A Monarch's Words
Ch.P/Two views from different sides.

Ch.P/Two views from different sides.

Holy sword in one hand, holy shield in the other. Even as she walked, her perfect face a stoic mask of concentration, power still emanated from her. Power that no creature should possess, let alone a human. Despite this, I felt no fear. Why? Because like her, I too hold a strength no creature should wield.

“Demon king…. No, Demon God. Why do you plague humans so?” A beautiful voice echoed through my courtroom, sending shivers down my spine. The Hero’s righteous bloodlust was released, causing any creature within a 100 mile radius to unconsciously feel fear. Many creatures simply passed out on the spot, unable to withstand the current sensation. It was their brains survival instinct kicking in, trying to force the body to “Play dead” in the face of a monster they couldn’t beat.

But should I say, as expected of The Hero.

“We are simply finishing a war you started.” Though I stated this with a cold confidence, I felt anything but. I too wished to know why my kind held such hatred towards these weaker beings. All the records I have read show that Humans and Demons have been battling for almost 20,000 years. Yet no matter how I look at it, this is impossible. Without the aid of the hero and the current technology the humans possess, the annihilation of the human race should have been easier than breathing. Demons possess superior strength, endurance, magical capacity… anything one could think of, demons were better at. Humans cannot directly wield magic due to fact that they held no elemental affinities. To put in better words, humans cannot infuse any element into mana.Although they could use the mana they had in their bodies to strengthen themselves, this was limit of their abilities. Demons, who were born with a natural affinity to fire could infuse the fire element into mana in the blink of an eye. It was an almost natural thing to do. Elves, dwarves, beastmen, angels… all these creatures held an inborn affinity, yet humans were a blank slate.

So how did they survive? It is a question that has plagued me for centuries. Until about 3000 years ago, the humans most advanced weapons were the ones they stole, bought or traded from the other races. However that all changed when they somehow learned to create magical artifacts capable of using and infusing mana with elemental affinities. With this new skill, the humans were able to turn the tides of war in their favor. Demons were slaughtered by the thousands, unable to cope with the humans new power. Perhaps, had they not grown fat from bullying humans and being lazy, the effect wouldn’t have been so big. As it was, however, hundreds of thousands of demons died in mere weeks, shocking the world. And then, as if to put the nail in the coffin, the emergence of the “Hero” came to pass. A young girl, said to have been given power from the gods themselves. At first, nobody believed the Hero was much. The Demons-Myself included- thought she was nothing more than a delusion teen hoping to garner some attention. Imagine the shock that spread when she single handedly fought against the previous Demon King, cutting off his right arm and taking his left eye. After that, the Hero’s name spread like wildfire and emboldened the human armies. Under the Hero’s banner the humans swept through the lands like a plague, slaughtering any and all demons they came across.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

As a demon, I would like to hold hatred in my heart for them. To know that my kin, my friends and family, were killed by such creatures… it should infuriate me. But it does not. Because how many more humans have demons killed. For how long did we oppress that weak race, only to now hold a deep hatred for them? If we did not hate them in the beginning, why did we fight them then?

“... I see. Then let me ask you, as The Demon Who Overrules All, why do you plague humans so?” The Hero’s beautiful voice range into my ears once again. I suppose I should have been shocked, as few demons know my true name and none currently live to spread it.

“I believe that this whole war is pointless. That Humans and Demons have caused far too much blood to be shed as is. However, because this much blood has been shed I must see this through to the end. As the last remaining Demon, it is my duty.” I shrunk down from my Demon form and entered my Demi-Human form. Although I was admittedly weaker in this form I was much more versatile. My hand grasped my longsword while my left was used to gather magic power.

“Enough talk, Hero. Only one of us will survive this, while the other will become nothing more than fertilizer. And after this fight, one of us will have committed Genocide.” I couldn’t tell, but I swear I saw a tear roll down The Hero’s cheek. Her grip on her weapons tightened as she took a battle stance.

“I see…. I am glad, knowing I am not the only one who holds such crazy views.”

Cliffhanger for the first chapter? What a douche.

Author here, just wanted to throw in a few words. I plan on continuing this story for a while. To be brutally honest, I have no idea where this story will go. I literally was (night dreaming?) when this came up as a sudden flash of inspiration. I know that I will continue the story, but as to how far it will go… only time will tell!
