Surprise

After that Doemea left the room and I was all alone. The pain was somewhat bearable but the sinking feeling that I wasn't about to get out of this situation alive kept making me feel dreadful.

Maybe I can try to get rid of my bindings and escape.

Yeah, as much as I would like to think of that, I knew there was no way I could get out of the bindings that tied my hands and legs to the chair. And even if I could free myself, where would I go? I was not even on the same planet like Earth.

I could only resign myself to my fate.

Suddenly, a loud noise shattered the quiet of the room. I could hear some crashing sound outside the room. A loud bang and a guy crashed through the door breaking it. He fell to the ground and didn't get up.

Oh! God. What is happening?

A figure came in through the broken door and into the room. I could see a black dress that covered the whole body of the person. Even the head was hidden by a black cloth that had also covered the mouth. The black cloth and the dim light made it harder to see if the person was male or female.

However, as the figure came close to me, I could see the bulging chest, and then it wasn't hard to figure out that it was a woman. She moved closer to me and stood right in front of me. She looked me in the eye, "Are you the infiltrator?" and spoke with a low voice and heavy accent.

Thinking about what would happen if I said no, I chose to just go with the whole infiltrator thing. Maybe I'll somehow get out of this mess alive.

"Yes. I am the one," I tried to say with confidence, but it came out more as a pathetic squeak than anything else.

The woman in front of me gave a hard look at my face, probably trying to see if I was lying. I hoped she would not leave me here to die. As I was thinking of ways to beg her in case she didn't believe I was the one she wanted, a clanging of metal and a sharp noise made me jerk in response. As I looked at the woman, I saw that she had taken out a short sword. The poor light in the room did nothing to dim the gleam of the silvery sword. It looked very slick and double-edged with a brown color hilt. Before I could appreciate the sword, the woman moved behind me and quickly cut the ropes binding my hands. I then realized that she had already cut my bound feet while I was thinking about begging for my life. She must have excellent swordsmanship for her to cut the ropes without making me realize it.

Stolen novel; please report.

She quickly made short work of my bindings with her sword and again came in front of me. I moved my body from the chair and it was quite painful in many places. All this excitement had made me momentarily forget about all the beatings but now with freedom in sight, all those pain came back with a vengeance. She motioned me to follow her and so I slowly followed her out of the room and climbed the set of stairs leading to the upper area. As I was unconscious during my trip to the torture room, I hadn't realized where I was. But, it quickly became clear that I was still in the mansion I had entered before with Doemea.

It was a few moments before I came across a body with its throat savagely cut out and blood everywhere in the corridor. Forcing myself not to heave my whole stomach out, I quickly followed my savior. I hadn't realized how vicious the fighting had been as I was deep in the basement of the mansion, but now I could see bodies everywhere. I even found a beheaded body with the head a little far looking towards me and it looked as if the head was accusing me of causing the bloodbath with its dead eyes. Clamping my mouth was all I could do to force the bile and vomit rising in my throat. The death and destruction were too much for me. I could only focus my eyes to stay on the woman as she led me out the door.

Finally reaching outside, I realized that we had exited from a different place than I had first entered. It was late in the evening with the last rays of sunlight about to disappear. We quickly reached a covered wagon pulled by two brown horses. A driver was in the front and after the woman nodded to him, we both climbed the wagon and closed the cloth covering it. Sitting in the wagon, I got time to think about all that had happened to me lately. It felt like a crazy nightmare that I was having and any moment now, I would wake up back home in my bed. But the sad thing is that deep inside, I know it's not a nightmare and I would never return home. A bump in the road pulled me from my mulling.

Thinking about it isn't gonna help me. Must try to think on the bright side, even if the bright side is just a little less dark than the worst possible side.

A deep sigh came inside the wagon. I realized I had forgotten about my companion for a moment. Although the wagon was covered, a little bit of light kept coming in from some tear in the wagon cover, especially due to the bumpy ride and it was enough for me to see that my companion was watching me strangely. A strange chill arose around me. After the terrifying scene in the mansion, I realized that she could kill me just as easily as killing a chicken.

“I know you were lying earlier”, the woman spoke.
