Chapter II: Death Is Just A Part Of It
------------------------------------------------
The game loads up and a bright light engulfs my line of sight. I crouch to the ground hands covering my eyes. Then the pain is gone I here no sounds, but my vision is coming back. I’m in a white room with no windows. The floor is made of glass I see what looks like a planet but this planet is not round. It is flat. At the edges of the world I would expect the water to flow over the edge. But I don’t see such a thing, what surprises me is the entire edge of the word is covered in ice. I turn around and a couch what was once not there. There seems to be a girl there waiting for me sitting down. I go to ask her for her name but then her mouth starts to move.
“Welcome to A New Age. I am an A.I here to guide you through the opening of A New Age. This game is very different from other VRMMO’s as people won’t be able to use magic, sword skills or Character classes. You will also have to pay a dying fee/bonus.” (A.I)
“No magic, sword skills or classes? And what the hell kind of fees do I have to pay when there’s no more concept of money. Can you explain why there are no magic or sword skills?” (Immortal)
“The creator decided magic and sword skills are absolute crap and made a game that doesn’t use them. He wanted a game that was hard to play, and hard to succeed in. That’s why there will be no system assist to help aim your bow or aim your sword strikes.” (A.I)
“Well I guess it’s not a problem, at least everyone can have a fare start. No more getting an OP skill launching you to first in the leader boards. So what’s up with the classes and dying fee/bonus.” (Immortal)
“Since there won’t be magic or sword skills, classes have become useless in A New Age. As a result stats and actual battle know how will mean everything. Now the newest implement the dying fee/bonus. With permission of the “Federation of Planets” (Government) in order to play the game you have to choose a penalty for dying. Lower the penalty the lower the bonuses that are given. You cannot choose the same option twice if you have died more than once. Here are your penalty options:” (A.I)

“OMFG how can the government agree to this, this is... this is... AMAZING OMG for once in my life something new has happened hahahahahahahahaha.” (Immortal)
“You’re the first player to laugh and be happy upon hearing about the dying fees/bonuses. You are an odd one.” (A.I)
“You’re only A.I you can’t comprehend living for 1223 years and having nothing exciting happen. I finally have a game where if I make a mistake I can possibly die. Now I can find entertainment in this game.” (Immortal)
“I do not understand your meaning behind those words. Well let’s get a move on people are starting to play now. What option or options will you implement in order to play the game?” (A.I)
“Hmm what the hell I will choose Death (Extreme torture 1 month). That way I start out the game ahead of everyone else.” (Immortal)

I didn’t expect to be the first one to choose the death option. The rewards are well worth it. What happens now? What’s the next step?” (Immortal)
“You will be transported to a random town square, where you can begin your new journey. I would suggest using your unused stat points as soon as you get there. Any last words before you leave?” (A.I)
“Yah what kind of stats are there in the game? And do you have advice on what I should do first?” (Immortal)
“You still don’t understand.... The reason there’s no system assist or magic/sword skills, is it’s supposed to be a difficult world. A world where one misstep will cost you your life. Good bye.” (A.I)
I feel the world spinning then there’s noise the sound of whispers. I look up and see a small town market when ever one’s eyes on me. I look down making sure I’m not naked, I sigh in relief. It looks like a medieval town like many other games I’ve played. I was just taking in the sights of cobble stone roads and wooden/stucco structures, when I hear a familiar sound.

I look at the cape in my arms it has gold trim around the frayed edges, it has a icon of two scythe’s making a “X” with a grey skull I the center. The cape felt smooth and thin like silk, but also had small ragged holes here and there. It look like a cape marking me for death. Suddenly the cape starts moving and I let go of it. Instead of falling to the ground it starts circling me, then I feel small pressure hitting my shoulders. Turning my head I see the cape fusing to my neck, I was about to panic then I remembered it cannot come off. Almost for getting about A.I’s advice I think “Open Status”.

I first notice that there really is no magic or mana, but the Wisdom stat is still there. I am so confused right now not know what to think .Then sudden joy went threw my body when I noticed my 270 Unused stat points. Wondering where I should put the stats in then I remember that I can die. So I put 50 into Strength, Endurance, Vitality, and Agility. Next I decided to put 25 into Intelligence, 30 into Dexterity, now my last 15 I put into Luck. Now that my stats are distributed lets look at my upgraded stats.

Your probably wondering why I didn’t put no stat points into Wisdom. Knowing there’s no magic I can focus on melee base stats, considering I don’t know what the Wisdom stat does yet. It’s pretty interesting how overpower I am for my level. Since each level gives you 10 Stat Points I can consider myself a level 23 person. Hmm looks like I get 20 Health/Stamina per point in Vitality and Endurance. Also looks like I get Health/Stamina regen of 0.10/s per point in Vitality and Endurance.
Looking at the faith stat I just laugh. Why should I give a shit about it, I don’t want a job working for the church. I’ll probably go find the training hall and see what I can learn about sword fighting in this flat new world. Wait a minute flat world... solid icy edge... maybe I should go to the church first. The gods seem more powerful than I thought. I won’t work for the church but maybe I can gain favour of a powerful god. Yes going to the church first should be more important. If I can do a task or quest for a powerful god I can probably get something powerful. Before I go I wonder what’s in my inventory.

Pretty common starting inventory, love the money pouch... Suddenly I feel a tug on my leg, the tugging brings me back to the reality that I am in a town square with every one’s eyes on me. Looking down I see a hungry ragged looking girl staring deep into my eyes. Her eye’s reflecting someone with no hope just emptiness.
“m.. mr.. mister I’m hungry can you please spare some food” (hungry girl)
Looking into her sad hungry eyes I couldn’t resist not helping her. I bend down in front of her holding out both of my hands. Just by thinking I make 1 bread appear in my left hand, and in my right is 1 silver coin. Without hesitation in one swift motions she takes the both item’s, say’s that you and runs off down a ally way. I smile hesitant to stand up thinking about her, standing up I see a priestess standing just to my right staring at me.
“Can I help you young priestess” (Immortal)
“Forgive me where are my manners, my name is Ashley, I work at the temple of the gods. I couldn’t help but notice you giving food to the little girl. I can understand the food but why did you give her 1 silver coin?” (Ashley)
“Looking into her I eyes I saw no joy of a little kid, I only saw loneliness and sadness. I was hoping she could have one day of joy having the ablitity to by candy, toys or more food. I couldn’t resist helping her. Kids should not have those eye’s, those eye’s mean a life of emptiness I know all too well. You said you work at the Temple of The Gods, can you bring me there I would like to look at the many gods. There are statues representing the gods right?” (Immortal)
“Yes there are statues of the gods. But since this a small town we only have a bust of each god. If you follow me I will lead you to the temple and we can discuss more on the way.” (Ashley)
Our walk was quite informative; apparently there are two factions of god’s the Norse gods and the gods of mount Olympus. They don’t get along but reached a truce after the great “war of the gods”, the war lasted 1 minute but the price was to great. The destruction of the planet and all living creatures. There’s was a different faction of the gods called the Immortals. They did not participate in the war as they only saw two greedy factions fight over worldly things above a god. Upon the destruction of the planet the Immortals beat the two other factions into submission in 1 second. They then showed the gods what being a god is all about. The Immortals gave up there our godly lives to restore the planet and all life that died.
The other gods celebrated upon the mass ritual suicide of the immortals. The two remaining factions stepped onto the planet to continue the war. Loki the god of mischief stomped on the ground laughing in ecstasy upon there being two factions left. The gods were about to begin the battle when they saw a bee hovering around Loki. Loki swung his hand at the bee expecting to swipe it into millions of pieces. But then all the gods noticed somthing at the same time. His hand was moving to slow, it was moving at 1 millionth of his normal speed. Then something truly unfitting of a god happened. Loki got stung in the hand and died on the spot. All the gods got the same message as soon as Loki stopped moving.

Did you think we would let you continue the war after we did our duties as a true Gods
You may be gods, but what’s the point of being a god if you can’t enjoy life on the planet.
All life on the planet can’t be recreated by the Gods of Olympus and Norse Mythology
Only an Immortal god can change the sealing curse
“Ah we are here now please lets go inside. I have work to do inside so I won’t be able to lead you around. There’s a praying pedestal at the back where you can pray. Only the gods you pray to can hear you speak. bye” (Ashley)
She turned around too fast for me to say good bye. So I just started walking inside. Moved by her recounting the storey of the Great War, I knew who I wanted to pray too. Walking up to the pedestal I see a simple marble stone pedestal with golden runes inscribed on the outer edges. I notice a symbol on the top, it was the same as the symbol on my cape. Even more so I felt a stronger sense of pride to pray to the immortals. Kneeing down I started to pray.
“I thank thee Immortals for committing the ultimate sacrifice for ensuring we can live our lives without fear of a god striking us down on a whim. I pray to you for guidance, I need something to stem off the boredom. I need something to do worthy of The Immortals. Please give me strength and a purpose.” (Immortal)

You have my premising to use any layout designs I have made. Please take a moment to rate or comment as it will help me stand apart from other new stories. I will aim to turn out 1 chapter ever 3 days. I hope I get feedback as this is my first time writing a story.
