Chapter 39

(General P.O.V)

Copper and Dawson escorted a pissed off Fury towards Coulson and Ash. Both agents had their hands close to their hips just in case they needed to quickly reach for their weapons.

"Coulson, what is going on?"

Having a tall black man bear down on you with a scowl on his face would be enough to bow anyone. Coulson took it in stride, lowering his hand from where he had been communicating with the authorities.

"Change of plans, director. I have reason to believe that you might be in danger."

He answered, again motioning for Cooper and Dawson to keep a vigilant eye in their surroundings. Luckily, they were out of public sight, having made it to an alley by following Coulson's direction. Fury didn't like this, they were still too exposed.

"Danger?" Fury said, not like a man scared for his life.

"Nothing new. What made you decide we needed to ditch our ride?"

"Ultron."

Ash immediately spoke up.

Fury's eyes turned to him.

"And you must be Mr.Phelps."

Ash nodded.

"I am. Ultron is after your life. You must be wondering how I know this," he shook his head.

"But we do not have time to waste on explanations. We have to get you out of here."

Fury turned to Coulson.

"I've instructed the pilots to do a few Flybys and hopefully divert attention from us. If Ultron attacks, a few F-16s from the South African Air force will be sufficient back up for the Quinjet. Meanwhile, I have organized alternative means of evacuation. We have a safe house a few miles off Johannesburg..."

"That won't be necessary. I have a different plan."

Ash told them. Fury narrowed his eyes as the teen stepped away from the group, while looking at the sky.

"Heimdall, I have no authority to ask you for this but I need your help. We need you to pull us out of here. In exchange, I have information regarding Ragnarok that I am sure your king would like to hear."

Fury and the rest were speechless.

"Ain't no way that that's going to..."

A sudden beam of rainbow fell upon them and immediately portaled them out.

"Motherfucker!"

Fury cursed out with a little bit of frustration.

Dawson, Cooper and Coulson had their guns out the minute the light from the Bifrost died out.

"You've gotta be kidding me..."

Cooper stated in awe, the gun in his hands lowered slightly.

"My god."

Dawson followed up.

"Focus you two. We're not on earth anymore."

Coulson lightly chided while also looking around.

Everything around them was golden and splendid. The lighting bounced off the walls and added a layer of divinity to everything it touched.

"Thank you, Heimdall."

Ash said, bowing slightly. Fury and the rest looked towards the teen and who he was addressing.

Instantly their guns were up again and pointed at the tall black man with white eyes dressed in impressive armor. His gaze made them feel exposed. As if they couldn't hide anything from him. Heimdall watched them with white unblinking eyes. He nodded slightly to Fury.

"Lower your weapons."

The Director of Shield gave the command.

"We are not enemies."

He stated, seeming to try and communicate that fact to the Asgardian gatekeeper.

Heimdall on his part turned to Ash in quiet stoicism.

"The All-father agrees to your proposal Midgardian. Once your latest crisis is over, I shall ask you to present yourself before the God-king."

Ash nodded in confirmation,

"Of course."

He assured, then turned to the others.

"Asgard is just a pit stop. Where are we going Fury?"

The director of Shield was not quick to answer. Instead he focused most of his attention on Heimdall.

"So this is Asgard. And I'm supposed to believe that you can see everything going down on Earth? We have a name for someone like that. And it is not flattering."

Ash sighed. He should have known that this would happen.

"What I carry out is a duty. A duty to protect Midgard and the rest of the 9 realms. We are allies Nicholas Fury."

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

Heimdall said.

"That remains to be..."

"We should really get going."

Ash interrupted him.

"Oh crap. Did he really cut off the Director?"

Dawson whispered to Cooper.

The one eyed man blinked and narrowed his eye at Ash. Ash did not cower.

"Is your pride really that important right now? Ultron tried to kill you. Who knows his next target. Could be the president."

At that, the tension slowly bled out.

"We need to get back to Earth before it's too late. So tell him Fury. Tell him where he should teleport us to."

Fury was a man made of paranoia. And that paranoia had saved his life and the world countless times before. He could instantly spot when something was off. Despite this while Ultron affair being something Ash had claimed without evidence, Fury was wary not to listen to him and through his own arrogance doom the world. So he swallowed his pride.

"The Helicarrier. From there we can coordinate with the Avengers and put down this...Ultron for good."

He replied.

Heimdall gripped the sword stabbed into the floor and turned it with an audible clang! Light begun to cover Ash and the rest.

"Thank you Heimdall, see you whenever."

The chamber where they had been, disappeared in a rush of color and light and when the light had died out, Ash and the rest found themselves on top of a craft of some kind. Shield agents aimed their guns at the Four of them.

"Stand down."

Fury stated, walking towards his second in command, Maria Hill who was flanked by a team of agents. She stopped and did a salute.

"Director, our comms couldn't reach you. Your ship went down a few miles off the coast of Panama. How are you alive Sir?"

Fury sighed at the news. That meant that the pilots had most likely been killed.

"Like always Hill. Luck. A lot of luck."

He responded, beginning to walk away from the main deck and into the control hub of the huge flying structure.

"Glad you're back then, sir. A lot has happened, the Avengers are already gone. They are trying to stop Ultron in his Sokovian base. Multiple high profile individuals also faced assassination attempts. Out of the 21 politicians, army generals and world leaders, 4 of them died."

Fury paused in place, narrowing his eyes.

"He was right."

He muttered in a low tone. That was not good news.

"Any update from Banner or Stark? This is their mess after all."

Hill showed him the pad.

"They managed to put together a code that scrambled Ultron's algorithm that he was using to calculate those targets who had a huge impact on the world."

"Wait, so Stark managed to cheat the Internet?"

"An oversimplification but yes."

Hill answered, making Fury shake his head.

"It's always something with those two. Alright divert the course of the Helicarrier, I want us in Sokovia by the time it takes for me to take a shit."

"Fury? Director..." A few agents blocked his way.

"I need to talk to him." Ash told them in irritation.

"Fury!"

Ash called out to the spy in a louder volume.

"Coulson, get Mr. Phelps to the interrogation room. He and I have a lot to talk about."

The spy threw over his shoulder.

Ash could not believe it.

"Are you fucking kidding me?"

He demanded, anger rolling off him. Fury stopped. Silence descended on the deck of the Helicarrier.

"Say what?"

The super sky asked.

"Do you have any idea who you're talking to and where you're currently standing?"

Ash's body bulked up, the T shirt he wore which was nothing but dregs now was torn up even more.

"No, how dare you, Fury."

He spat out.

"I save you and your men's lives and you treat me as if I'm your prisoner. Not to mention the timing itself! No, fuck this! I'm outta here! Heimdall?"

"No! don't let him..."

Fury was saying but his words were cut off when the light from the bifrost descended on Ash and took him away.

"Damn."

Fury cursed out.

"I want all satellites to be on the lookout for where Mr.Phelps will turn up next."

"But sir, is that really necessary with the ongoing threat from Ultron?"

Coulson asked, strapping his handgun back onto his hip.

"For global security? Yes." Fury was quick to answer, continuing his strides.

"Mr. Phelps carries with him the possibility of another alien attack. His ability to seemingly disappear from not only our radar but also Stark's means he must be somewhere else, somewhere not on earth. I will not allow another New York incident just because a killer robot with daddy issues is throwing a tantrum. There is always the next mission agent. The next threat. Now please, can someone get me a goddamn coffee?"

(Elsewhere)

"Thank you Heimdall. I owe you."

Ash said the second he was back on Asgard.

"Any friend of Thor's is more than welcome on Asgard."

Ash smiled at the response.

"I highly doubt that but thanks."

"Where to next?"

Heimdall questioned.

Ash stretched out his muscles while mentally preparing himself. Before being pulled out of the Helicarrier, Hill had stated that the avengers were in Sokovia. Ash knew he would be going to a battlefield. Looking down at himself, the clothes he wore had turned to dregs. There wasn't time to go back on Earth and find something to wear either.

Then he got an idea.

"Hey Heimdall I don't suppose you have a spare change of clothes?"

(Sokovia)

"Keep an eye out for him."

Fury gave Hill the order as the Helicarrier appeared from the side of the floating piece of Sokovian earth.

"My god."

An agent commented, pulling up multiple feeds that showed the distress caused by the Ultron Units in the city.

"Patch me in."

Fury ordered.

"Cap, I'm sending in life boats, coordinate with the rest of your schoolclub and get everyone out."

A smile appeared on Captain America's face as he used his shield to block a repulser beam.

"Fury, you son of a bitch."

"Calvary's finally here. What was it that slowed your march, traffic?"

Stark asked through the communications line.

"Something like that. I'm not the only one around either."

Fury replied as smaller crafts left the Helicarrier's docks.

"Okaaaay... cryptic..."

Stark stated.

"I thought you loved surprises, Tony."

War Machine's voice came in through the comms.

The fight went on for a few minutes as they tried their best evacuate everyone. Scarlet Witch's powers came in handy as she left mental suggestions on people to stop panic and quicken the evacuation process. In the end, they all stood together, ready to fight Ultron with everything they had.

The Avengers, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were all gathered around the machine. A key that Ultron could use to drop the already very high section of the capital of Sokovia down on the planet, obliterating everything.

"This is not what I was thinking when I said we should do more group activities."

Black Widow commented as they covered each other from all sides. Evacuation had gone on splendidly, with the perimeter having been manned by Cap and the others up until almost everyone had escaped.

But now, it was time to protect the key and make sure Ultron did not access and drop the whole chunk down on the planet.

"Is that the best you got!?"

Thor yelled out after destroying an Ultron unit. Ultron floated calmly in place as hundreds upon hundreds of Ultron Units came out of nowhere, jumping over cars and debris to surround the Avengers.

"You had to ask."

Steve told the Asgardian who managed to look sheepish.

"This is exactly what I wanted." Ultron spoke up.

"All of you, against all of me."

The Avengers readied themselves.

"If we make it out of this alive, I am finally going to take that trip down to Fiji."

Steve said.

Before Ultron gave the go ahead, in between the Avengers and his units, the light of the bifrost slammed onto the ground, shaking things and producing a wave of dust.

"Ah...were you expecting company?"

Iron man asked a surprised Thor.

"Not really."

The god of Thunder answered similarly perturbed.

"Sorry guys, am I too late to the party?"

Ash asked, just as the light from the Bifrost died away.

"It's the kid. Am I seeing this right? Friday, can you confirm if I'm..."

"Hallucinating? No sir. All your vitals are working at maximum capacity with the exception of your liver."

"Give it up Friday. You and Pepper are fighting a losing battle."

Ash was dressed in Asgardian light armor, which consisted of only an oversized chest piece, revealing his slightly muscular arms, gray generic pants (having not found anything else suitable) and black heavy boots.

"So I'm guessing this is the surprise, Fury was talking about."

Captain America stated.
