-----------------------------------

Out there, in the vast nothingness of space are millions of planets with who knows how many species and so many advanced cultures. Yet, there are some planets that are just not that into culture. There are some planets that just want everything to burn, just so they get a little bit better.

Last of all you have planets like "earth", a planet so senile it has named it's own planet after the soil they walk on.

So on a planet with a complete disregard for culture and other life, the people that inhabit this place must be the worst of all.

You have your religious leaders, corporate leaders, your dictators, your politicians and your lawyers.

And guess what? This story is about the worst of them all, an environmental lawyer named Steve!

--------------------------------------------

Somewhere on planet earth a strange creature rose from its slumber. It so happened to be that this creature was human and male. This creature was Steve! Steve was a very content with life, he was in his twenties and lived in a small apartment. His whole life he saw nature getting destroyed and saw the earth fall to the state it's currently in. With the state it's currently in, I mean 90% of all ground has been fully build up. There are even floating cities in the ocean since there was no more space to build on the continents. So he took it as his life mission to preserve the nature we still got. So Steve became an environmental lawyer and fought everyone who tried to harm the little bit of nature that was left. The little bit of environment that was left was fiercely protected by the government, and everyone who had the guts to touch it was prosecuted like no tomorrow.

So Steve was a creature of habit, he woke up, went to toilet, got into the shower, prepared some random breakfast that he had in the fridge and read the paper. So why would this day be any different then any other day? So Steve woke up, went to the toilet, then continued on to step into the shower and sang a happy song. He was in such a good mood that he even did a little dance while preparing his breakfast. When his breakfast was ready he sat down at the table and took a look at the front page of the daily paper.

The Same news as usual. People were getting killed over nothing, someone had a different religion or other political thoughts then someone else.

But this mattered little to Steve, Steve only cared about the little green zone that was left. Humanity was doomed to begin with, maybe he could save the nature instead. His job was to oversee the companies surrounding the green zone that they upheld their part of the agreement to not interfere with the nature inside of it.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

When Steve came to work, all hell broke loose. A company that surrounded the green zone had set fire to a piece of the zone. And this fire had spread towards other regions of the green zone, initial reports say that 20% would be lost with the dry weather they were having. And to top it all off, the company claimed it was an accident. I mean come on you don't accidently throw napalm over a big buffer between the green zone and the rest of the garbage that called itself the modern world.

This would seem to be a huge court case since it was one of the biggest company that resided near the green zone. They had a record of doing very nasty and shady things to be able to expand their company. Steve and the small law firm he worked for got down to business real quick and if everything would go Steve's way the board of the company would be in jail the next week for corrupting the green zone. They would see to it that their business would be ruined and that all the space they occupied could be reformed into green lands.

After nearly all the preparations were complete they handed their case to the judge overseeing the green zone. When Steve presented the file to the judge, a small grin appeared on the judge his face. "This was nothing more then an accident Steve, I don't see why we should prosecute this." Steve did not know what to say or how to act. This bastard who was supposed to be the protector of the green zone was dismissing his case overflowing with evidence?"You mean to say that this file full of evidence is not even enough to start a case against them?" Steve asked with his fist clenched. The judge looked at Steve and said: "I just told you it was an accident, now if you don't let this go I will have to take measures against your licence to practice law."

Steve left the court house defeated until he saw the new car of the judge. "This bastard does not even care to hide the fact he was bought by the company?" Steve said out loud. A few people turned their heads to see what the commotion was all about but soon looked the other way again. Something snapped inside Steve his head and he walked back in to the court house. He entered the judge his chamber and picked the small gavel from the judge his office and looked at the flustered judge sitting on his comfortable new chair. Steve just started swinging, and swinging, and swinging. By the time Steve was done with the judge, there was not much left of his face to recognize him. Steve did not know what to do and simply went home, he got undressed, took a shower and fell face down onto his bed.

The next morning Steve woke up, but not in his bed, but on some black floor? And he was outside?
