The life of a Viren is a very interesting one and is not one that comes without consequence. To become a Viren there is one piece of criteria that is essential. It is the possession of a unique ability which only few can acquire. The abilities usually do not appear in the human world however, once in a while, one is born. And because of the absence of signs, most are unaware of the ability themselves. Within this world, there are no Virens stronger than the Viren family. Of whom are an abnormality and are the only known family to pass down abilities to their children. Effectively strengthening the ability through each generation.

You would do well to respect the Viren family.

This was the first letter I’ve received in years.

Oh…I should probably introduce myself first, my name is Alex, and I am 24 years old. Living moderately well on my own. I don’t remember much of the life I used to live before age 20 other then my mothers name, Elizabeth, and an image of her in my head. Long blond hair with bright blue eyes. But anything further than that begins to get blurry until the point of inducing a headache. I know that I went to high school because I have the diploma from it at my apartment. And I think that I used to be a wild child because I sometimes see sirens in my dreams when I sleep. I currently work at a bar and grill called the Al’ Mighty in the heart of Indianapolis. And for the past few years I’ve stayed at an inn down the street. And in the course of just one week the vision I had of this world was changed.

What is this? And what is a Viren? I thought after reading the letter.

I turned over the envelope to see that it was sent by a person named Vincent Viren. Though, there was no return address, and the envelope was directly addressed to me.

I walked down the hall to the keeper of the inn and asked.

“Did you see who dropped this letter off earlier?”

She just looked back at me with a smirk and said,

“The mailman”

I could see that she didn’t have anything to do with it by the way she answered hysterically. I retreated back to my room still hearing the sound of laughter down the hall and thought, why should I focus on anything that was written in the letter. It was probably a prank by someone however, it still bothered me how official the envelope was sealed. Regardless Its not like the letter was trying to warn me of anything, so I shouldn’t be worried.

It was around 9 PM at this point and I was particularly tired because of a 7 AM to 8 PM shift and was ready to go to bed.

The next day, once I got back to my job I asked my boss Geena, who had high regards to me being her employee, about the letter I received.

“Have you ever heard of anyone getting fake mail?”

Geena looked back at me with a puzzled look and replied,

“No, I don’t think I have. But I do know that if someone did that it would be illegal”

I could have guessed that would be her answer, and as I stared at the floor back on my side of the bar I thought, who else could I ask? Well…Who would even have an idea?

For the rest of the day I sat there pondering these questions and tending to the same old patrons who always come in during the morning.

I could ask Annie, I thought to myself

Annie was one of my co-workers who typically worked on the days that I did not.

No, I don’t even think she would know.

The day passed by as slow as it usually does and the same people came in throughout the day, just like every day. And at 8, I was finally allowed to go home. And when I arrived home, I was startled to see a man standing inside of my room. He was wearing an all-black suit with sunglasses on.

“Welcome home Alex. Why don’t you take a seat?”, he said ominously still looking out the window of my apartment.

“Who are you?” I said, assertively at the man.

“That is none of your concern. What is of importance to you is knowing that I have certain…abilities which I intend to unleash upon you if you don’t help me with something”

His words carried a dark undertone to them, almost as if the man was casting a web of lies around me.

I looked at the man and said,

“what could you possibly need me for?”

And as he turned around, I felt a deep chill run down my back. As his eyes met mine, They lit up in a frenzy of red. And when I looked back, I could see it, hell itself, staring back at me. And in an instant, he disappeared from sight.

“Who the hell was that guy!?”

And when I turned around to set my back on the table, I was hit by a strange sense of dizziness. As my legs became heavy and muscles cramped, I fell to the ground and felt a hint of euphoria as my head landed on the floor and I passed out.

“…Get him to the ER and hurry his vitals are dropping!!!”

“It looks to be some sort of stroke”

“He’s calmed down now; he will just need rest”

“Don’t worry, we will take custody of the boy”

…Alright Mr. Viren
