Even Gods can Fall

An explosion erupted over the skylines of a glorious golden city. The sun had just started its trip over the horizon, yet none would be able to appreciate its brilliance. For the morning was not met with the songs of birds, but the smell of blood and the drums of war.

Another collision blew the clouds away into a halo as one figure was sent crashing into a skyscraper. Surprisingly it was a woman who had done the deed. She had long raven hair that cascaded down her back as if a waterfall. Wearing a black full body suit she had two golden bracelets and shin guards along with a red corset with an eagle pattern on it. A half-broken fragment of a tiara was on her head which had caused a small cut to bleed on her forehead.

She was a large woman of 6 feet in height and a muscular frame. While not bulky like a bodybuilder it was clear from the tone and definition that she was one who was used to intense physical activities. Her lightly tanned skin was covered in bruises and cuts, yet her blue eyes were clear and showed naught a hint of fatigue. It was clear that her beauty was only matched by her strength.

Suddenly rumbling could be heard as the other figure slowly dug himself out of his crash site. Tons upon tons of rumble were pushed out of the way as he got on his feet and kicked up a large dust cloud. A well-built man in a black bodysuit with a long red cape, his arms exposed besides for two silver forearm protector. In his hands was a one-handed hammer with a leather strap around it. Lightning abruptly exploded covering the seemingly simple weapon as his grip tightened over it. Besides the indentation of her fist on his chest plate, he looked none worse for the wear.

A delicate eyebrow raised in surprise at seeing the blond man get up after such a heavy blow from her. The way he shrugged it off reminded her of a certain solar powered teammate. She briefly wonders what his face was made of, as she had actually bruised her knuckles when she had punched him earlier. Not quite steel, but perhaps marble? The wound had already healed, but it was a testament to his durability none the less, after all, she could smash boulders with ease and shred steel as if wet tissue paper.

The man appeared dazed for a moment before shaking his head to clear out the fog. He quickly looked towards the sky and found her. It wasn't hard as she hadn't moved an inch after using his head as a soccer ball. He let go of the handle of his weapon in favor of the leather strap. He spun it slowly in a clockwise motion, every completed rotation building up in both speed and momentum, and before long it generated gale force winds and crackles of lightning. As if he was generating a vortex, a palpable pulsing storm, within his hands.

There was a distinct smell of ozone in the air much reminiscent of her father's domain. She had prepared herself for him to rush towards her, for a sudden exchange of blows, but he found herself surprised when he did none of these things. He did something that would undoubtedly be judged as foolhardy if not the height of stupidity for a warrior.

He had tossed his weapon. Threw something that had no right to be thrown. If she was standing upon the earth she had little doubt her face would've kissed Mother Gaea from sheer disbelief. What imbecile would chuck his only weapon at his opponent? Was he mocking her? Was there some hidden and elaborate plan she was unaware of? Was this a distraction for an ambush?

She had made an error in judgment. There were no tricks. No dubiety to his actions. His action was as straight forward as his unbending back, for he had no need of them, he had merely launched the hammer at her with all the force of a falling meteorite. The seemingly ordinary hammer exploded with power and within the blink of an eye, it had arrived in front of her face. Her eyes widened in shock, but years of training and finely horned instincts saved her as she moved to block instantly.

She crossed her arms and her bracelets, blessed by the Olympian Gods themselves, generated an enormous shockwave that dampened the blow. The mystical enchantments upon them ensured that only a small fraction of the force carried through to her.

She was still sent flying.

A sudden sense of Deja Vu hit her, of when she was new to Man's World and had accidentally gotten hit by a bullet train. No, actually it was worse. The impact rattled her teeth and it seemed to be now her turn to kiss Mother Gaea. With her body practically glowing from the electricity crackling off her skin, she made a most impressive impression of a shooting star as she fell, plowing through sky scrappers until her back started digging a deep trench through the Capital city of Asgard and ripped through every building until the ground bled off enough momentum that she came to a stop after hitting a particularly sturdy wall.

"Princess!" multiple shouts rang out around her fallen form.

Her ears were ringing and she could barely hear, but she didn't need her hearing to see the obvious concern of her warriors, sisters in all but blood, gather around her in a protective formation. Shields raised around them in a turtle formation with long spears stuck out between the gaps to strike down any foolish enough to attack their leader before she could reorientate herself.

"Turtle Formation!"

Like a well-oiled machine, they formed an almost perfect semicircle with their shields, whatever gaps there were was intentional. Perfect for shooting out their spears into any unfortunate foe.

All she needed was a bit of time to catch her breath.

Time her assailant wasn't willing to give her. For almost as soon as her sisters had positioned themselves he came down from the sky, lighting sparking around his body, looking for all intents and purposes the God of Thunder he had so proudly self-proclaimed.

She wasn't impressed. She had met many "Gods" in her days, fought quite a few too, and one thing she had learned from her adventures with her friends was even Gods could bleed. And if they can bleed, they can be killed. Nothing lasts forever.

Even Gods can Fall

It's just a matter of hitting them hard enough. She sent out a telepathic prob to cue her in on the situation of the battle. A majority of her sisters were using their superior mobility in their cavalry to flank and outmaneuver their opponents, but they were lacking in offensive capability. These Asgardian were a hardy bunch and they seemed to use strange technology in their weaponry and armors. However, it takes more than strength and numbers to win a war. She'll be sure to show them not to look down on the warriors of Themyscira just because they consisted of women. Underestimating them was a mistake, one that she would ensure would be most fatal.

Suddenly a bolt of lightning slipped through the minute openings of the formation and blew everyone away. Such a thing would've killed the average man even in body armor, but they were no mere men, and they were far from ordinary. As soon as they saw it coming they had braced themselves for impact and rolled with the force. Within moments they had gotten to their feet and retaliated. Of the sixteen women there, half of them stood guard over Diana while the other engaged the enemy.

The eight of them worked together like clockwork, their centuries of battle experience and teamwork showing splendidly.

Two twins went to one knee and lifted their large shields over their head at an angle. Moments after two different warriors charged towards their comrade before jumping onto the shield and kicking off it as a launch pad. Their strength combined with the toss of their comrades saw them sailing through the skies. With a grace as if they were born to soar they simultaneously tossed their spears pass Thor's cape.

He was pulled down to the top of a nearby building with the two-meter-long spears a quarter of the way in the roof. The others quickly climbed the building and another two spears slipped between his armpits to his back. His limbs were now restrained by the bars of metal awkwardly locking his joints in place. Pulling out their sidearm of a gladius they proceeded to circle him, launching more spears and tossing nets around his limbs. As if a group of hunters trying to slay a mammoth they first locked down his movements before starting to slowly whittle away at him.

He had made a terrible mistake. He had thought nothing of these other women, thinking they were no better than the average civilians from Midgard. Now he was paying the price for his arrogance and ignorance, for their tactics were ruthless and their methods strange and mysterious. Although the metal of the poles was far stronger than any steel he had seen on his adventures on Earth they shouldn't be able to withstand his divine might. With a grunt of effort, he flexed his body to break free of his bonds.

And yet still he was confined. His limbs not having nearly enough leverage to apply all his considerable strength. It was only by virtue of his lightning that prevented these warriors from doing more than shallow cuts. However, it was more than enough to distract him from being able to concentrate on calling Mjolnir to his aid.

Quite the dilemma he had found himself in.

Thankfully he wasn't without his own reinforcement. Only the sound of the lasers charging gave the Amazons the warning needed to avoid a direct blast, but everyone was blasted off the roof.

The Amazons had no time to locate their lost prey when a spray of projectiles rained upon them.
