real, I guess that the theory could help me a bit”. He started to read. “Sky, human, earth…”
“Right, this book is pretty novel-like”.
“... If you want to learn true forging, you need to connect your body, mind and soul with you hammer.”.
“Eh? What? I know it’s been years since last time I read this, but… why is it so alike?”. Doubt filled Basilis, but he kept on reading, immersed by the knowledge he had long forgotten. He fell into a trance. Mumbling around for a while, he stopped reading. The confusion he had in his face disappeared. He looked at the black box in the room and held his breath.
“A new breath… eh?”
